  • I am upgrading my flux core welder to the Vulcan MigMax 215. Join me for the unboxing, quick review and my first weld with the MigMax.
    This gives me the option of 120 or 240 volts and the ability to go mig with gas or fluxcore wire...

    We love our 215 had it for 3 years .One great welder that we use almost every day. Get rid of the chipper hammer and get the heavy duty slag wire wheel from harbor freight it will save u a ton of time

    That sheet metal gauge is really nice the whole unit looks awesome. The chart on the inside lid is the most detailed I have ever seen. Great video and thank you for sharing friend.

    Nicely done. You're vids just keep getting better. Your camera angles were awesome and showed great detail. I'm impressed with the amount of info on the chart too! Can't wait to see your comparison video on both of the welders.

    That's a heck of an upgrade. You should do a comparison between the old welder and the new one. I know it's not a fair comparison. I would still like to see how differently the welds look and hold up.

    • @TheBeardedGiant
      @TheBeardedGiant  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will do some comparisons by using the MigMax on 120V, it will be a fairer comparison. I just want a little practice and I will make some.

    Nice presentation and good information. All I can say is skip all the stuff about the box and packing. Who cares about the box, it doesn't weld anything.

    Two skills I really want to learn... Welding and blacksmithing. I found a class near my parents in Kent, England, which teaches you the basics of both but then Covid lockdown put paid to my plans. Hopefully I can start soon. Thanks for reviewing. I may not be able to buy this model here in England but it's given me an idea of the type of things I need to look for in a bit of kit. Cheers.

    WOOOOOHOOOOO!! When you can, pick up a bottle of C25 Argon/CO2 and it'll change your life!!! Gas-less wire feed definitely has it's place, but I guarantee you'll shine with some shielding gas and a bit of practice!!! Serious amateur hobby welder speaking from experience here!

      Getting a bottle with C25 is on my todo list. Thanks for the enthusiasm...

    • @TheBeardedGiant

      Dahut I like Lincoln wire and get it from Home Depot and Amazon, most other stuff I get from Harbor Freight. I will most likely get C25 gas from AirGas

    • @shawnllorca4768
      @shawnllorca4768 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I lucked out and got a Millermatic 252 and run C25 I got from Praxair. I actually found the bottle used on marketplace for like $80 and I just had to pay the fill and hydro test since it was out of date. Came out way cheaper than buying a bottle from them. I think alot of places do rentals too, but it just didn't make any sense to me, seemed cheaper to just buy the bottle and pay for the fills as needed. But yea, this 252 welds night and day difference from my chinese mig running flux core. Never again lol

Once you get the argon/CO2 figured out you will really enjoy your new welder.Have you got a good helmet? I had the cheap HF, then migrated to one from Lowes.Huge difference. Sweet, Andrew! I must not have had notifications turned-on for your channel. I have a small "Pocket Mig," which does flux core, but I have a CO2 bottle. It weighs a lot, even though the transformer is wound with aluminum wire. The regulator was leaking out of a port on the bottom recently when I used it, and I was thinking of upgrading because my bottle will have to be hydro-tested anyway. Mostly, when I need something welded I just bring it to work, but I really want to make one of those small helicopters, so I'm also looking at TIG.

    • @TheBeardedGiant
      @TheBeardedGiant  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the vulcan omnipro 220 for $880 with coupon. it's digital and there is NO chart, it's actually way easier to use. I was confused when I couldn't find the chart on the lid but now that I understand what is happening the chart and those manual settings on your 215 make NO sense at all. for flux core mode they do ask you what thickness the metal is but in the end there is only 2 actual settings, wire feed speed and voltage, that's all you need to control the weld, other than your hand controlling the rate that you move the gun, the angle and the distance from the wire to the surface. and of coarse the pattern that you use to make the weld which is a part of the rate that the gun moves

    • @TheBeardedGiant
      @TheBeardedGiant  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 220 sounds pretty cool. My 215 is still working for me as a hobbyist.

      onjoFilms I know it’s their middle of the road unit. I am not made of money so if I was planning on buying the Vulcan and saw the Titanium line up come out, I might be second guessing getting the Vulcan because I am just a hobby/diy welder like him and probably would have opted for the middle of the road unit, where the Chicago electric units are very low end and the Vulcan is aimed at the prosumer.

  • @onjofilms
    @onjofilms 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool. I'm a noob too. Dumb question, do you look at the weld through the lens and it immediately darkens, or do you close your eyes for just the start. I know they say 1/25000 of a second, but
    that means for a split second you are looking at the full brightness of the weld. Wouldn't that damage the eyes eventually. Dumb I know.

    • @TheBeardedGiant
      @TheBeardedGiant  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know if the cumulative effects of that 1/25000 exposure would be detrimental or not. If you are comfortable closing your eyes for the initial spark then go for it. You probably are wise to do so. I like to see the the puddle form, I will keep my eyes open for now

      Well let's just say I may know what I'm talking about when it comes to welding, having been a certified welder for 13 or so years the quality of the machine makes a MASSIVE difference. When you go from using a meh quality machine in the 125 to a much higher quality machine there is going to be a learning curve when you pick up the new stinger. Its gonna require a different style of running the bead. Last weekend I fired up the ol Lincoln 100 and did some flux core welding on a mud truck and it took a few beads to adjust from what I'm used to. A little practice and the bearded giant will surprise you
