@Joe Shmoe Interesting. The yd100 engine I ordered just showed up yesterday and my cylinder is perfectly fine. I'm about half way done putting it on my bike and I hope to break it in this afternoon.
You keep suprising us with your invaluable, information about, motorized bikes & mechanical tips from your mecanical skills, thanks, mr hover, say hello for you & your dad, on his age, & still ride bikes, say hello, from panama, joe.
got a bt100 recently, it goes real good and has really high torque. you pop the clutch and the front wheels up. power is really good for a motorized. one downside is it has 4 mounting bolts on each side and one has snapped. the intakes and stuff are just different shape but still fit any regular carb. the exhaust tho is unique. i honestly recommend the bt over any other kit. i’ve had a really good experience so far.
A BT100 will outlive the bike in a lot of cases, I had one on a cheapo knockoff mountain bike and the torque and vibration started to crack the frame welds on it 😂
I followed your advice. I got the Firestorm Zeda 80 kit and installed it on a Huffy Nel Lusso. This is my first ever motorized bicycle build. I only ran into a few minor problems but they were pretty simple fixes. The only issue I'm having with it is that with the stock NT carburetor that comes in the kit, it's a little bit hard to start when it's cold or after the motor cools down for a while and at wide open throttle at higher rpms, the fuel mixture leans out a bit at times. But when the motor is at operating temperature, it runs really well. These issues can be solved by swapping the carburetor out for a higher performance carburetor. Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.
I did 1300 miles on my bike from fallon nevada to green river wyoming and then back down through northern utah. I wore my back tire at about 900 miles and we took the kit out of the box installed them and then tested the bikes around the block once and headed out to highway 50 and on the road. It was a blast. My friends motor lost power between vernal and duchesne utah at about 1000 miles of everyday use pulling a bike trailer with gear the entire way. They stopped pulling up hill between 6 and 7 percent grade on the road grade of steepness.
Got a question for you. I live in Reno and just ordered my first kit. Have you ever had any issues with cops? I think the law here is anything over 50cc has to be registered to drive on the road. I had thought about that right after I ordered the engine.
@HabitualTH-camConvict the engine can be shut off and pedaled away so that is what you tell cops if they give you a hard time. They never gave me a hard time. I have been on highway fifty in the lane and a highway patrol rode up behind me waited till it was clear and rode right around me and continued with his day.
I bought a pk80 kit, a very nice little engine. I had to adjust the clutch nut because it was too tight for the clutch to disengage but that was my only "problem" other than the fuel line leaking because of user error.
Great job keeping me intrigued throughout the entire video. Even though I have had an engine for over a year now, I still wanted to see the recommendations of another builder with a lot of experience. Keep up the great videos and stay safe!
I bought that first eBay kit. Unbelievably amazing. 8mm studs, great performance, and the g series head. Only issue is that the head nuts are stuck to the studs. Although new studs are cheap, and runs fine..
@@MrJasenstewart97 It’s been a great motor. Still running great. Studs came off the nuts no problem. I do have to buy a new carb for it though. Still running good :)
my first kit was that seeutek amazon one and I beat the crap out of it and it was great. But now I just buy an ebay engine only and turn it into a frankenstein engine like zeda used to make with a stihl ms660 cylinder and piston, I would highly recommend building your own frankenstein engine, shitloads of power and you can do it in about 1-2 days assuming you have the tools and know-how.
I chose a Grubee gt5a, motorized bicycle canada, alot of good parts, allen key`s not phillips, nice clutch lever, upgraded carb, easy install and so far so good
When you see those ted flags like Phillip's or JIS bolts on the outside, 6mm studs, etc.. you can bet that same substandard quality continues into the inside of your engine as well. Imo, the reverse is also true however to an extent.
Great info brother I have the zeda firestorm on one of my bikes and i love it,i am gonna purchase the yd100 soon but wasn't sure about its quality glad you made this video now I know what path I need to take thanks again have a great holiday👍

Many thanks for the video, I knew that it would be very useful and informative when one of your first points was about the cheapness of the nuts and bolts on some of the kids and how is indicative of the general value of the kit itself. Have you considered recommendations on the actual bike frame to pick when you're considering motorizing a regular bicycle? As you know there are many factors to consider, including the size of the individual, the particulars of the alloy that the frame is made from ( an alloy with a higher amount of aluminium is more likely to bend or break, especially on the axle Forks) and how the style of bike frame affects the performance of the motor and the speed of the finished motorbike. Also any advice whatsoever recommending front and rear lights for a motorbike would be very useful. It's a problem to run the power for them from the motor, and outside battery is always too heavy, and the generators for regular bicycle like our way 2 delicate to be used at any higher speeds or greater bumps. Batteries that are held inside of a attached bicycle light will bounce out, and the brackets regular bicycle lights always break or end up sending your light flying off into traffic. Yet on a motorized bike in traffic visibility is a priority so sorry these problems is a big deal! Thanks again and keep it up
Rag joints are perfectly adequate with a stock or near stock kit. The biggest upside to the clamp on adapters is there's more adjustability side to side.
Thanks for the what to look for section. As someone who lives in Australia none of these specialised websites are available, only amazon and ebay. Even then, none of the specific engines are available, so it was really helpful knowing what to look for.
Went with the motoose for my first attempt at the hobby, I've had four scooters stolen in the last several years, against your advice and it's been a great kit, no leaks anywhere, came with old style petcock, rode daily for nearly 4 months now, had ment to put an engine on the bike when I bought it 10 years ago, you're video encouraged me to make the purchase and glad I did, a seven minute ride to work, and confident enough to ride back home to have lunch with the wife daily! Thank you good sir!
Was running fine when I pulled it two weeks ago, noticed excessive end play in the crank so I split the case to balance the crank and shim and replace main bearing currently I'm running an eBay LD80 that I've balanced faced all mating surfaces and upgraded the mains, the motoose is going back in when I've done the same, the one piece is very convenient for me because it's daily treansportation
With all the price inflation right now, the wildcat pk80 is my current best pick for value. Good performance and reliability on mine. www.californiamotorbikes.com/product-page/2018-wildcat-80cc-motorized-bike-kit-150mpg-35mph
I bought the 66/80 from Bikeberry. It was on sale last year for $170.00. I've ordered some additional parts from them since and have not , knock on wood, had any real problems with them. As I learn more though I am comfortable looking on other sights now if I need to.
I got a YD-100 as my first motorized bike engine, it has been a joy! i got it one year ago and the only thing i had to change was the piston bearing, i make ifood (kind like uber eats delivery) here in Brazil with it, like 8 hours a day and it`s just awesome, it got the toque, reliable (except for the bearing) and it got a decent fuel economy too!
I'm running ZEDA kits. Some engines that have the 6 1/4in, round "dots" molded into the cylinder fins that can be seen on the outsides of the cylinder. This is known as the "D" cylinder. These engines are simply ported a bit better. The easier that a 2 stroke engine can "Breath" the better it will run. Adding a tuned pipe and a bigger carb are a good starting point.
I’ve bought the anbull motors at 14:40 and I can honestly say they are a good motor so far the only issues I’ve had is the sprocket I bought aftermarket hub clamp style DO NOT BUY broke four of my spokes and snapped two of the three sprocket mounts slips and chews up your hub pretty good went to the rag joint instead so much better it’s all about learning as we go.
Amazon is my go to source for my motorized bicycle parts, because if things do not work I can always exchange, plus I can get reviews on certain parts. My jug is a one piece design, and I have no problems with it at all, I put an expansion chamber on it with a magneto upgrade kit and it, without any mods at all.
My family & i, we are building 4 motorized bikes, we are glad to see your instructive, videos & experience, on trail, also, building these bikes, we are learning about them, thanks, say hello, joe.
Run them all 32:1 4 ounce of oil per gallon of gas and tune the carburetor and oil wise for cheap but good oil get a gallon of Walmart 2 stroke oil or get a gallon of Lucas semi synthetic
Makes me wish you had this up back in 2010 when I ordered my first motor kit. Was finding issues shortly after a few months of running it. Namely how the bults holing the head and jug down started stripping out. Probably that it got too hot and the stress caused it. Glad to found this afterword though. Good way to keep informed for future bike motors.
The very first seeutek I purchased came with 6mm, the other 5 after that for building friends bikes were 8mm, never had any issues with any of those bikes.
I spent the extra money and got the 4 stroke, as I planned on riding it to work every day, which I do. Over 100 mpg, fun to ride. Of course, people look at me a little funny when it’s 25 degrees out lol
4 stroke makes sense for longevity, plus the exhaust will be easier to deal with, 2 strokes rely on pulses to draw intake gasses. I want to build a 'stealth' bike that runs very quietly, so 4 stroke is the sensible option, plus you give good MPG figures, might have to get one.
More importantly on motorizing a bike it’s crucial to do it to the right frame many bikes aren’t built strong enough to handle the tourque and stress the engines put on the welds and frames
I predict that based on the title of this video you will have more views than any video you've ever done. I haven't watched it yet. Gonna do a few things then dig right in.
Spoiler Alert! ... you are right! so far it's #1 for view in the first 24 hours :) People have been asking for it for a while. I had to stop being lazy and get off the bike for a bit to make it heh.
I bought the firestorm 80 kit. Worked great but all of these are gonna need a little tweaking and handy work. Not for the faint of wrenching or forum lurking
I like how you referenced between beginner and somebody that has done this before I’m not an expert but I have dealt with these types of engines mostly two-stroke since I was about 16 years old and you are right somebody that’s just a beginner probably is gonna want something less maintenance I will also agree that a lot of the hardware in these kits does hold up pretty good but I will suggest trying to find something a little bit better quality just saying basic kit upgrade it yourself I recently put together a pretty decent bike it gets me where I need to go and my bike will run pretty fast just having a stock engine with a 42 tooth sprocket I believe not 100% sure But I also run a little bit bigger than 49 cc I would really like to here what you think about a 80/100 cc stock .
Also be sure to explore ebike options as well. It's nice being able to rip around in near silence, it doesn't catch anyone's attention, so even less chances of people complaining to the police and deal with a meeting.
Response to the BT80 Although the intake is not a traditional as all China doll motors they cast the intake and open it right up, it's an oval port design angling downward the measurements of the port actually is 42mm. The exhaust port is alot bigger as weel, but still accepts your standard off the shelf ebay and amazon clone pipes. Been running the BT'S for a year now and with no issues except a few broken studs ( 6mm) , now upgraded to 8 mm Compared to my Grubee 66 40/40/40 it's got more torque from low right through to the top. The BT100 is even more a torque monster, I can wheelie with a crack of the throttle 😊😁😂
Currently the motor just turned 4232km on it and still running strong,, I do not flog the hell out my motors, I run 36:1 synthetic oil with premium gas no methanol, never hold full throttle for long, and just simple ride it. Usual issues, carb leaks, plug goes for crap( carry a spare), chain breaks, clutch adjustments
I just read that that the 100CC engines are actually only 80cc for some reason. I do like what they call a 100cc with the big rounded head fins, both on top, and around the sides. It read that that head provides less vibration. I just want a lot of low end power myself, for hauling, and going up hills, and I would be happy doing 20mph at full throttle, which is actually a good clip on a bicycle.
I've got a build so simple a cave man could do it. Carry a 225 pound man and gear over the rocky mountains. Drag a dead body out of the woods . No special moving parts. Available in the town you live in . I used it to go across America this year Florida to California and back. If fixing a flat is fixing your bike then that's what my build is like 👍
Great video. Great info. I might just need a softer seat for my bicycle in order to ride it more, but with the Lamborghini name on the side of frame, maybe a little 2-cycle noise is what it needs. BikeBerry BBR stock kit won out with the discount and free shipping. Will soon see if it works on this hybrid bike. Keep up the great videos!
Hey, i already bought a really cheap 50cc from Walmart, but this is still a great video because I think I can anticipate replacing that engine in a year or so, and this video is really helpful in letting me know how to properly shop for these in the future.
@@keeganhache6667 Nowhere in your original comment does it say that. Nor does it even imply that... Anyways now that I know what you are asking I can answer. I don't hate the motor, nor did I say that... As I explained in the video, a $180 motor IMO is not a good value with a one piece jug, and 6mm studs. It is over priced.
Great information sir I would have to say your first kit is crucial for getting hooked on the hobby get a bad one and you feel ripped off and discouraged pick a good one and you got bugs in your smile
Got my 66/80cc 2 stroke kit off ebay even upgraded from 44 to 36tooth rear haven't had any problems runs great an I'll get the one off ebay as well might try the 4 stroke kit next build or electric maybe
Good vid,and great tips."G-series"is the cylinder style I tried to describe once. When i'd run through 4-5 tanks if fuel I let mine just rev as far as it wanted, and was afraid after it hit 26mph with a 56 tooth drive. It was still winding up at about 7000rpm or so vs 23mph with other cylinder. The flow of air,and torque were both increased.
I bought a kit from Amazon by anbull and it was pretty good. The only thing that was defective was the clutch arm the pushes the pin, it wore out and I was not able to start my bike.
Ive got the motor that the head and cylinder sleeve are one piece, yes a pain to mess with but it just keeps running. Got around 100 miles with no issue
Just to be fair the Anbull 80cc bike motor kit is a good buy though there are better.. (i got it thru amazon with the 4 year warrenty for 20 dollars which for the first time builder I highly suggest.) The hardware was decent but the motor case bolts were cheap but the motor ports are clean and clear. I have got 40 mph as per my weight 175lbs. Thanks for the video. good job.
@@LAHover Now dont get me wrong, They are decent for a cheaper build kit ... but like I said there are better. The Anbull I got had debris inside the cylinder from what looks like them cleaning up the spark plug threads and should be thoroughly be gone over BEFORE running the unit. Since the gaskets haven't been baked on yet, You can safely take it apart with out compromising the integrity of the gaskets... though extreme care should be taken when doing so as you can tear a gasket if they are stuck to the case. I unfortunately didn't open the case to check for debris inside where the piston and crank were. ( knowing what I know now I wish I had. Though it seems to be ok for now. I would spend the extra 20 - 40 dollars to have one that has been tuned or given the once over by the distributor like BBR or any reputable seller. ect. But I highly value your opinion and agree with 99.99 % of what you have stated here. Please continue your efforts to help the motor bike community as you do way more help than harm. I have liked and subscribed to your channel. Ride on Right on brother!
I never use the rag joint bolts that the kits come with. I use black Allen bolts, and lock nuts. Easier to tighten on the Fly because every bicycle multi-tool has a set of Allen wrenches on it
I never new these kits existed until 3 days ago. Having never seen a bike here in the UK with a motor on it. I came across them on Amazon when looking for parts for my moped... Not sure if legal here, but sure fancy building one.
Just starting to look at this my criterion are... 1. Not made in China 2. Used on adult trike 3. Works in wet weather. 4. Pull or electric start. 5. Less than 50cc. 6. Not too loud hopefully.
Thank you for this video. Very informative for newbs. Although I already got my motor a while ago and didn't know anything about it at the time, (and still didnt until i saw this)it's nice to know my motor has all the best bits and for the best price too.
13:05 powder coated motors always "suck" meaning they cause tolerance issues at every mating surface, therefore they create a vac leak..... and therefor the motor literally sucks air in from everywhere. will be running lean until she pops. if you can get her to run at all.
I bought a Motoos 50cc black last year on Amazon, looks like it is even less expensive this year. I don't think it was all that bad although I chuckle when I watch videos that say it takes 3 hours to put one together. It took me 3 hours to clean the paint out of the spark plug hole.

when buying on amazon, many sellers offer the item under ONE listing...that is very often the reason why you may buy something on amazon and receive a different version or color of the same basic item. This isn't so much an Amazon issue, as it is the individual seller, many of whom may sell items that they have little knowledge of. They get motors in stock, find a listing on amazon that looks like theirs but they don't actually do any research, and so they list theirs for sale under a listing that isn't actually identical to their motors.
I would either spend the money on a good quality engine or buy the cheap one then get quality parts separately to build the engine. My engine was one of the cheap kits all painted black like what’s on eBay. Everything was poor quality or junk out of the box. The only engine parts I still use is the crank, engine cases and some bolts
Ive had 3 bbr stage 4 All of them were slightly different . One of them had really good crankshaft balance & is stupid fast The other two weren’t very balanced & vibrated Enough to want to change out crankshafts ....So I think it’s like playing the lottery.
Hear here! Bicycle-Engines Zeda80 is pretty bullet-proof, I've got two, and they both run great! Some of the components with the kit leave a bit to be desired, but both those engines exceeded my expectations, I recommend that outfit to everyone on the Facebook that asks where to buy...
Very informative video. I am thinking of doing my first build and I am glad I found this video as there are soo many options to choose from. One question though. Is there a reason you recommend the Zeda 80 over the BBR tuning? If price is a non issue, would you say the BBR is the one to get?
The Firestorm has proven it's self for me personally to be a solid motor with good stock performance. I have not tested the BBR Kit, so I just can't say for sure. It might very well be just as good or better.
One big thing I can tell you is look at any maintenance video on these bikes on youtube! Most older guys dont hand start the threads and they also crank the hell on an electric impact on that shitty low graded steel/ low graded aluminum. They need to be teaching the younger guys proper steps putting it together instead of doing it as fast as possible! Torq wrench, no new person needs to be slamming screws down with an i.pact! I'm trying to get a used one running for a friend right now it's a cheap kit and almost every problem u mentioned in the video hardware wise this has! From previous owners operator errors! Thanks for the video!
I wouldn't just recently got that one Magneto ,Cdi , Clutch shaft as well as clutch pads were all defective. Engine never was close to being able to run hope this helps.
If you want dependability and reliability, go 4 stroke. Another advantage of the 4 stroke is that you can run it twice as long as a 2 cycle before over heating. My experience with any 2 stroke, they become finicky, going to spend more time trying to get it started.
I’ve had them all. I settled on friction from Staton running a Robin Subaru EH035. My roommate insists on the two stroke Chinese kits. He’s always breaking down.
Ive had my 50cc ebay kit that was 115 dollars for over 5 years now and for a 50 its a powerhouse i had no idea they had so many motor options now but ive basically built my engine ive ported my intake and exhaust so big i cant use an exhaust pipe at all since ive stripped the bolts for the muffler in the head twice and had to retap but that always fails since it puts too much pressure on the pipe at the flange but what im getting to is ive replaced just about every part in the kit other than the motor and gas tank and my 50 would always keep up to my buddies cheap 80s mine was ported already and i bought a smaller sproket but i still have yet to reach my power ban so im still making changes but i knew when i heard you say people have a bad experience with 50s i had to speak up because mines a trooper like i said ive been riding it for about 5 years ive seen atleast 3 of my buddies blow em up granted they probably never mixed gas right which is something to watch out for
In your opinion what is the best engine for a 20 in. Schwinn bike? A remake of the 1960's model. The engine not costing above $500.00. Great, informative video!! Thank's!
I love the information you give on your channel! I am thinking of possibly converting a Huffy 26 speed mountain bike. I might need to pull a fairly heavy trailer with it. I am considering the Wildcat PK 80 or the Zeda 80. Could you tell me what your recommendation would be between those, or if you have another recommendation? This would be my first build and I do need something budget friendly.
Would you say there's a big jump in performance with a YD100 over an 80cc with the g series cylinder and 40mm stroke? Been researching kits and I'm torn between the two.

Since I couldn't find the yd100 I looked for the zeda80, in addition to the engine the site offers additional accessories such as the racing cylinder or the performance cylinder heads, in your opinion is it better to spend on these things or buy an exaust Did you go to the carburetor?
Feb 2021 where do we get QUALITY upgrades these days? Heads, pipes, carbs etc. Emphasis on QUALITY. Are we limited to the obvious 3? I don't mind spending more for better parts.
Years ago. I bought a racing 2 stroke motor. It didn't come with a cdi. It was wired directly from the magneto straight to the spark plug. The only problem I have is trying to remember who I bought it from. Have you seen or used a motor such as that. And if so? Where can I get one. And from who?
Really cool resource! Do you have any recommendations for an engine and/or bike for a folding bike? Is it even possible to motorized a folding bike? I would love to so I could store it in my smaller apartment easily and take it up to the mountains. Thanks!

Can you spare a cylinder that's not a reed intake?
When you see those ted flags like Phillip's or JIS bolts on the outside, 6mm studs, etc.. you can bet that same substandard quality continues into the inside of your engine as well. Imo, the reverse is also true however to an extent.
Seeutek makes some surprisingly good kits. I'm glad to see he talked about them
When I build for friends I exclusively use seeutek.

Thanks again and keep it up
Very informative and easy to understand everything the man says, this is good narrator and I can see this channel growing
That's awesome dude! 😎
Is it still running ?
Was running fine when I pulled it two weeks ago, noticed excessive end play in the crank so I split the case to balance the crank and shim and replace main bearing currently I'm running an eBay LD80 that I've balanced faced all mating surfaces and upgraded the mains, the motoose is going back in when I've done the same, the one piece is very convenient for me because it's daily treansportation
Useful information well organized with visuals. New to motorized bike building and will definitely begin with many of the options offered.
And they will last
Makes me wish you had this up back in 2010 when I ordered my first motor kit. Was finding issues shortly after a few months of running it. Namely how the bults holing the head and jug down started stripping out. Probably that it got too hot and the stress caused it. Glad to found this afterword though. Good way to keep informed for future bike motors.
The very first seeutek I purchased came with 6mm, the other 5 after that for building friends bikes were 8mm, never had any issues with any of those bikes.
wow someone who actually know what they're talking about, great video! could you do a video about how to make these as quiet as possible?

Good to hear :) Yes many of the cheap kits will do just fine of course. I hope it stay solid for years, ride on!
How long is so far?
How's it holding up a couple months in? I'm wondering because I'm cheap and will probably go the same route
@@tedtalour6414 bought one 6 months ago and daily ride it, break it in right and it'll probably last longer than the bike
Mine blew up two weeks . i think piston was in backwards. It broke a ring gouged cyl bad
I agree. Even though I tend to use cheap bikes, the stronger the frame, the safer the ride.

I bought the firestorm 80 kit. Worked great but all of these are gonna need a little tweaking and handy work. Not for the faint of wrenching or forum lurking
Totally agree
Just have to deal with lack of range it's way more $ to start and the noise is that of a dying rabbit.
@@spookysockmonkey4605 I believe only cheap kits have any bad noises. The only noises my ebike makes is tire noise.
Response to the BT80
Although the intake is not a traditional as all China doll motors they cast the intake and open it right up, it's an oval port design angling downward the measurements of the port actually is 42mm.
The exhaust port is alot bigger as weel, but still accepts your standard off the shelf ebay and amazon clone pipes.
Been running the BT'S for a year now and with no issues except a few broken studs ( 6mm) , now upgraded to 8 mm
Compared to my Grubee 66 40/40/40 it's got more torque from low right through to the top.
The BT100 is even more a torque monster, I can wheelie with a crack of the throttle 😊😁😂
Is it still running? 🤔

@@SandmanOG thank you for the reply 👍
Currently the motor just turned 4232km on it and still running strong,, I do not flog the hell out my motors, I run 36:1 synthetic oil with premium gas no methanol, never hold full throttle for long, and just simple ride it.
Usual issues, carb leaks, plug goes for crap( carry a spare), chain breaks, clutch adjustments
I went with the Flying Horse epa certified engine from BikeBerry .....its been good.
The 4 stroke flying horse?
If fixing a flat is fixing your bike then that's what my build is like 👍
@@Jarrod_D Sounds wild.

Great video. Great info. I might just need a softer seat for my bicycle in order to ride it more, but with the Lamborghini name on the side of frame, maybe a little 2-cycle noise is what it needs. The hardware was decent but the motor case bolts were cheap but the motor ports are clean and clear. I have got 40 mph as per my weight 175lbs. Thanks for the video. good job.
Thanks for the feed back. Many builders say they like their Anbulls, I may give one a shot :)
I would spend the extra 20 - 40 dollars to have one that has been tuned or given the once over by the distributor like BBR or any reputable seller. ect.

This helps greatly! I'm overwhelmed.
1. Not made in China
2. Used on adult trike
3. Works in wet weather.
4. Pull or electric start.
5. Less than 50cc.
6. Not too loud hopefully.

13:05 powder coated motors always "suck"
meaning they cause tolerance issues at every mating surface, therefore they create a vac leak..... and therefor the motor literally sucks air in from everywhere. will be running lean until she pops. if you can get her to run at all.

when buying on amazon, many sellers offer the item under ONE listing...that is very often the reason why you may buy something on amazon and receive a different version or color of the same basic item.
