      100% agree. I have Orqa, DRL, AI Drone Sim, Uncrashed, Velocidrone, Tiny Whoop Go, and both Liftoff games. Liftoff is definitely my favorite for the physics, Velocidrone is great for racing, and Uncrashed is super pretty with decent enough physics for freestyle. Uncrashed is definitely the new kid on the block & the best looking and has me interested to see what it'll be like in a year. Tiny Whoop Go was the first one I picked up & it's a legit. Haven't fired up Liftoff Micros yet but Tiny Whoop Go will definitely be what I'm comparing it to.

      Yeah man, totally.
      Like I probably spent more on hardware shipping than the simulators, and I'm just a noob.
      The price you pay for sims is nothing compared to the rest of the kit you have to get. I just bought Liftoff and DRL and practiced for like 20h+ each before even attempting to fly a real quad.
      One thing to mention though is that if you get a lot of stick-time behind the simulator, it ramps up your expectations. Then it can be a huge let-down once you get to the real deal you gotta travel at least an hour for and hit a weird problem like your VTX signal being borked.

  • @JoshuaBardwell
    @JoshuaBardwell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    Two sims that need to be acknowledged are Liftoff: Micro Drones, which shows a lot of promise but is still in Early Access and can't really hold its own yet; and DCL sim, which is okay in a lot of ways, but at a price of $30 is just too expensive to recommend. Also, Liftoff (the original) is the only one that has Linux native support.
    Honorable mention goes to Accro, which has decent physics, but only a single level which is some weird procedurally-generated islands which we don't feel are very fun to freestyle around. We tried several others which didn't make the cut because they had technical issues, or because development has pretty much died.

      @@ecoaventurasdelistmo I have tested every single one of them, and FPV Air 2 remains the best in terms of sim engine: the graphics aren't top, but that's not important to my eyes.

    Velocidrone is my favorite for racing. Uncrashed, with their outstanding graphics, gets my vote for freestyle flippy floppy cruizen around. Of course Tiny Whoop Go was my fav whoop but now have been doing that on Velocidrone as well. I started on FPV Freerider because it was free. The rest of them I have tried and just did not like for one reason or another.

    • @racerat
      @racerat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. The uncrashed tracks are pretty dull at the moment, but will hopefully improve and the drift cars in the untracked container port are excellent. Love the Velocidrone racing and community though. Anyone who flies planes or Helis should have Heli-X as well. I do also really like the new scenes in Velocidrone for freestyle.

  • @fpv_boi

    One huge advantage that Liftoff has since today's 1.4.0 update is the implementation of Actual rates. The only reason I fly with Betaflight rates on my real quad instead of Actual rates is that the sim always feels a bit different even if I try to match the Betaflight and Actual rate curves as much as possible.
    The addition of Actual rates definetly puts it on top of any of the other sims in my opinion.

Also got FPV.Skydive which has also helped but the graphics aren't as good. i was very curious if you were gonna mention mods for other games, and you included GTA but i feel like the 2 Minecraft mods are very worth trying, even if you think the graphics aren't good enough. the ability to super intuitively build literally anything to fly around is too great to pass on, so you should 100% try it if you have Minecraft, which is way more likely than having GTA5.

      you can keep flying for hundreds of kilometers and get so much variety with hills and plateaus, trees and covered forests, jungles and temples, with continuously generating variations. go for amplified terrain and you can get even more insane formations to matty flip, trippy spin or race through and around.

    I use liftoff via steam in a somewhat crummy laptop. It has integrated graphics instead of a graphics card. At first I thought it wouldn’t run but I just turned down the screen resolution a bit and then it suddenly worked 100%. My recommendation is if you wanna try a sim but are unsure of your computer then just get the sim. It’ll probably work. If it doesn’t then you now have a $20 game that will be there for you till you get a better PC. It’s actually not a loss.

    My tip for the very beginning - gta v + drone mod. It gives huge, beautiful, alive map to explore and learn very basics of acro mode. I can't fly on those small maps for a long time time because it's super-boring. You can find videos on youtube to check how cool that is. About accuracy - yes it might be not the best, but there a lot of settings so if you know how it actually feels - you can set it up more or less correct.

    Nice nice, I have tried them all (except DRL and AI drone) and mostly agree with you (velocidrone for racers, uncrashed is ok, fpv freeride deserves a mention...) DCL, though, has been the one i've had the most fun on, because of multiplayer, rankings, friends, also the maps are great, actualy the best after GTA. DCL is also by far the best performance wise, not everybody has an RTX gpu, but still wants good fps and graphics. I have actually installed DCL on my nephews laptop that doesn't even have a dedicated gpu, and with the graphics to the min it ran great.

      For the price of $30 we thought dcl was too expensive compared to the other options.

      @@JoshuaBardwell i get your point, I bought it when it was under 20, but in our hobby 30 dollars isn't much compared to the global cost of what we spend each year... Building new drones for fun or blowing up esc here and there ;-)

    just wanted to point out that freerider sim lets you setup specs for your drone as well. not as robust as the ai drone sim, but you can at least dial in the floatiness of your quad if you have any experience with it. Also something you glossed over in the freerider recharged was that it offers a level builder as well as the ability to import other peoples maps. this helps keep things fresh or allows you to build specific things you want to get good at in freestyle.

    Other less known simulators which deserve to be tried are FlowState (extremely realistic for racing and free on Steam, but it is still quite basic) and Real Drone Simulator, another free sim by Hungarian developers.

      I love Flowstate, looks like analog feed and very realistic "dirty prop" feel.!

    Flying outside Joshua's house, classic. They forgot to include you standing in your kossack : )

    Take a look at uncrashed‘s new updates. They reworked the whole interface and added Multiplayer.

    Might be fun to have inside of your house course as well, if contained all floors. Just make sure dogs are outside before sim can start :) But maybe lots of prep before mapping for vid, or use your footage from woops. I've seen 3 big layouts of pilots flying in their 3 story houses, cool.

    I personally love the maps on the DCL sim because they feel alive and have things to chase. DCL is the best cinematic-style practice, IMO.

    Joshua Bardwell. You should point out that fpv freerider can be download on your phone and you can still use your drone controller to fly.

    What about RDS (real drone simulator)? I know it's not a fully developed game, but it seems promising. And you can play with it on android too, even with a controller, using usb cable :D
    (and it is FREE)

    Gents, thanks so much. Sims are so much better to start out flying with. Happy New Year!
    Do you have recommendations for controllers? I'm so new to this, I need all the help I can get.
