    Yeah the windstar swap involves way more modifying. I did that one first, good improvement over stock. Tried the f-150 manifold and it made a bigger improvement, top end felt the same, but the torque is nuts. And much easier to install but had to chop a hood to close it, because even if i remove the Idle air control valve the manifold is still 3 inches above the hood line. But after porting F-150 manifold and it making the difference it does, sub 6 second 0-60, cant really see myself going back to the Windstar. But i can say our stock manifold is trash.

    • @itsnotan8
      @itsnotan8  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Very nice man. That's badass. I never considered the f150 intake because I wanted to keep the stock hood. I am interested in porting the heads as well as lower intake, but for the time being it'll say as it is since it's a daily driver.

    • @TheVulcan
      @TheVulcan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah there are trade offs windstar manifold, difficult to intstall, limited portability, fits under stock hood. F150 manny easier to install, only modding i did besides hood is PCV hose, and making the tps wire longer. need new hood(drove without hood for 3 days like a honda boy until i could cut it) and you can port the hell out of it. I dont think porting heads will do to much because of the 2 intake ports per cylinder ive seen dynos online of it not doing alot. It already has great airflow. The only thing worth porting is the lower manifold, and upper. What's holding it back is the cam. The stock cam i believe is the same one from the 150hp single port 3.8L they just slaped on higher flow heads. Thats why the most common mods on these are cams.

      @@TheVulcan I didn't realize that f150 intake was that much easier. No hood is roadkill style haha, helps with over heating. I might pick up a junkyard lower intake just to mess around with porting. I did a little research and I found the single port cam is slightly better than the split port cam, and the 4.2 f150 cam is better than all of them.

      @@feellnfroggy Those have single port heads, ours have split port. Plus ours have returnless fuel systems and those have return systems. It would be perfect for a 94-98 Mustang though.

    Not too shabby. I love the car and what you've done so far very interesting how to compare videos around TH-cam especially being hard to find V6 channels. This is super helpful being that I went from a V8 F150 to this 2004 white V6 40th anniversary which is completely different and new to me. But also nice to actually see and hear similar differences that I've discovered with my car I have now set up be, and to find out what I can do more to improve when the time comes. My wife tells me to start a channel for my mustang and or few projects to get me away from explaining it to her in grave detail when shes completely clueless coming from a classic car father lol. I know there's a lot that goes into that kind of work to do that sort of lengthy trial and error and hours of editing. But have piqued the interest and or thoughts about doing something for the V6 era Mustangs because it is extremely hard to find any sort of true yet not boring examples or absolute cheezee and off wish. Just finding time to start somewhere is expensive when having a household of 6 not including pets. So with all that rambling on being said hats off to you sir, hope the good work continues. And note aside has anyone found, to my knowledge any 3.9 emblems? Or any kind, not wish knock offs or autozone peel n stick bs? I cannot fathom why there wasnt one in the first place, but why hasn't someone made one already? Or is it just me?

    Can the intake be reversed so the input is in the back? Doing a jetboat and don't want things sticking out front, have room over the jet for intake.
    I am going 3.8 because it is ~150lbs lighter than my iron 5.0 at 220hp.and a plastic intake should save another 20lbs.

    This is jank as all hell. Not worth the time, effort, modification, relocation, and if u look the bottom intake ports on the lower manifold are tiny as balls, u can only get as much flow as they can handle and the engineers clearly put stock intake over ur windstar for many reasons. Thats why they have the degree. Somt redo the wheel

    Nice video! I want to do this, but my area tests for emissions so I need to keep the EGR, IAC, etc. I have a scoop on mine so I can hide the hole :) I was wondering, how difficult is it to keep the IAC and EGR? Do I need any speciality parts? I can do basic metalwork so fabbing a bracket or simple spacer is not a problem for me.

    • @itsnotan8
      @itsnotan8  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My car would pass emissions if I didn't remove the cats. The iac is the thing with the big blue hose attached to it. It needs to be relocated, all you need is some kind of thick enough metal you can drill and tap holes in to mount the iac to, and be able to screw in a nipple or hose barb for the inlet and outlet of the iac(take a look at my Windstar update video to see how I changed it). I used 1/8in thick by 2in wide aluminum bar stock. I wish I used 1/4in. The egr I also kept. You need the Windstar's egr bracket to keep it. The bracket is lower so it'll fit under the intake. The egr tube coming from the exhaust will have to be heated cherry red and bent to push it lower to it's new mounting spot. Heads up, it'll break easily.

There is a very similar mod that can be done on my BMW motor that makes intakes for 92-96 motors worth $250 bux. Only for me it's so common there's even aftermarket support that makes it a "plug and play"(minus the tune) modification. You could have gotten 1 if not two oil catch cans. I noticed that as well and once I put it on the oil catch can on the driver side I noticed a lot of oil was caught within the first two days then the oil accumulation was drastically decreased.
    I put an oil catch can on the intake box side and there has never been oil there. Neither of the cans have a breather on it but I think the one with the air box needs a catch can with a breather filter on top just a guess gonna but a cheap one see if it performs better.
    I have used just breather filters they work nothing wrong with it but the oil catch can is better possibly.
    You can easily delete your egr by going to the hardware store and buying a pipe that fits I think it’s 3/8in not sure maybe a 1/4in and get a cap to block it off and as for where the screws go I ignored them it was on a previous car but if it’s a vacuum it wouldn’t hurt getting a vacuum manifold and diverting it into the crankcase as a main source of vacuum.

      Cool. Thanks for your input. Yeah, I've thought about getting an oil catch can before but never did. There are no name, exact copies of Mishimoto catch cans on ebay/amazon for 20-30 bucks. I think those would definitely be worth looking at. I thought about putting breathers on the valve covers instead too, but again just never did haha.

    Do you just buy the upper intake manifold or do you need to buy the lower too.. my bad still learning haha

      Just the upper. The lowers are basically the same so you don't need it.

      @@jasonpooler6811 The lowers are sightly different I believe between the Windstar and Mustang, but you don't need the Windstar's lower. The Windstar upper will bolt right up to the Mustang's lower.

    You are correct it is the same 3.8 as a fwd windstar with one huge difference, the bell housing are smaller so it is a different block altogether.... Ask me how I know😬

      So those are the only gaskets you used throughout the whole process ? Also were there any vaccum lines u needed to relocate ? Im in canada so i am removing my egr valve as i dont really need it. But i plan on placing the iac valve ontop and changing my hood so it fits

    • @itsnotan8
      @itsnotan8  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-ue5xb4th5i I did cut out cork gaskets for the throttle body and angled spacer. If you're gonna get an after market hood and use the Windstar iac on top of the manifold, you'll have to use the Windstar throttle body and gasket. The Windstar throttle body has inlet port for the iac. If the hood clears the iac, you definitely won't need the angled spacer, it's just for clearance. Not necessarily relocate, but find a place to plug into the manifold, just the ones I said in the video. The two on the passenger side, one for the HVAC blend doors and charcoal filter in the fender. On the driver's side the brake booster, pcv valve and fuel pressure regulator(the little black box on the fuel rail).
