I grew up in SE Michigan and I'm enamoured with all its vinage-y lovliness. I think midcentury Detroit has some of the most beautiful little homes I've ever seen. These bathrooms are in every single one of them. They're in the large, masterful homes as well, there's just more of them. No matter what the tile color is or how much I may hate that color, if the house I'm looking at has original anything I'm excited. Luckily no one else wants them so they're in my tiny budget. If I walk into a "flipped" house with plasticky flooring and brand new drywall it's an immediate NO. I actually feel a bit sorry for the place. I mourn the loss of cove ceilings and inefficient metal-framed windows. If I wanted to live in a condo, I wouldn't be looking at a house. Bring on the problems that occur in a house that's of an age. Those are my kind of problems. I wish more fixers like LK embraced what they couldn't (and sometimes shouldn't) change. It always has a richer feel at the end of the project. Her age-respecting bathroom looks amazing. It looks intentional. Which it is. Sorry for the book.😅
My husband and I sold our last home 15 years ago and decided to rent. We treat our home that we are renting as though it was our own. We don’t care if we are paying the bank or a landlord with our make overs; it is our home while we live here. We have paid for a landscape architect to do our backyard, we have painted our whole house and we put up a picket fence. We love our home.
I'm so thankful for your attitude. As a landlord of 30+ years, I get so tired of posts promoting the idea that landlords are all awful greedy people. Most landlords I come across are not, but they also don't have a lot of money to spend after paying the mortgage. I'm happy to work with people to help them enjoy the house without making it hard for me to paint over when the tenant leaves. Most of my tenants stay a long time (5+ years), so it really isn't a big amount over time to spend a few hundred dollars making the house cozy for them. 😊 Love LK's videos.
You know, I was horrified when you chose that magnolia white. But you were right! It did exactly what you planned. Not only did it warm the space, but it also made the tiles look newer. And the cabinet makeover is perfect! You have a real talent! ❤
Making your home whether your renting or own your home is the best. Your comfort is worth way more than having difficulty everyday with what you don’t like.
That pole wrap is gold... love that you keep finding ways to repurpose it. It made a huge difference on that cabinet! I have caulk issues in a shower. Your tips are going to really help when I tackle that. Thanks!
A lot of effort, not too much money, but oh, what a difference. It's a great inspiration for people who can't afford major makeovers. You really do have a great talent, and yes, your home is a very special place. Hi from NZ.
As a landlady, I can say for certain that if you talk to your landlord and want to make reasonably priced improvements there's a very good chance you'll get a rent deduction. Ask first! Also, unless CA is VERY different I think the lightswitch by the shower is violating code. Which means your landlord HAS to fix it by law, you can withhold rent until he or she does it.
Yay, it's Sunday and here you are LK!!!! I have rented ON PURPOSE my entire life by choice. I've never had the desire to own. I have always made each and every place I've rented my own. I'm not the kind of person that moves much. I've lived decades in each home. The money I've invested in each of my homes has brought me joy and peace. I love the idea that when something goes wrong I just have to make a phone call and the repair person is here quickly at no further expense to me. I can't imagine having enough money saved for a new roof or driveway paving or gawd forbid new windows. My landlords have always treated me well because I take care of their properties so it's a fair deal. I believe you have to make your home your comfort zone. Now LK you did a fantastic job on the bathtub. I love how the bathroom turned out. It looks terrific and to be honest I like the pink and black tile. Hugs, Jan/Toronto.
@@livingwithlkHi LK! Found your channel not long ago and I really love your content. I’m sure there are a lot of things that I don’t understand about getting sponsorships, but I just wanted to alert you in case you weren’t yet aware that there are some major issues with BetterHelp and a lot of similar therapy companies. They’ve had issues with client privacy and they also seem to really undervalue their therapists- paying them a lot less than the going rate. I think the way that they’re able to hire is that they mislead therapists through their contracting process. I imagine this has to lead to quite a bit of therapist turnover, too (can’t verify this part)?
The cabinet, wow! Can’t believe what a difference that trim made in making it feel vintage and cool. The paint choice is great. I think a mustard or even lemon yellow faux/dried flower would look nice in the vase on the cabinet (something about salmon pink/dark green/yellow really appeals to me!). Love this!
I really loved this bathroom makeover! You did an incredible job working within the constraints of a rental, and your creativity shines through in every detail. The way you embraced the vintage vibe while still making the space feel like your own is inspiring. I especially appreciate how thoughtful you were in choosing colors and materials that not only complement the existing features but also elevate them. It's clear you put a lot of care and effort into this project, and the results are stunning. Thanks for sharing your process and insights - it’s so motivating to see how much of a difference a few renter-friendly changes can make!
I am so excited to see a new video from you! I discovered your channel within the last week or so, and I have been binge-watching old episodes. I love your sense of style, the way you curate found items and use mostly secondhand pieces, and your presentation is also pleasant and soothing. I can’t get enough of your content! Oh, and your home is so so beautiful. Thank you for making such inspiring and enjoyable videos!
@@kathyv3909 Good “problem” to have! I like to have videos going in the background while I’m working on things around the house, so it might even work to do both a project and a video at once! 😆
Hi from Georgia, LK. I’m 74 and renting a home since my husband passed away. My house was built in 1964 and EVERYTHING is original. I have an agreement with my landlord that I would be a permanent tenant if he allowed me to do some upgrades. Could I ever show you befores and afters! Embracing my yellow tiled bathroom, new light fixture, recaulked, painted laminate cabinets, and painted it a soft creamy yellow. I so wish that I had found you earlier. Your ideas are awesome and I am also binge watching!!! Thank you!!!
I think you were exactly right about making the bathroom a nice space for you even though it’s not your property. I owned property for 40 years and was in property management business the same amount of time. So many tenants moved in and basically destroyed everything that I did, no one took pride. No one cared very few anyways. So to see that you are taking pride is very encouraging. I’ve been a homeowner most of my life, but I’ve also been a tenant and I did exactly how you’re doing. Just because a landlord owns a property does not mean that they’re filthy rich. Most try to make it affordable for you in many cases, such as mine. So kudos to you for taking the initiative to make it a comfortable space for you and your sister-in-law!
You are such a good renter! Just the fact that you cut out all that old mildewy caulk on the tub and scrubbed the floors made such a difference. I always say other people’s dirt is not the same as your dirt!☺️ I love the shower curtain and you’re right - the soap dispenser fits the color and vibe of the room. You know your landlord would probably be pleased with all your changes and maybe let you leave all the changes and might give you a discount on your rent considering all the upgrades you did. I remember Drew on Lone Fox did some upgrades to his rented apartment and the landlord loved everything he did. Great job!
You are a fabulous tenant! I hope your landlord appreciates you. Every little change you made, I kept saying to myself, 'That's exactly what I would do'! Brava!
Awesome sauce!!! I would tell anyone wherever you lay your head, make it the best. I did not do that for years, and I see I wasted precious time. Make your place beautiful for you.
Very thoughtful job within your constraints (rental)! And the result is lovely. My pink and GREEN tiled bathroom, which is a lot larger than yours, was a puzzle. I finally decided to lean into color. I put in a black tile floor and then went to town with bright colors-framing the mirror in orange, getting bright yellow (more gold than yellow) towels etc. from IKEA, and black and white patterned things, like shower curtain, bathmat, and runner rug (flat weave, cotton). My bathroom looks like a Mexican fiesta.
Your thoughts on loving your home, no matter if its rented or owned, is SO true. It's your home where you seek comfort, joy and safety. Makeovers can be a source of pride and self accomplishment and can in turn help us with our self confidence and our worth. Thanks for sharing your ideas and encouragement.
You did such a great job!!! Looks so fresh & clean now. Little disappointed you didn't opt for a moodier paint like the burgundy / maroon 😂 but the colour you chose looks fantastic!
My husband and I have moved 8 times in 11 years, and we have chosen to rent all but 1 time. We keep up our properties as if they are our own. I won't take a kitchen out or anything, but I'd paint a wall or change a shower head or light in the house. I want the home to feel like my home, not just a house we rent. Thank you for all your videos! We love them all! ❤😊
Hello LK! I couldn't agree with you more about maintaining the home for mental, physical and emotional health. Like you I am also about to renovate a yellow tiled bathroom. Thank goodness the floors are white with black diamond tiles. The entire house is painted in a neutral to creamy white which is not complimenting the wood doors - makes the paint look yellow and gloomy during the cloudy days. Thanks for the inspiration and for mentioning the BetterHelp line. I also go to counseling sessions through a different source but it's all the same.
Thank you! And Omg yellow tile sounds amazing! Haha I was saying I wish my tile was yellow instead of pink and black. But I do love yellow. Good luck with your home it sounds fantastic!
The thing that wowed me was the plant on top of the medicine cabinet with the picture frame next to it. What a simple touch with such a weighted impact. Nice!
The wall tiles looks more peach than pink on my phone, but the darker green you paired with it looks great, from what I can see. That clean grout on the floor is a real show-stopper!! Wow, did that ever come out well! Your paint color choices really did the job, too. Congrats on a beautiful bathroom. You are so talented.
How do you not have a million subscribers?! Seriously great channel. Fun, informative, good design and all without that pretentious ego many other interiors influencers have. Keep it up!!
This was a very good makeover! I subscribed. I like your style and your logic. Make everywhere you live look better than it was for just a little cost. For cracked tiles, I used the exact same color artists acrylic paint to paint over the crack to make it less visible. The previous suggestion to frame the mirror was also a good idea and a long rug in front of the vanity will make the room appear larger…Great Job!
You might want to frame your mirror with same wood stain you used for medicine cabinet. For floor you might consider painting each oxigon tile by alternating white or cream and black.
You did a wonderful job. I must admit I would be stuck for ideas when trying to improve a pink bathroom, but the paint colour, the towels, the cabinet - all look super. I think it’s nice that you are decorating your home with respect to the original age of the house; I wish more people did that. Also, it is always worth making one’s home as attractive and comfortable as possible, whether it’s rented or owned.
Hey beautiful happy Sunday fairly new ti you and loving your videos. I have a 1958 home that was neglected 😢 I have no plug in my bathroom 😊 you did a fantastic job looks gorgeous 🧡💗🌈🦋💙🤎💛
You have done such a great job, especially removing the old calk. You have also inspired me. I’m not a renter. I am definitely going to do something’s in my house I was hesitant to do. Thank you for sharing your journey. You truly are inspiring others, like me. Thank you
Everything old is new again ! I grew up in a house built in 1910 and our bathroom was also pink and black tile. My parents redid it in the seventies, but I actually love those tiles ! ❤
„What works for the house“ yes! I’m in a brand new modern build now and I’ve had to change my flea market ways. Still me and my style but more minimal, polished, and geometric than I’ve ever worked with - which makes sense when one lives down the street from a Bauhaus exhibit! I also have to say I love that you integrate deep cleaning with your makeovers. So important! Also, to those who say you’re wasting money spending on a place you don’t own is just bizarre to me. I can’t imagine thinking the place I live in every day is disposable and unworthy of investment. I was raised moving often and we always left the places better than we found them. I didn’t realize until now how that habit gave me a sense of home whoever I may be.
I was born in the 50's and our house had pink and black tile too! My dad built our house and my mom chose the pink and black! Wonderful memory to see that again!
Very nicely done. Love the color you picked for the walls. The transformation to the white cabinet looks so good. Very well done. Now you won’t cringe when using this room 😊
Iam a renter redoing my bathroom thank you for the info you did such a beautiful job. I can appreciate your soap dispenser finding something perfect is priceless ❤
Amazing job! Love your content as i think it appeals to renters but also homeowners who just cant afford large, expensive renovations. Its a reminder that you can work with what you have ❤
Wow, well done! Loved seeing you attack the grout and tile 😍 I wonder what the cabinet would look like the same colour as the wall? LOVE that you also painted the ceiling! Love your mindset ✨
Just found your channel and really enjoyed this video. Plan to do a bit of binge watching. The bathroom outcome is remarkable. So clean and crisp and quietly cheerful. You're so right, the sum of the small things together made a huge impact. Job well done! FYI. A TSP soak will make paint slip right off of hardware without the stink. Removes mold as well.
Wow, new here. I LOVe it. I especially appreciated how you were leaning towards a paint color based on preference, but then you changed your mind because it better suited the atmosphere.
Thank you for this creative makeover ❤ I really loved this one as most makeovers these days are so intense and kind of impossible for most viewers I think but these simple yet effective makeovers are just like a breath of fresh air 🎉
Very nice improvements. It's amazing what a deep clean will do, the floor looks so much better. I like the cabinet refresh and the green rub/towels does take away from so much pink. Considering you had to work around the tiles, it looks good. I'm in a 1945 craftsman style house. My bathroom has 4"x4" green plastic tiles, on the lower half. Luckily green is 'my" color or choice. Next month will be taking out the cast iron tub and making a walk-in shower for mobility issues. FYI tub surround tip - I had the same issue, trying to keep the area around the tub caulked. A handyman suggested quarter round trim, white, plastic and installed it around the area that's normally caulked. Of course it was cleaned and caulked first, then the quarter round installed and caulked above and below the trim. That was 7 years ago and haven't had to re-caulk once in all these years, it's held up perfectly and looks so much more finished than just caulking alone would be.
so many creative solutions, love it!! I personally would've done black accents instead of wood but the end result is beautiful! you should definitely use that same outlet cover to replace the light switch cover!!!
I've recently returned to my growing up house from 1956 - all original features, including tile and fixtures. I don't want to change them, but I don't want the overall feeling to be neglected. Seeing you do your own spin using what was already there and part of the house may help nudge me to get to work.
Good on you for investing in your space while you are living there, and although it's not yours, I like why you are making it yours. There is always something satisfying about making something look better, both for you and whomever lives there after you. Sort of like paying it forward, which I believe comes back to you in kind.
Love it!!! My house was built in 1949....pink and maroon tile. I have same problem with tub grout and light switch cover. Im totally going to copy some of your ideas. Thanks I'm inspired to freshen up my bathroom now❤
Love original bathrooms! Great job using the wire brush tool on the floor! Looks great! Love the rechargeable light very cool for older homes with lack of outlets…your home is really looking sweet!
I have always painted and fixed things in rental properties because I had to live their. I enjoy a cozy peaceful home. So I also did renter friendly things to make me more comfortable
Great result! I totally agree that having a home where you feel good about it and have made it your own with your style is so important. It really did make a great impact on the tired old bathroom.
You have soooo inspired me to try similar ideas in my own bathroom. Absolutely love the mix of clean crisp updates and warm inviting little artistic touches. I look forward to your videos so much!!
Love this bathroom makeover ❤ I recently painted the walls in the bathroom, changed all the hardware and added a few decor pieces to make it feel more me. Little TLC in the space you live in is totally worth it
I personally ❤❤❤those beautiful colors! The house I grew up in, built in the 50’s had “Holiday Turquoise” sinks, tub and toilet ( if I’m remembering correctly). A few houses down, they had a bathroom completely outfitted in black! But I love your pink and black!!
As I watch your video, I had all these lovely thoughts I wanted to say about all the cool things and hard work you do. But by the end of the video, all I can say is you’re my “thrift-box DIY sister” and we’d be the best of friends! LOVE how you make it work and your style is just like mine - amazing! Great work, Cali twin! Love from a Texas girlie! 🥰🥰🥰
It turned out so good! Fixing those tiny bumps and holes, mouldy caulking and dirty looking tiles really changed up the space. These things can take a lot of time but I think it’s worth it and most people can do this stuff in their own bathrooms. Makes me want to try fixing up some of this stuff in my own bathroom. Ps. I’m an Early American stain enjoyer, but now I want to try out honey next time I have a staining project!!
Fantastic result! I'm glad you decided to extend the paint color on the ceiling, it looks beautiful. I've had to recaulk a bathtub and it is an icky and time-consuming job to get rid of the old caulk. You did a great job cleaning that and the floor grout.
Looks great! When I seal/caulk anything, I just use my finger, wetting it first and along the way, helps control it so you don't have to much clean up. Another fab job! 😍🤎
It looks beautiful! I love those old tiles! I'm really happy to see you embrace them. I don't know how exactly you'd do it, but I would be tempted to use the trim from the medicine cabinet around the mirror also? Or maybe stack it with a thicker trim. But I like framed mirrors, and I don't know that that would be very period accurate for the style.
I'm a retired interior designer. You took the right approach by embracing what you could not change. It looks really good.
wow thank you so much!

I was thinking painting the walls black, but you lightened it up beautifully. You have such good tips and ideas
How do you not have a million subscribers?! Seriously great channel. Fun, informative, good design and all without that pretentious ego many other interiors influencers have. Keep it up!!
Aw thank you so much! I appreciate it!
The paint was a surprise, never would have gone that way and it looks great! Enjoying the final result.
Omgosh! That turned out beautifully! I wish my 1959 pink bathroom had that salmon tone! Mine is bubble gum pink!
I love the ones where they take the two colours and go blocky - the dramatic pink and black ones.
Love the OG light fixture.
The light fixture just looks so much better now without that blue paint! haha
It looks so good. I love how you accepted what you could and could not change.
Hey beautiful happy Sunday fairly new ti you and loving your videos. I have a 1958 home that was neglected 😢 I have no plug in my bathroom 😊 you did a fantastic job looks gorgeous 🧡💗🌈🦋💙🤎💛
thanks! i love the little lamp I used because the plug is not necessary as it’s just rechargeable!
@@livingwithlk nice work looks so beautiful and has the character still wish you were close to me so you can help me lol
MDF definitely did not exist then
„What works for the house“ yes!
Thanks for sharing your ideas to use what is already available and making it look retro in addition to stylish
I love how you list all the issues you want to tackle at the start of these makeovers. Fab work!! 👏👏
This is phantastic! I have a wood cabinet with the slattet bamboo in my bathroom and it made a cold place much more cozy!
It looks great. You can fit a washcloth on the other end of the the towel bar by the sink. I think the tiles look more peach than pink.
Very nicely done. Love the color you picked for the walls. The transformation to the white cabinet looks so good. Very well done. Now you won’t cringe when using this room 😊
You’re good! Like everything you did to renovate this bathroom
So true about loving the space you are in, whether you own or not. Thank you. It is worth it.
Iam a renter redoing my bathroom thank you for the info you did such a beautiful job. I can appreciate your soap dispenser finding something perfect is priceless ❤
Right! Thank you! : )
@livingwithlk Yw! When I find the perfect in my eyes anything 4 my project I'm showing it like a newborn lol
Absolutely stunning work. The green is the perfect shade to add. You did miracles with the tub 🎉❤
You did an awesome job making this bathroom look fresh, clean, and stylish!!!
I completely agree even as a renter making the space some place you love to be is essential.
The original sink and counter is gorgeous! I love the makeover 😊
Your color and design choices make me wish I had a vintage pink and black bath…. You really have made it spectacular!!
such a wonderful compliment, thank you!!
Wow! Amazing transformation! That tile is really pretty when you accentuate it correctly!
I totally agree! Thanks so much :)
Hey beautiful I need to know what that outlet was called when you don’t have one in the bathroom I didn’t see the link to that one 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
I love the transformations! I only dislike the chunky vase on top of the cabinet, but that's my taste. wonderful result
Love it!!! My house was built in 1949....pink and maroon tile. I have same problem with tub grout and light switch cover. Im totally going to copy some of your ideas. Thanks I'm inspired to freshen up my bathroom now❤
You made a wonderful color choice for the bathroom walls. Not easy, so bravo!
Love original bathrooms! Great job using the wire brush tool on the floor! Looks great! Love the rechargeable light very cool for older homes with lack of outlets…your home is really looking sweet!
Thanks so much!
This IS my bathroom. I've got a mood board and a plan for it, so this is amazing seeing you refresh your space ❤
oh amazing!!
Adding a wood frame around the mirror would be cute and fit the style!
I have always painted and fixed things in rental properties because I had to live their. I enjoy a cozy peaceful home. So I also did renter friendly things to make me more comfortable
So great that you worked with what you had to keep and styled it beautifully
Great result! I totally agree that having a home where you feel good about it and have made it your own with your style is so important. It really did make a great impact on the tired old bathroom.
Amazing transformation! Excellent design choices. Thanks so much for the inspiration I needed to move forward with my own projects. 👍❤️ God Bless 🙏
So glad!
That paint made the world of difference
You did a great job. I really like how you fixed up the white cabinet.
You have soooo inspired me to try similar ideas in my own bathroom. Absolutely love the mix of clean crisp updates and warm inviting little artistic touches. I look forward to your videos so much!!
Thanks so much Shelley!
Beautiful the wall color totally changes the vibe 🥰
Yes. Excellent comments
I'm doing some light reno in bathroom
Love this bathroom makeover ❤ I recently painted the walls in the bathroom, changed all the hardware and added a few decor pieces to make it feel more me. Little TLC in the space you live in is totally worth it
I personally ❤❤❤those beautiful colors! The house I grew up in, built in the 50’s had “Holiday Turquoise” sinks, tub and toilet ( if I’m remembering correctly).
A few houses down, they had a bathroom completely outfitted in black! But I love your pink and black!!
Ok turquoise would be so cool!!
I would never remove the tile. I love it!! You did a great job!
I love that! Thank you!!
@@livingwithlk Welcome! Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
The makeover turned out super cute. I love your approach.
I can really see why you wanted to make your bathroom feel really clean and fresh and it is really transformed 😊
That shower curtain is soooo good with the tile👌
Fantastic result! I'm glad you decided to extend the paint color on the ceiling, it looks beautiful. I've had to recaulk a bathtub and it is an icky and time-consuming job to get rid of the old caulk. You did a great job cleaning that and the floor grout.
You restored the space very nicely. Great job!
Looks great! When I seal/caulk anything, I just use my finger, wetting it first and along the way, helps control it so you don't have to much clean up. Another fab job! 😍🤎
Thank you so much for this video. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do with my pink bathroom. I love your channel!
