    The rocket of legend was one ROCKET,ONE thrust vector on top of the car. But MB has a way of deviating the myths reproduction to whatever is convenient. Gonna reproduce an effect get as close as you can to the original conditions .The Bullet throwing a cowboy backwards was another fuck up . Of course Buster is just going to STAND there, a human being would be probably jumping out of the way and muscular reflex will cause the backward or sideway movement. For GENIUSES they can be quite stupid.

  • @miawick1
    @miawick1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    -->allow them to use an actual JATO, the insurance said it is too dangerous etc.etc.etc.).
    Now they finally have the chance, to give the most legendary, and most important myth in the history of the show, the revisit it deserves, for the 10th anniversary !
    If you would know the myth and the show as much as I do you would know it has to be a 2 door Chevy for quite a few reasons (like shape of a 2 door vs shape of a 4 door etc.) but most importantly : it was a 2 door Chevy in the original myth.

  • @EricJaakkola
    @EricJaakkola 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That ramp sucked, it was just a wedge. No transition, no planning for angular momentum from hitting such a crappy ramp. Why do they waste so much money without doing at least one of the attempts right? Center of thrust was way higher than CG. What a waste.

  • @DancingSpiderman
    @DancingSpiderman 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK, One answer: Proper shielding to protect 'astronauts' inside the spacecraft from radiation bombardment of high energy Fermions wafting about the Allen Radiation Belts; additional shielding built into the spacecraft to protect 'astronauts' from all other matter particles whizzing through the local space, often said by NASA to travel typically 17K MPH.
    Re-do your math, kiddo.
    I am NOT concerned, on this topic, of what was possible. Only WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. NO MANNED MOON LANDINGS. EVER.

  • @DancingSpiderman
    @DancingSpiderman 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do the science and the math... 'men on the moon' is / was impossible with the technology at hand.

  • @mickavellian
    @mickavellian 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Placing the rockets in a wider circular scheme would've done the trick. When they use that propulsion system that split the car in two, you can see that the propulsion is directed through one vector and still the propulsion is controlled by a rail. If they can make a REAL plane fly with 5 independent rockets in a vertical setting on the plane's tail, then I was wrong.

    3rd times the charm & it went pretty much how I expected, it's ROCKETS, on the back of car, wouldn't matter were the center of gravity is, it's ROCKETS after all, a lot of thrust a lot of power, it's gonna spin out of control no matter what.... this thing is busted big time

  • @mickavellian
    @mickavellian 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    A car with just a powerful engine will take flight a lot easier that this contraption they built cause the propelling power is distributed equally either at the front, rear or 4 wheels. Really , just looking at the concept was the epitome of stupidity . Bet you if the rockets had been set horizontally across the rear fender, they wouldve gotten lift, and as far as FLYING - with no wings , yeah maybe a ballistic missile where the thrust is typically 5.2 (as per Wikipedia) to the weight

  • @mickavellian
    @mickavellian 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love this show but for 10 years i've seen them make ouregeous, logica faulted mistake and makes me wonder that besides being amazing special effects experts, do they stop and think their "plans" with a REAL expert in the matter. The JATO was a cluster fuck for the simple reason that there were 5 rockets with a very small diameter and in a vertical position . The line of propulsion is very narrow to propell the width of the car in a steady straight line. (more)

  • @gerrychan5729
    @gerrychan5729 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This could be done with a car that has an excellent suspension and a very stable car. I've seen this episode and while testing at about ?55mph? the car is everywhere when it should be on a straight line. I don't know if it's better to fix the steering(weld it)so that the car would just go straight and they don't have to worry about steering it. The ramp they used is also very big. Rally cars would jump if there is a big enough bump on the road.I don't know also about adding weight to the front as although it would distribute weight but when your intention is to make it fly high, would it not make sense to lessen the load on the front of the car?

    I agree that personal insults are worthless.
    But the fact remains that Apollo DID have shielding and no hoax-theory promoter I have ever seen has been able to show that it was inadequate.
    Since (1) Apollo was shielded and (2) they only spent about an hour in the Van Allen belts and (3) they didn't even go through the most concentrated part of the belts, what makes you think that the radiation was a problem?
    You're making a definite claim.
    But I still don't see you doing any "math."

    Why when they see that the straight stack of rockets was unstable did repeat it? I would have thought a circular stack of rockets would have worked. And no, the circular stack of rockets is not cheating, The straight stack is biased to fail.

    • @stigmundfreud
      @stigmundfreud 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      its like when they proved the "saving private ryan" sniper shot wasn't possible because their expert couldn't do it on level ground at the same distance.... only another insight into it showed a sniper hitting the mark at twice the distance
      Mythbusters do not dispel myths, like Wikipedia is not the bible of all that is true. Mythbusters proved that a plane could take off on a conveyorbelt when we all know a jet couldn't, they used a propellor

    • @mojaverockets
      @mojaverockets 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      if they were stacked circular or lower horizontally, if one of the motors failed to ignite it would cause the car to veer to one side or another and roll. Vertically stacked, if any of them failed to ignite, the car would still be propelled straight forward. Designing and building the 12 motors to all light and not CATO was a challenge I think we met.

    The reason why it failed is the heavy steel beam in the front.
    The idea was to balance the weight from the rockets, but nobody was thinking about when the rockets is burning it reduces the weight… And then the car becomes too heavy in the front - and it dives on the nose...
    You must have a balance weight which moves backwards at the same rate as the rockets are burning and thus maintains the balance continuously.
    This solution was invented by Fritz von Opel which mounted rockets on Alexander Lippisch’s glider Ente 1928.
    That was the first rocket powered aircraft in the world.
    What Opel could do in 1928... Mythbusters should be able to do today...

  • @ThatBoomerDude
    @ThatBoomerDude 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do the math.
    If you do the REAL math, you can figure out how it WAS possible to go to the moon in 1969.
    If you can't figure out how they did it, then you fail at some part of the math. Because the math is all there for you to do.
    (I'll bet you can't name even one single piece of technology that would be required to go to the moon that they didn't have in 1969. In fact, I know you can't. Want to try?)

    You make a definite statement that the landings absolutely did not happen.
    And you start by challenging people to "do the math."
    And you continue to challenge me to "do the math."
    But I don't see you doing any math. Hell, I don't even see you using the result of any "math" done by anyone else.
    Saying, in effect, nothing more than, "OMG!! Did you know there's RADIATION in SPACE!! OMG! They would have DIIIIED!" really doesn't cut it as far as "math" is concerned.
    So far.. you fail.
