- During my journey in South Korea, I had the pleasure of visiting Lee Nam-yul, the owner of Seongu Barbershop, one of the oldest and most esteemed barbershops in the country. Located at 4-1 Hyochangwon-ro 97-gil, Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Seongu Barbershop is a renowned establishment known for its exceptional service and commitment to the art of barbering.
As I stepped into the barbershop, I was greeted by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The vintage decor, combined with the skillful barbers and the scent of shaving cream, created an ambiance reminiscent of a bygone era. It was evident that Seongu Barbershop had preserved the traditional barbering techniques and values that have made it a cherished institution.
Lee Nam-yul, with his expertise and experience, provided me with a relaxing ASMR shave, wash, and style. The precision and care with which he handled the straight razor and lathered the shaving cream onto my face were truly remarkable. The soothing sound of the razor gliding across my skin, combined with the gentle strokes and pressure, created a sense of tranquility and relaxation.
After the shave, Lee Nam-yul proceeded to give me a refreshing hair wash, massaging my scalp with expert hands. The warm water, combined with the invigorating shampoo, revitalized my senses and left me feeling rejuvenated. The rhythmic movements and the therapeutic touch of the barber's hands provided a truly calming experience.

I love the obsession with details and the perfection that this master of hairdressing has. In several sections of the video, he discovers some irregularity in Nomad Barber's hair and interrupts what he was going to do to correct it with the scissors.
Glad Mr. Lee kept breathing. His brilliant hair cutting is matched by this equally brilliant shave. A real treasure.

Really? Is that just with straight razors? Been shaving against the grain for 25 years with no issues. I have a course beard and I don't get a clean shave if I go with the grain.

He was also featured in Haircut Harry but back then he had a much more rundown shop. Good to see the business kept booming and he was able to do some renovations. 😊❤
Someone said in one video that his old shop got really damaged in a storm. And as it is a place of historic value the city paid for renovation.
The old shop was collapsing. Im not sure if they rebuilt it or reinforced it and then used cladding.
He really does deliver an amazing quality shave, his many years as a barber definitely shows in his skills, I hope one day I get the chance to visit him.

Love the old school.. I remember going to an elderly “old school “ beautician for a haircut .. quite different than the barber shop .. no shave but she did razor cuts and shampooed me .. but no cans lol ! Used the hose sprayer on my head to wet and rinse ..

Haircut harry made his life better. Full new. But still loves the old vibes
My grandmother would shampoo our hair like this when my brother and I were young boys. Very firm lots of lather. -but no cans . she hooked up that hose sprayer used on the dog to the kitchen sink to wet and rinse us .. of course we didn’t exactly enjoy getting shampooed either .. as long as we stood still with our head down in the sink and didn’t give grandma a hard time about it we weren’t subjected to hard manual labor in the yard .
