Agree 100%. I really enjoy their calm demeanor and soft speaking voices besides been soo knowledgeable about every corner of Mapperton House. What a delightful history lesson! Thanks for educating us . Blessings to you and your family.
Looking foward to more Mapperton history..they both have such a calm and fine way of explaining with a hint of humour. I esp really like the garden tours in the past also.
Do enjoy the commentary given by the Earl and Countess in all the videos they appear in. I would like to suggest a postcard be made of the beautiful portrait of the Countess when she was a young woman to be sold to the public.
Bravo! Brava! 👏🏻 I love this couple. I lost my dad in my twenties. I miss him and my mother. There’s something so comforting about the Earl and Countess. A long-standing marriage is a testament not only to them, but also to their parents. “Well-bred,” as my mother would say. Lovely. So, yes to it all: ceilings, China. I’d love a show on books from the libraries. Thank you, Mapperton. Buying the book now. Can’t wait!
I would enjoy knowing more about any instruments in the house and/or any noteworthy musical performances in the manor . Would you present a concert sometime with historic instruments?
I could listen to the Earl and Countess for hours.... plus I think about your children and grandchildren (one day), they will absolutely treasure their grandparents showing their love for Mapperton.
The Earl and Countess are so wise. One loves how his eye twinkles when he looks at her. She obviously enjoys his company. For services to heritage, please award these two a KBE and DBE!
What a wonderful tour of the fireplaces. They are quite beautiful. Would love to hear about the china patterns, and the history of the carpets and possibly a tour of the library and its many interesting books.
I love listening to the Earl and Countess. They are both charming and down to Earth. No wonder Luke is so delightful! Please let them know how much we enjoy listening to them speaking of the house features, the gardens and the Montagu family history.
This was delightful! Can’t believe structures from the 15/16th centuries still stand and function. Look forward to more of these videos. Would really like one on the elements that your family contributed to Mapperton. I’m really curious about the dishes and/or dinnerware.
Hello from Toronto, Ontario, Canada! I love watching all about Mapperton and having The Earl and Countess of Sandwich! Your Grace, I would love to see and read the books and diaries in your library! I enjoy the presentation of every member of your family.💖🥰 🇨🇦💖
Wonderful video! We look forward to episodes featuring Luke's parents. A favorite is when Luke's father tells Julie that they will have to "think on it" whether her recipe is actually good ice cream or not. So diplomatic! Luke's mother's knowledge of the garden and all the plants was so impressive in another video.
The fireplace tour was SPECTACULAR! But there is no doubt in my mind that one of the greatest TREASURES at Mapperton are The Earl and Countess! I just LOVE their minds … their passion …and wonderful sense of humour ! Their Love for Mapperton is brilliantly infectious! Thank you!
The Earl and Countess are so fun to watch, intelligent and the humor hilarious. The Countesses description “wicked” fireplace. 😂 There is so much history I’m sure it’s overwhelming to wrap your brain around. At least for this youngster from the new world.
Wonderful fireplaces! I think the fireplace gives the home center, warmth, and character. In the film, I am just fascinated with the whole place. I love history, and would spend years reading all those books I see and researching all the paintings....wow. You are living in a museum/library - a true place of inspiration! Thank you for sharing a bit of this home!
A free tour and history lesson from an Earl and a Countess, what a privilage! I would really appreciate more of the family history as it is so helpful for the presivation of our history as a nation and a great way for the general population to understand how we became the nation we are today.
I still marvel at how the Earl and Countess can remember all those info and history even at their age. Passion about the topic really makes a difference. A video on the items from Hinchingbrooke House would be so interesting.
How wonderful to see the Earl and Countess. Very informative talk that they shared. It would be wonderful to see what the house looked like in pictures or old video when they took over and what they had to do with Mapperton to restore it. This channel really does a great job of showing how much work, money and knowledge go into not just maintaining these grand homes but restoring them and updating them as well.
I loved this episode with Lord and Lady Sandwich. I hope we get to see a lot more of them. They are so knowledgeable not only on the history of Mapperton and its contents but on the montagu family.
I adore these two 💕 can I suggest a new segment for your show??? what about Luke's parents have a spot once a week where, they choose a piece of furniture or ornament and sit down to discuss it's artwork/story over a cup of tea...then link the object to historical events at the time......just want to see them more such a sweet couple ☺️☺️☺️
Honestly, I'd listen to the Countess talk about paper clips for 20 minutes! Or anything at all! She delights me! The Earl is charming- I love to see them together! Thank you!
@@josephinebcmpatrick9207 we talked about cows, he’s raise’s cows and it was before the video. But I will have to tell him about the fireplace’s, he’ll get a kick out of it lol.
Love hearing from these two highly intellectual individuals. What a treat to hear them speak of the history of Mapperton AND Britain. I received the book they were using as a Christmas present and hope to come to Mapperton someday and see it for myself. In the mean time, jolly good show!👍🍷
Thank you so much for your time and sharing those beautiful fireplaces. The time and effort to make those fireplaces are only matched by the warmth and glow that brightens the room. Terry
Oh this was just a delight💕💗Thank you…. Please more on on the architecture, China, glassware, and silver. I would love to know what was acquired from Hinchingbrooke, and about the lovely furniture. I really think your home is one of the most beautiful in all the United Kingdom because it combines such lovely homely livable style, with stunning architecture and one of the most enchanting gardens….yes yes more please🌻
I missed the Earl and Countess, glad to see them again. After years of genealogy I still need and wish I had a handy reference guide to my ancestors and their lives, activities, especially as I age and things jumble together. ❤️
The bas relief design flanking the Dionysian fireplace (the 4th fireplace) depict aThyrsus (Thyrsuses pl.?) which was the tradition symbol of Dionysus/ Bacchus. It was the staff of the god made from a staff of giant fennel, capped with a pinecone and wrapped in grape vines and taeniae. It symbolized prosperity, fertility, and hedonism. You can see a thyrsus also on the coat of arms for the A.D. Club at Harvard (founded 1830-40s) surmounted by a Bull girded with a laurel wreath.
I absoultely adore and love Luke's parents! Their knowlege and love of their home is evident. I certainly hope we get to see much more of them. Absoultely delightful!!
These two are delightful! I love them, and will love to see absolutely anything they'd like to tell us about. There is something really special about their knowledge, not just of family members who have come before, but the various changes each era made to the house(s), how those interconnect with other family estates and other local sites, and the sense that maintaining this knowledge is more than merely stewardship of information and building -- it is a lasting connection to the past, a knowledge of and appreciation for the family's roots. Honestly, I can't imagine living in such a house and NOT being a bit in love with its history... how much more so when its history is the very story of your own family? What a wonderful thing to live in a time when it's possible to share these experiences even though we are many miles apart.
What an enjoyable visit with a sweet couple. I love your home and the history and stories are fascinating. I recently found the two channels and as an American the age and family details really are intriguing. I just enjoyed a cup of tea ☕️ looking at your stunning fireplaces. 🤗
Beautiful John and Caroline! Thank you for sharing this amazing history! The fireplaces and paintings are stunning and I love the lamps! I look forward to many more videos from you both!
Thank you so much for these extraordinary visits in a wonderful house. I highly recommend to buy Tim Connor's BOOK - the history of Mapperton. There is so much to read and take in that one needs to read it and re-read it. A real masterpiece and the visits with the Earl and Countess of Sandwich are such terrific complements.
Lovely tour! ~ Mapperton's fireplaces are so architectural and beautiful. I always think a fireplace makes a room...a vital focal point. I feel that rooms without a fireplace (even good fake ones!) are like rooms without a window. I have a 'Green Man' face-carving on the drawer of my Victorian 'Neo-Jacobethan' oak desk! As was frequently traditional, when the image was applied in wood-carving, he has elaborate oak leaves streaming from each side of his mouth. As the Countess says, it is a very old traditional emblem.
Luke's parents are just as delightful a couple as Luke and Julie are. Thank you for this engrossing, beautiful fireplace tour!😊❤
Agree 100%. I really enjoy their calm demeanor and soft speaking voices besides been soo knowledgeable about every corner of Mapperton House. What a delightful history lesson! Thanks for educating us . Blessings to you and your family.

I just love the Earl and Countess. They could tell me about anything and I would find it interesting!🙂😎🤔
Deep respect for the Earl and Countess and their knowledge and presentations. How wonderful to have their insight ❤ 😊
Looking foward to more Mapperton history..they both have such a calm and fine way of explaining with a hint of humour. I esp really like the garden tours in the past also.
@@pjgreen1786 I think Julie is amazing and I would prefer that she be herself. The Earl and Countess are delightful and so knowledgeable.
I really enjoy this look at a historic house. The awesome responsibility of keeping it going generation after generation and century after century.

Love the Earl and Countess!!! I worry, though, about the Earl’s breathless speech. I hope he’s feeling well.
So quintessentially English really enjoyed this
Mapperton should be on trending pages

Such interesting to know what is written behind some of these fireplaces. Like writing messages on the studs in a wall or something.
Please more of Luke's mom and dad! They are adorable 😍 ❤ 💕 I learned so much!
