    Excellent vid as always, you continue to provide a great service to the B58 community 👍
    I have a M140i, currently Stage2, considering going Stage2+ this year.
    Are there any benefits of using a Dorch Stage1 over the TU HPFP?
    And would the Dorch Stage1 produce a slightly different power/torque curve compared to the TU?
    Future plans to perhaps put into consideration of the HPFP choice.....undecided if I will be going Stage3 or not, if I do it would be a smaller hybrid turbo, possibly the LIttco L520.

    I have a TU pump ready to fit, but *_I have a question_* ....After a little story/rant sorry:
    I previously asked a well regarded BMW/Mini specialist to fit the TU pump during my car's service. He was at the point of bolting it to the head and called me to say he was apprehensive of torquing it down. He reckoned that, because the TU pump has a thicker flat bottomed plate vs the stock pump having a thinner plate and indentations around the bolt holes (to accomodate tall cone shaped o-rings on the gasket), it would require more than 12NM to fully seat the pump in the gasket and be leak free.
    As he didn't want to risk stripping the threads, trying to get it to seal, he didn't fit it (even after watching your tutorial vid); proceeded to re-fit the old pump and charge me 2 hours labour on top of my service bill 😡
    It was suggested that if there's a TU gasket (which there is) he would be happy to fit the pump with the 'correct' gasket (costing me another 2 hours labour).
    As a TU gasket was pennies I bought one, so I could see whether it had the 'all important' thinner o-rings (which it does, they're flat not conical). The issue is: the outer shape is not the same as the gen1 and I think it will be incompatible with my cylinder head. Of course I won't know for sure until the pump is removed again.
    As I'm not paying someone to do a job twice, I've decided to fit it myself once I have a day off with nice weather. It's just the 'issue' he raised, is now worrying me the longer I think about it.
    What do I do?
    Do the original gasket 'cones' compress easily enough so the outer gasket seals up fine at 12NM of torque?
    It seems everyone and their gran have fitted these hassle free and I'm the only one stressing out! 😳🙄🤪

    • @LuizPauloDT
      @LuizPauloDT ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like overreaction. I have just fitted a TU pump and there is plenty of thread engagement, even with the thicker flange. Thread striping aint a problem for sure. Most important thing IMO is to tighten it 90 degrees max per bolt, alternating to not damage the shaft. Acc to ISTA, when working on the fuel system, it is also recommended to cover the ignition coils (remove if necessary), as fuel contamination on the silicone hose can damage them. Just follow Kevin's DIY and send it!

    Hey Kern, I was looking to get your opinion on whats going on with my 2021 Supra. The only mod I have is a Active Autowerks catless downpipe and am experiencing a decent amount of smoke pouring out of the exhaust at random points usually when the vehicle is about to come to a stop or is at a stop, and the car only has just over 1000 miles on it. Do you think this could be related to the PCV system?

    • @kern417
      @kern417  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It could be. Do you have any codes or anything? And you're saying the car itself only has a thousand miles, or it's been a thousand miles since you installed the downpipe.

    • @dennybrows9916
      @dennybrows9916 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could just be the downpipe itself. When it reaches those extreme temperatures for the first time, smoke can come out, typically white smoke. After driving it around, the smoke will go away completely

I for sure have codes for deleting the cat but I have not read them as of yet, I do have access to snap on scan tools though. @@irobtheweedmam depending on your tuner, they offer e30, e50, or even full ots e85 maps. So run whatever the map is designed for. If you're running e30 tune, stick with e30.

    If I'm only running 91 pump gas on a gen1 B58 340i with no plans to upgrade from the stock turbo - is there any benefit to upgrading to a TU pump?

      Not really

      I’ve noticed kern is really short when answering comments. If you’re on MHD you can use the stage 2 hpfp map if you have the TU installed and you would notice a decent power gain. Don’t know why he said you wouldn’t.

      Mhd does not have a stage 2 hpfp map for 91 octane. Pay attention to the details.

    Sorry if this a dumb question. Thinking of getting this upgrade for my M240i. Can someone explain what a HPFP does and if my economy will be reduced by installing one?

    Hi, I have a 540i and I recently upgraded it to a stage 1, running 370whp. I also substituted spark plugs to new stock ones and cleaned up fuel injectors. However recently an intermittent failure occurs, mainly after after continuous time of flat out driving, in which the engine fails and the car gets to emergency mode. I still didn’t get to the cause of the issue, but I suspect it may be something related with a hpfp. Do you think upgrading it to a b58tu would make the system safer and avoid potential issues? What else could I do to improve reliability?

      you need to diagnose the problem before throwing parts at it. scan for codes. run a log. and go from there.

      @@kern417 thx for replying, it has been now a week I left it on a specialist to get me the diagnosis and they still couldn’t find the issue or replicate the failure 😂😂😂😂 I will keep digging it and for sake of curiosity will let you know what was it when we find out
