    Really wanted to like this. My studio is a very well soundproofed room in my house, but not perfect.
    If I want to do a banging mix at one in the morning, my wife certainly has something to say about it! So I wanted this to work! For older songs it does work very well actually, but modern mixes with ultrawide stereo images, lots of reverb and delays and other modern Fx just don’t. An example is Get Lucky by Daft Punk. In the original mix you can clearly hear claps in the right head phone. They come from beside your right ear, like they are panned 100%. When you use this plug-in, the claps should move to a position to the right but in front of you. However they don’t. They remain on your right shoulder, even though the vocals, bass, drums and other instrumentation moves to a point in space in front of you where monitors would be located. I tested over 100 tracks today, a mixture of recordings from different decades, and I found tracks like Long Train Runnin’ by the Doobie Brothers and Passenger Let Her Go worked well, but Daft Punk Get Lucky and Rihanna Please Don’t Stop the Music didn’t. So clearly not all modern tracks are affected, stuff by passenger for example whilst modern, is recorded in a less processed way more reminiscent of earlier decades. So perhaps it would be better to say electronic music with lots of Fx doesn’t work as well as stuff with more acoustic instruments and a simpler Fx implementation. It’s a great idea in principle, but it still needs some work.

    I can also confirm that this plugin is fun as hell to use while tracking vocals! Most vocalists would agree that the isolation of singing with headphone/inears not only gives you a weird lonely isolated feeling, but also messes with your pitching. With this plugin on, I'm not having to constantly take my headphones off to make sure I'm singing out of tune haha. Feels great to crank the headphones up and really go for it.
    Highly recommend it!

I can't wait to try this plug-in, especially the boom box part because boom boxes always seem to reveal muddiness and brittle high frequencies in my experience. Hi there, thank you for reaching out.
      CLA Nx and Nx recreate the spatial acoustic response of speakers in a room over any headphones. This can benefit you by helping your mixes translate better to speakers, whether or not you also use EQ correction.
      You can use CLA Nx or Nx to add spatial acoustic response to your headphones, and add EQ correction on top (whether using this plugin, or other software).
      That being said, in order to benefit from these plugins’ spatial effects, EQ correction is not necessary.

    • @JTguitarlessons
      @JTguitarlessons 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's an impulse response. You notice how your mixes don't translate right if you mix on headphones rather than using your monitors? This offers a solution to that issue. It works to make your headphones much more like a monitor mix or a room sound. I used the NX Ocean Way plugin, and it worked wonders.

    • @sm5574
      @sm5574 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In addition to changing the frequency response, it adds crosstalk between the speakers. Headphones exaggerate stereo separation; these plugins make it sound much more like you're listening through speakers in a room (so, for example, 50% panning sounds like 50% instead of 90%). It's impossible to simulate that exactly, but these plugins are much closer that just using headphones straight up.

    • @hummarstraful
      @hummarstraful 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. I bought the Ocean Way plugin as soon as it came out. Used it a few times. It didn't help at all. But, If you're up late and you gotta mix and not disturb others it's better then just using your headphones. The plugins are kinda fun, too, with the different monitors you can select and hearing the sound change as you turn your head (head tracking.) But, you got to use real monitors in the end.
