    I know it might come off as ignorant or lazy, but as an european, I'd love metric system "translation" from imperial system to pop up somewhere on the screen, whenever any information about temperature, height etc is said. It's a minor nuance, but it would help a lot, since I'm not fluent in feet, inches and Fahrenheit degrees and cannot do the calculations in my head on the fly. Still, a great video - and fingers crossed for the Webb Awards, Summer!

    • @summerrayneoakes
      @summerrayneoakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Thanks for the suggestion. In my Houseplant Care spreadsheets, I convert the F to C. But here, I'm usually rushing to the finish line for the edits, but would be a nice add on. I'll put it on my wish list as the channel grows. And thanks for the good will on the Webby Awards. I hope we win too. It'll be a big statement to show that botanical content is a priority / interest for people.

      i think everyone should chill out with the instagram hype. went to one of those fancy hipster plant pop ups and bought two overpriced calethea varieties cause they looked so pretty but obviously had zero connection to the plants, one got spider mites fast and died within weeks & i didn't even care that much. the plants i really love are the ones i got from cuttings from friends or bought when they where tiny and watched grow over the years. most of them really common plants but they give me fond memories & make me care for them much more. people should see plants more like living beings one can connect with, not just a trendy accessiore to brag with.

    if I may say something about spider mites, they proliferate very well in warm and dry conditions which are usually and easily found in an apartment during the autumn-winter time, when people turn on the heating and the air dries out...so I would suggest to bring your plants under a shower and do the rain effect on both sides of the leaves to clean the most of them. In addiction you can wrap each leaf in a plastic bag for a couple of days maybe three. Spiders hates water and high humidity conditions...so in this way you'll get them off/dead without using any chemical. Hope that helps...

    @ 14:00 -- *McColley's Finale* -- I got one from Burpee's two years ago. Their photo shows coloration quite like the plants displayed here, and the plants I got were similar, just kind of speckled. But within a few months their color was changing and soon became a deep burgundy all over. My lighting is from a window facing North-East, getting a little sun just before sunset in the summer.
    Not a problem, I still love them. Just wondering what others may have experienced.

    Philodendron birkin are one of those "meh" plants for me. You can get it for £12-15 for a 6-inch pot from a garden centre but I've found them going for £30-40++ on ebay for the same size and sometimes for just a cutting which is ridiculous. I love plants and understand the work that goes into growing them but the prices some people charge is just unjustifiable.

      Supply and demand..the only reason they can charge that much is because someone is willing to pay it. I don't get it either

      In Missouri, USA, I have not seen them for less than $60. I think Americans are equating the name with the expensive purses that rappers sing about and it is making us feel like they are a bougie urban plant. I'm waiting for the hype to go down and the price as well.

      it's being sold for 6.99-14-99 € here in Germany, lately. haha
      You're right though, some prices are just ridiculous but there will always be someone who will buy it.

      Lilian Richard Agreed - I’m disgusted by orchid species prices in the UK. 2 or 3 sellers in particular are shocking, selling some old back bulbs or 2 cane divisions as flowering size with a price tag to match. If I as as unscrupulous I’d make a fortune!
