    A few comments about Article 16 which may be useful....
    Documented risk assessments are required for the reduced take off distance (15m) and for flying in a park in a built-up area.
    Membership of the BMFA is £38pa and provides £25M Public Liability Insurance cover. FPV UK is £19.99pa with £5M PLI. NB You cannot fly commercially.
    You can fly DJI drones such as the Mavic 2 under Article 16 but you cannot use any of the autonomous features during the flght (Follow Me, Waypoints, RTH,...). Not relevant to flying FPV but worth pointing out. (This has been confirmed by the CAA).

    Love the visual pun in the intro - "Let's dive right in" and the SFX spotter. Genius, Paul, comic genius!

    How did you do the spotter character, Paul? It's cool and I could have fun with my students with that. The video is much appreciated.

      Thanks Paul. I made her entirely in blender. She is quite simple to make if you have a good understanding of the software, but the software can be overwhelming if you have not used it before.
      It is quite a broad process. It there anything in particular you would like to know? and do have you ever used Blender before?

      @@paul-thys I have played with Blender but didn't get very far; I'm more of a coder, so my 'creative' brain cell is a bit under-developed :-). I will revisit the software and have another go. A colleague uses 3DS Max and I might see if they are ready for a challenge. Thanks for getting back to me.

      @@PaulMcKillop I have not tried 3DS Max, I was thinking about unity next and if I do anymore 3D challenges.
      My spelling is awful so code is quite the challenge for me.
      Let me know it goes or if you would like anymore info on her!

      @@paul-thys I used Unity for an EU Erasmus project. It's tricky but very satisfying when it works. We were making VR artefacts for early-stage dementia sufferers. Most coding editors have superb auto-complete these days, so it's not such a challenge as it was. In a few years, it might all be drag and drop.

    Fpv has really been overlooked when they have been looking at these laws,,, Most fpv racers are under 250g one could even argue they are not drones, they are quadcopters. A drone is a computer aided uav,, fpv quads are not.
    I had the ids last year but iv not renewed it due to not needing it I don't fly my 5 inch racer anymore,,, the techs becoming so so tiny and light now ,,you can easily build a 20gram quad with onboard 1080p dvr . Also a Camera is something that records or takes pictures. You can get by this by flying with an fpv cam as its used a visual aid not to record or take pictures,, ,, I'd love for them to be a little clearer about the fpv scene,, its more aimed at uav photo guys whos drones fly themselves anyway

    • @paul-thys
      @paul-thys  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      FPV has certainly been overlooked and the Article 16 feels like a flimsy add on. It is clearly aimed at video/photography UAVs and even this has been rushed.

      @@paul-thys iv been at it a while now, never had any hassle, if anything everyone around has been interested in it asking about it. Gave a youth over the road a small setup to enjoy it too,, I'd say just jump in and go for it, it's so enjoyable, flew uavs for years, its not the same not 1 bit. Took some getting used to fpv. It's like therapy. Iv actually got my original setup for sale a taranis xlite controller and mobula6hd for £130 I did have spare goggles to but the battery's useless and there rubbish so I can't justify selling them.

      @@paul-thys on a more serious note, I don't know if it was meant as a joke in your video but if you plan on using that mobile phone vr adapter and an otg fpv rx like the Eachine rotg02 then I highly, highly recommend you don't waste your money.
      The analogue to digital conversion is atrocious and the image quality is terrible as well as a low frame rate.
      Buy proper fpv goggles and ones with the highest resolution possible as well as having diversity.
      I'm not suggesting fatshark goggles, on the contrary, box goggles offer a far more immersive experience with the much, MUCH higher field of view compared to postage stamps though a tunnel on the fatshark style and I fly with high end box goggles myself.
      You need something with a resolution meeting or exceeding 720x576 to get the full quality from a pal signal but going much higher future proofs your purchase and my 7" 1280x720 goggles are now being used with a digital HD system as well as analogue, they can display 720p in full quality but will accept a 1080p source and downscale the image to just over 720.
      You also want the biggest screen possible, small screens with massive magnification aren't great even if they do have the resolution.
      Buy the best you can, you will waste a load of money like many of us did if you buy cheap gear first as you will be replacing it ultra fast!
      My first goggles sucked and within weeks I had ordered the ones I have now but these ones have been with me for over 3 years and o have no plans on replacement unless they stop working and I can't find suitable replacement parts.
      I can't stress enough that you need the best screen possible Infront of your eyes!

    • @paul-thys

      Yes, but you are unlikely to be near any commercial, residential, industrial or recreational ground so you should be able to quite freely.

    I have flown rc Aircraft since 91. Then DJIl got involved with there ripoff DJI drones. All you want is peoples money. Drone Delivery is a phantasy and it would never work. what you say is not exactly right....most people dnt know other pilots and Birds are far more un predictable.

    • @paul-thys
      @paul-thys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see them as completely different hobbies. FPV looks more fun for flying, but it takes a whole lot of skill to get decent footage.
      I think drone delivery will happen, there are already tests taking place. It will be flying from a warehouse to collection point rather than a house though.
      Agreed, I like flying solo...
