Much respect for Mr.Ref here. Thanks to him, we got a chance to see Muay Thai clinch again. In both recent MT and Lethwei fights, some stupid ref break the fight too soon while engaging the clinch and ruin the beautiful close range fighting techniques of Muay Thai and Lethwei. Lethwei and MT aren't kickboxing and the art of clinching is the art within the art too.
Haggerty has improved so much from this to ONE.

I'm Thai but I think Ja fought very low quality only walk forward but not sharp. Goodluck for him he has more experience than Haggerty.
Haggerry has low experience on the ring but fight very beautiful. If he has more experience he could be a very good muaythai fighter.
For me, Haggerty is amazing. He is the real MuayThai. His techniques are the same as other Thai boxers.

I have to say though, it got annoying by the end to keep hearing the announcers talk about how great Haggerty is when Ja was very clearly winning the fight. Im not trying to take anything from Haggerty, he is VERY impressive, but holy shit guys give some respect to the dude who is actually winning, too.

The difference in record may not be as big a deal as youre making it. Just because a guy doesnt have an extensive pro record that doesnt mean he isnt seasoned or seriously dangerous. Bazooka Joe won a world title on his 14th fight, for instance.
In this fight, Ja is the smaller man by a significant margin. He walked Haggerty down and imposed his will on a tough, aggressive, bigger, stronger, and obviously very talented opponent. Id say Ja was impressive enough that he ought to be given credit for what he did well rather than dismissed with some silliness about being “messy” or having “poor technique” 😂
Michael Powers absolutely agree dude, just look at Haggerty’s last victory in one championship against Sam A. Sam A has 160 odd fights and got beaten convincingly. Haggerty is now a world champion after beating a legend in the sport.
You’ve had some real classic replies. Someone seems to think it takes no real skill to clinch lol, and seems to think that Ja was making the fight messy.
There’s a reason why the Thais spend so much time clinching. My first fight camp over there was a total eye opener. Could deal with most of it, except the 10k runs in the heat and the 2-3 hour clinch sessions.

When the first round is like a scouting mission, I can understand that strategically but the walk off at the end I have never understood.
@@198oakley It's to symbolize they've clearly won the fight, and if the other fighter comes forward, it means they've acknowledged this and they're chasing trying to land and make up points. If they score, then the roles reverse. Alternatively, both fighters may back off because they think they've won, or both will continue to go at each other.
If you think about how often the Thais fight, and how long they've been training/fighting (since a young age), it makes sense not to smash your body up even more after you've clearly won before the fight is over.
It will also have something to do with the betting, and I think there's less ego and more mutual respect between the Thais generally, meaning they won't necessarily try to go for the ko or further injure their opponent. A lot of them are fighting for their families well-being, not just themselves.
Haggerty only lost this due to losing all those big points in the clinch.

Good fight, Haggerty did well. Ja could've done a lot more if he was proficient with sweeps...he must have caught Haggerty's kicks 10 times and didn't do anything. Ja was good with clinch takedowns, though. Kudos to Haggerty for fine use of the elbows.
yea i know i'm years late on this but haggerty eventually learned to actually lock his hands behind his opponents back to score those body lock takedowns. he does pretty good with dumps and pushing off but after a couple Ja had his number

Good fight. Jonathan finally got a good opponent to fight instead of knocking out local fighters in the first 10 seconds. Looked like the Thai was a bit more aggressive in most rounds of fight which gave him the win. The Thai also was able to block Jonathan’s kicks and strikes. Excellent fight though.
