    First time building a shed. I followed your instructions. Took me about 5 hours to build the floor. Mainly because I was off square by 2 inches. Took me a while, I had to drill the frame to the 4x4 on one side and kick the bottom until my numbers were at 153 inch on each corner. After squaring the frame it was down hill and easy. Walls coming up soon. I watch your videos several times before starting this project. Thank you.

    I’ve been a welder, grinder, and fabricator for 25 years building custom stainless pressure vessels. I had hell trying to get my foundation level because my backyard has an uneven 15 degree slope. I got my foundation level and the subfloor turned out great. I did have to use a few shingles to slightly shim under the 4X4’s to blocks for perfect level. My tank building skills is what helped me get through this 1st part of my 8X10 shed project. I appreciate your help by making these videos. The walls and roof should go pretty smoothly. Thanks.

    I built a storage shed following your tutorial 18 months ago with painted OSB walls. I'm in Scotland where our climate can be really wet and my shed is as good as the day I built it. Say "No" to the nay-sayers about using painted OSB... it's as good as timber. Great tutorial by the way, many thanks.

    I live in Europe and the dimensions, etc. were not usable as wood we have here is cut differently, but everything was explained so well I was able to "reverse engineer" the principles and designed myself a perfect shed. I want to thank you for making this video series. I've watched tons of other "how to" videos on building, and none of them really helped me. You made these videos easy to follow, and did an amazing job of explaining things that more experienced folks probably think are obvious. Even the little tips and hacks made a world of difference! I've been trying to start my journey into falconry for 10 years, and building my mews has been the big sticking point. Thanks to you, I'm almost finished building the perfect building. THANK YOU!!!!

    I’ve watched this series of videos over and over. I’m building a storage shed in my backyard and following your instructions and advice. I’ve made some mistakes and I’m constantly rewinding to make sure I’m doing things right. I only have a few hours after work each day to build so it’s a slow process but it’s fun and it’s been an adventure. I just wanted to say I appreciate you taking the time to do these videos. I’m currently at the stage of making the door. I’ve taken some photos and I’ll post them when I get done. Thanks again!

And yeah, you learn lots along the way so it's a win all around, I'm glad you're taking something from it. Cool, I can't wait to see it, good luck on the rest!

    Mice love this design. Nice warm place underneath. :D
    I do love it. It's even easier than my last free standing shed. Another option (which I did on my last free standing deck for my gazebo), is to dig a good sized hole (1.5 to 2' should do it) in the middle of the joists (right before laying the floor) and throw a sawed off post in there with some concrete. Throw a bunch of screws in it to attach it to your joists. That shed won't move in anything short of tornado directly hitting it.
    For an all wood shed.. probably not needed, but works great for a free standing deck or if you plan to put a big box 'plastic' shed on the base.

    Thanks to your videos I just realized what confused me for such a long time even though I am a woodworker. There is a minor difference in describing spacing which makes a big change on the outcome. *CENTER ON 16 is not the same as CENTER EVERY 16*, when I write it down it's clear as day and yet somehow it took such a long time for it to sink. Center on 16 is making sure the center is on an EXACT measurement (16, 32, 48..) and center every 16 (or any other number) is the spacing between centers. I feel dumb and enlightened at the same time, thank you.

      @@JessedoesDIY it made me rethink my approach. I was planning to go with deck blocks and only 2x4's, but I already see a problem with it (8x8 foundation for a 7x7 shed) - lack of joists. Ground has a slope to it so most likely, going with 4x4s as a flat base on deck blocks and then building the frame on top of this is the way to go.

    Best explanation video out there, I am going to follow it. Simple question, I'm a rookie, so bear with me ! When you are measuring your joist frame for square (diagonals), I am unclear how to adjust it for square if you have already nailed or screwed it together, making it a fixed structure ? (I have never done this so I may be missing a simple concept). Thanks very much !

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I'm glad I could help! So once it is all assembled and just framed, without sheeting on it especially, it can still rack from side to side a couple inches. So even though it is not coming apart, it can still move around a bit. Hope that helps, if you have any more questions just ask! Thanks for watching

    • @cbi333
      @cbi333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is there any tolerance in the diagonal measurement? I am 1/4” out by on my 7x6”” shed frame 😀

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually yeah, that is ok. This shed is considered rough carpentry and the rule of thumb is something can be actually 1/4" out. You can make that up in other areas with a little pull here or a push there, maybe even tweaking a cut, so by the time it is standing and finished you'd never know anyways.

    Man... you make it look so easy. I can build cabinets and furniture but rough carpentery/construction intimidates me for some reason!
    I am curious if you're going to release basic plans and numbers for this building because a 12x8 shed is what I'm shooting for however the vertical dimensions is exactly what I want.

    • @JessedoesDIY
      @JessedoesDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol thanks. But don't let it intimidate you. I love doing finer things myself, but sometimes I just have to do a rough build because it's fun. Once you get a few basic rules into your head for it, you can almost shut half your brain power down, go head down and just hammer it out. And at the end of it you have a big structure which feels really satisfying when you stand back and take it all in.
      I have been adding the materials for each video down in the descriptions and I would love to release a plan for it, but I'm still learning how to do all that stuff and I'm not sure when I could. But as soon as I can you can bet I'll be adding them later. For now you can take what I did, and because it's still exactly 2 feet wider than mine, the math is super easy. If you need a reference just stretch a tape measure out and count all your 16" marks up to 12'. That tells you how many floor, wall and roof studs you'll need. The design of this shed is very scaleable in that regard. Even your OSB will line up perfectly, I was cutting off 2' from mine because I needed 10', which is 2.5 sheets. You can literally get away with 3 sheets front, back and roof without cutting. Easy peasy.
      Good luck, let me know how it goes. Any questions feel free to email me

    What people FAIL to realize is, Building a Shed Cost ABOUT Half Or Less than Buying One... EXAMPLE ONLY! Buy a 8x10 Shed for $5,000 and by the time you pay it off, you spent About $10,000.. Or Do like He did here and What I did, I BUILT a 10x10 For Under $1,000.

    GREAT tutorial here and I much appreciate the attention to detail with screw sizes, lining this up to that, etc. SUPER helpful.
    Helpful note for anyone who's thinking about getting into this. DO NOT underestimate the amount of work necessary to level uneven ground. My yard is all sorts of fucked up and I spent a good 8-10 hours getting the concrete blocks leveled and lined up correctly while keeping the whole thing square. I am a complete novice, so you might do better.. but just be aware.

      Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it useful, I tried to be as clear and concise on everything I knew I'd get questions on if I didn't lol. That's a good point on the ground leveling. I live in the central prairies in Canada so it's super flat here, I dint have to worry about that too much but I should have at least commented on it because it's the base for the whole shed. Thanks for sharing, I hope to see your project when you're done!

      @@JessedoesDIY ,I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't know this but for giggles I will tell you.
      It was the toenail trick , where you spin it a couple of times before angling the screw. It's not often you need to screw like this unless you do a lot of shop work like building furniture and cabinets etc.

    • @amomentwithanimals7429
      @amomentwithanimals7429 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even when framing walls ,I build the wall on the ground and then stand it up so there isn't any need of toenailing studs. Like I said I don't have to do it often but when I do the drill has skipped and got my hand a couple times , with your trick I'll never have to worry about that again.
