      That’s a great point I remember seeing that in the theater he really didn’t know what was going on and then when he saw princess layers a grown-up it was it was time and he was willing to go to war but boy what a sad life I’ll buy himself and I’ll tell you one thing is mind blowing that universal did not pick the script up. He just did a great movie American graffiti you knew he was talented and then universal had a fantastic smash hit with Jaws and they had a great script. They were working out smoking the bandit so even if the $11.8 million budget and the movies are complete . OK you got tax right off and you tried. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t try. Wasn’t like he was unknown. He had a great movie and like I said you had a big hit on a $10 million investment with jaws I would’ve given it a shot. I just would’ve asked how he’s gonna make it look realistic, but look at this Tunisia look at the mountains. This does look like a whole different planet , really filmed in such a perfect place. I mean I saw this is a year old and I was mystify when I walk out of that theater mystified and still a huge fan of 57.

      It’s not the accent. Ewan does the accent perfectly. It’s the voice. Harrison and Mark Hamill have basically the same accent, but their voices are different.
      Alec has a distinct voice, not accent. And tbh, one could argue that, given the fact Alec is English, he doesn’t have an accent. But I refute that by saying it’s impossible to not have an accent, as there are many many many English accents.
      American accents on the other hand, for some ridiculous reason, Americans think they don’t and or can’t have accents 😂😂
      If you say ‘pawstaw wid tomaydo sauce’ then yes, you clearly have a thick US accent.

      I feel as though George Lucas had a ‘general’ plan for the backstory. He could establish that they have a relationship in the 70’s and then expand upon it in the sequels. Its like how Alec Guinness shows his PTSD to luke when he tells him about his father, none of the actors knew the details but Guinness’ reaction matches the context. He was probably told by lucas to “display pain” or that he had history with Vader. Phenomenal acting, wish i could have met him, unfortunately i am too young. I believe Alec tapped into his memories of WW2 for this acting, which only makes me respect him more. Im sure he has thousands for tales and stories from throughout his life.

    • @figuringitout796
      @figuringitout796 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@lucasrhys0363 well of course he had a history with Vader. He mentions in his story, that Vader was his old apprentice. A pupil. Even if Vader wasn't Luke's father, it would still be painful for Obi-Wan since the story of Vader being his pupil is still consistent and there's a sense of pain and failure in seeing someone you loved, and whom you taught, become a monster. That's always been consistent in Obi-Wan's explanation of Vader I think. It's the one thing that's just so true, Obi-Wan couldn't lie about it even if he wanted to...
      Also, good point on Guinness possibly tapping into WW2 memories... War can turn men into monsters and even the way Vader was described in the 4th book. He was a cynical veteran who served his master, while Obi-Wan was a cynical veteran who saw everything fall apart, people he once loved either die or turn into worse versions of themselves.

    This is the last time you see Luke's macrobinoculars, likely either wrecked like his blaster rifle, or the Tuskens took them. Worked out ok though, because it freed up his belt hook to carry his new lightsaber. :) It, a poncho, & the clothes on his back were all he left Tatooine with, not much to remember the only life he'd ever known.

    Man, when I was much, much younger, the first time I saw A New Hope and Obi-Wan, in this scene and then through out the original Star Wars Trilogy, (I was even really pissed at Vader for killing him), he was just the coolest guide Luke could have and I remember the older people saying, well if such a well established good actor like (Sir) Alec Guinness is in it, it must be a good movie... well that didn't mean anything at the time but now that I've had a chance (or an interest in) seeing some of those old classic movies he was in, I finally understand what a great actor he really was and how much he added to the original trilogy... even though Ewan McGregor, has done a good job and has played Obi-Wan Kenobi far more... to me... I still believe and think of Alec Guinness as the real Obi-Wan... and as Ewan McGregor continues to age, gaining more experience and playing Obi-Wan's part, he'll eventually turn into Alec Guinness... lol

      My thought exactly. George Lucas hadn’t formulated the backstory yet apparently.

    • @KasparL
      @KasparL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think what was portrayed here is that Obi-Wan clearly knows that there's "something" when he looked at R2.
      Apparantely George Lucas didn't plan the backstory of R2 and Obi-Wan, but I guess their reactions aren't completely awkward for someone who watchs the prequels before the trilogy?
      Afterall it's been years Obi-Wan haven't seen R2, so it can be argued that he wouldn't expect it to appear here so it could just look the same as R2 and/or he was just being cautious that R2 had been modify to spy on/hunt them

    I saw Alec Guinness on Letterman. Letterman kept saying '"say the line, say the line!" Guinness says "what line?" Letterman says "you know, the line! The famous line! Say it!" So Guiness goes "Oh all right. May the Force Be With You." And Letterman says "that's the wrong line."
    I think Letterman meant "The Force will be with you always." I don't think Guinness ever actually said "May the Force be with you."

    It so subtle and clever the way 3P0’s eyes light up at 0:34 when the Tusken raider attacks. The they don’t need to make him look more human because he’s a droid but it’s like his eyes go wide in shock which lets the audience know to also be afraid.

    See, people talk about how crushed he his about the guy he's only known for a few hours, but it's very clear from this scene and those before that Ben knew him long before. Owen might've tried to keep them apart - "he's got his father in him" - but it's clear Ben was a part of his life, probably from the very beginning.

    I misuse this scene for years. I thought the sand people saw Obiwan, howled in fear and as a signal to flee. Assumed they dealt with obiwan in the past and wanted nothing to do with him. Later on I found out it was Obiwan mimicking the howl of a sand monster and frightened them off.
