I'm an in the box home hobbyist who has taken on the role of mixing my band's work for the past 10 years. I've struggled for years to get vocals and bass guitar to sit properly, to avoid mud, to get the kick and snare to cut and have pop, to have the guitars cut but not drown out the vocals... I've watched untold videos, tried numerous methods, subscribed to the Slate Digital plugin suite (which I love) but nothing has changed my mixes more than the CLA Plugins (Mixdown, Bass, Vocal, Drums, Guitar, Effects), I got them on Wave's year end sale all at once and for the first time ever using mostly these plug ins I think I've finally gotten some good mix results with depth, width and clarity. These have made mixing fun again... They aren't the silver bullet, but they get you 85-90% the way there. Thanks guys.
What he has is the sheer confidence that many lack. Other's are too technical and scared to make weird changes to the mix. But he always enjoys it his way and makes it great from his experience of decades.
I bought this plugin on Waves and I use it on my mixdown bus right after the abbey road saturator and my mixes sound like a solid master afterwards. I love it!
Watching these videos for CLA alone is totaly worth it. its so fun to watch / listen this guy. Of course he is selling a product but hes pure at heart. I like the plugin too. I never considered cheating like this on my masterbus but yes i did, not to make my mix sound good , but to make a good sounding mix faster, and speed was important on that particular project. The album ended up being cut on vinyl too. great times.

Yeah I can barely hear the changes because 1) he's talking through much of this, and 2) the song choice isn't ideal for demonstrating this tool. The plugin is on sale for $29 so I guess it's not a huge loss if it doesn't automagically fix a crappy mix. lol
this is not going to fix a shitty mix lol, it's literally just adding his go to mastering options. it might help a bit, i definitely will find this useful for getting quick demos sent out.
how? it's just CLA's settings for the mixdown buss, there's really nothing wrong with it. If you wanna do things manually, keep doing it, if you're just writing songs as a musician and want to send out some good quality demos, use this.

This thing ends up on essentially every one of my client tracks. Sometimes I need a different bus compressor (and setting 2 seems to work more often than 1 for me) but that’s about it. The EQs are broad and applicable to a lot of situations if you just need a general tilt or shift. Also, don’t be afraid to try this thing on a drum or guitar bus…drive the hell out of it and see what happens. It’s transparent enough that you can get away with a decent amount before it stops sounding like “attitude” and starts sounding like “what is that?”
Page 4 of CLA Mixdown manual says NOT to use it in the Master fader for us Pro Tools users ONLY... have to create a stereo bus to send to prior to Master fader.
On iPhone 11 speakers the “bypassed” audio is much more pleasant to the ears than the over processed “active” version which sounds good for a few seconds then becomes fatiguing.
Tried it out on a mix: The "Glue"-Fader did exactly that: Glues all together nicely without adding harsh compression or pumping - even on a little setting. The Treble-Fader has a nice frequency curve to add that extra high top end to the mix. The Bass- and Distortion-Faders where "meh" and not so useful on my mix. It added too much "ooomph" on the low end and the distortion made the mix very 2-D very quickly and colored too strongly even with the faders on -10 and just the channel engadet. It really depends on your mix.
Love this CLA plugin it is very nice👍👍👍👍👍 I don't buy Uad anymore although I own a uad apollo quad but the prices are just too high and at waves I get a solid quality that some what would be nice if I could have two licenses for studio and for the laptop but otherwise I am in love with waves

Does anyone feel like me it's seem to narrow the mix depth and space? I feel this kill the 3D and sensation of layers depths. Everything come back in front, I can ear reverbs but feels like the space/room effect is collapsing...
For every ten simple mix downs You do find one that does work. But reviews and TH-cam effects suck at reviews. Everything is good lol. I do like SSL copies I like! Some EQ? Ugh? But Wavs has a CLA compressor I love (think it's CLA) I just know the location by heart, so forget name. Instead of that color of low end. It seems to color the top, and still compresses the low of course (not multi) but just eases harsh highs without loosing them. I want to say CLA, but that one has a bass color to it. Not many have good thigh additive color, this one does. Yea, me and names?
Love the plugin (and all CLA plugins actually) - but can anyone explain why it's NOT a problem that the red clip light is showing in the video? It obviously isn't a problem or Chris would change things around. But the manual states: 'Use the digital full-scale meter to ensure that there are no digital clips. This is indicated by the red Clip Indicators above the meters'. Does that refer to something else??
He says +3 because that's what he's doing on the analog console. Don't let red lights even in the digital domain dictate shit to you. Can load busses etc. I keep the master under is all that matters and achieve loading on Summing Mixer to get that console drive while maintaining out of the red back into digital.
If you watch the peak meters closely, you can see that most of the time they're not clipping. He keeps them around -1 or -2 (which is still fairly hot). They clip when he flips between processors, like turning off the compression while the makeup gain is still boosted. It's interesting that when he turns on the drive, it seems to help keep the levels in check... could be like tape saturation, rounding off stray transient peaks. He just never clears the clip lights.
That red light just indicates that at some point since they were last reset (by clicking them) the audio clipped. But as he's demonstrating the plugin, you can see there's no clipping going on. He just didn't bother to reset the clipping meters, which can get tiresome, sometimes. He (and we) can see that the meters are far from clipping.
I have a question concerning most plugins...so long as you masters don't make me sound like the fool...hey, everyone was a newbie once, right?...anyway; I've seen very few plugins which have an output which auto-adjusts to match the original input level. No matter what you do inside the plugin itself, the output retains the input signal level. Perhaps this feature could have an in/out switch for those who don't wish to use it, It is essential to match output levels to input levels, is it not? If so, then why have I not seen this on most if not all plugins? Wouldn't it take the guesswork out of one very important event in the chain? Just my two synths... I'd love to read some
Not really, Most of the time when you eq the MASTER, you play with the highs and lows .. no one really mess with the mids, or you will start to change the color of the song/track.
I like better his CLA classic compressor series than his all in one "guitars", "drums"...I mean, they are cool, but they feel a bit like cheating. I feel better with myself using the SSL, compressors, and learn how to really work with then. But just seeing the man at work is awesome, especially on a real console. Total master.

Used his old batch of signature plugins and even if this one is half good of that its worth the price
The biggest problem with his plugins is they make everything sound the damn same, it's super clear it's his sound, especially the drum plug in

Missing Mid . I would try it if it has Mid Cause Whenever you have Bass & Treble You Need Mid for EQ Frequency . Upgrade to fill in the EQ Mid .
