  • Titanium Vulcan welders real world duty cycle MIG test, it this video I tested both of these welder on 220 volts. I was in the process of building 1 of 8 pneumatic glue press and figured it was a good opportunity to run both welders on a duty cycle test, both machines worked great!

      Wanted to say thanks for the Omni 220 reviews . I just sold my old miller 185 (welded good but getting old and only might) and bought a Omni pro 220 . Want to get the Tig setup ( review on those parts and any suggestions ) and spool gun for aluminum later on .

      Mike festiva Hey Mr. Festiva I'm a aspiring welder just getting into school I'm looking to get the Titanium Unlimited 200 for a medium/small scale shop welder. Would you be able to do a "real world" stick test with both or even just the Titanium to see the "true duty cycles" my biggest concern is that the Titanium won't have as good of a duty cycle as I might need but I can't afford the Vulcan so it's really my only option. Thank you for your quality videos Sir.

    I bought the Titanium 200 two days ago and just used it yesterday. WOW what a blast. I have NEVER MIG welded before and i bought a 2 inch by 36 inch strip of 1/8 inch steel to just do some practice on. I cut the strip into several inch pieces. Using 120v I then clamped one strip to the table and held the other at a 90 degree so it looked like angle iron. I was amazed at how easy it was and wish there was a way to upload a picture here i have 0 welding training. After 4 test runs i did quite well. Even my 1st run was not awful. I'm VERY happy and impressed with this welder. If you can think of a way i can upload a few weld pictures to let folks know how easy this welder is for a NOVICE welder let me know i would be happy to upload them to help you promote these units. Again yesterday was the very 1st time i ever welded. I just watch several TH-cam channels an weld techniques. Below is the TH-cam channel i got my technique from. Does it work for evey weld i have no idea I'm not a welder at all, just started yesterday but ill tell you what between the Titanium 200 and the technique listed below i was excited to send pictures of my welds to my friends. Are they perfect, no but you would be hard pressed to think they came from an inexpensive unit like the Titanium 200 in the hands of a guy that started MIG literally yesterday
    Watch video for a short to the point way to MIG weld successfully

      That’s great Johnny! I’m really happy to hear you got the Titanium 200 and your having a good time learning to weld, I do wish there was a way that you could post some photos on the comment but I have not seen a way to do that yet. Now you need to find a good source for salvaging some scrap metal for practice and building some projects. I’m planning on posting a video in that next few weeks that give some good information on places to look for free or cheap metal for projects. Take care and I’m glad your happy with your new welder! Welding is definitely a great thing to know how to do. Take care :)

    Hello Mike, when I learned to weld years ago, the first thing we were taught was to make sure you had all the material you needed before you started. The best lesson ever learned from a moldy boss who I thought was a real pain in the ASS. Never forgot the lesson to this day. You are trying to show 100 percent duty cycle and you run out of wire and the other spool is the worn type. "PLEASE LORD GIVE ME STRENGTH" is all i am going to say and I am sure you know very well what else is going on in my mind. Now let's get back to the test !!! The weld look right on. The welders are just light duty even though they did the job. Thank you for showing us all on real testing usage in the real world. Look forward on the 120 volts machines. Keep on making videos Mike.

    I guess I'm a beginner to, sort of! I started welding about 3 yrs ago, I bought the 90 amp flux core and still have one, which is the second one because I over did it with the first one, O-well. I built a engine hoist with the first one and I'm in a project of reinforcing a Harbor Freight 10x20 carport canopy. I want to buy the Titanium 200 and learn to mig and tig as well and stick weld also, I think this will be a great step up from where I am now! Still learning and still watching people that has talent, Thanks for your time and video's.

    I wouldn't say I'm a professional fabricator (especially since my over head and vertical up can use some improvement haha) but I have been welding for 8 years now and the only time I weld is at work, and i don't want to spend several thousands on a machine I will only use sometimes. So I am very grateful for people like you who take their time to do this. I have been looking at getting either one of these two and I believe I'm going with vulcan just cause I like the color HAHA! thanks for the great video.

    when people argue about the blue or red welders.. "we all know what brands those are" they aren't being realistic. they are brand myopic. i would buy one of these titanium or vulcan models any day of the week, #1 your saving a lot of money #2 your getting the same quality welds.. and #3 your throwing your ego in the bed of your truck where it belongs :) i say save the cash and then head to harbor freight and buy a titanium or a vulcan.. i prefer the titanium just because they are smaller , lighter and less expensive yet they still produce great welds.. will it last more than 10 years? well maybe.. maybe not but i guess that all depends on how much use you put it through. but even if i only get 8-10 years of use out of it.. thats worth the investment.

      That brings memories of the senior tech's at my old job. Their egos was the size of their tool boxes, but when they got school with a Roody Pooh Voltmeter I still use up to this day I would asked them what good is a fluke if you dont know its potential. I know there are better multimeters out there but now I need a scope. Having said that I think I know what I'm buying
      The question is "Is it green or is it ..."

      Thanks for your great comment, I appreciate it! Man I think you will be happy with your new welder, I wish I could have started out with this welder! I have had some crap welders years ago when starting out and I’m positive the Learning curve would have been a lot less with a good welder like the Titanium. Because you just got it I’m fairly sure you probably are going to start with flux wire, that’s completely fine, but down the road I recommend buying a small bottle of shielding gas, Argon/ CO2 blend, you don’t need a big bottle, the one I use is I think a size 55? I ran flux for years, it will work fine, the down side for me was splattery looking welds, slag and a lot more smoke. Welding with shielding gas is a lot cleaner and you can see your welds easier without cleaning to see how they look. Especially for practicing.
      Ps the TH-cam channel (weldingtipsandtricks) has some really good info and the guy is really a good dude. Take care and enjoy your new hobby!

    After watching your videos with these two welders i was impressed. I have been looking for a welder that fits what I'm looking for which is a multi purpose welder that can MIG,TIG,STICK etc.., light so its easy to transport, 120v and 240, well equipped. Price was not a huge issue for me but why spend 3 times as much if and when you don't have to. For me it's just for things that need fixing around the house and property. So i felt these really fit the bill. I went with the Green Titanium 200. I just bought it today but i wanted to comment to let you know, we really enjoy your TH-cam channel and i personally used your feedback and experience to help with my decision. With that... thanks and thumbs up to you.... i look forward to you doing stick work with them AND TIG

Again it’s always real nice and encouraging for me to know that my viewers are interested and are getting something worth while out of my videos. I think you made a great choice on welders! Because of the compact size and light weight of the Titanium welder I take it to my work every week now, I can’t bring myself to using there junky Lincoln 140 anymore, Haha!

I really appreciate it :) The way I feel about welders is I don’t care as much about what color they are, it’s more about how they weld, also I feel if someone has always wanted to weld but couldn’t afford it before, now these welders make it much more possible for regular people to have the ability to learn something new and helpful. Thanks again for checking out my videos! Take care

    Perfect videos! I'm so tired of all the partisan comparisons people do on welding gear it's refreshing to see something less one sided. I'm a multi craft utility operator, in other-words jack of all trades master of none- we do it all, including welding some times. The typical professional welder is a one trick pony. Nothing wrong with that but when you only have one trick you become a zealot. Nice to see someone with a DIY "knack" using the HF gear as it's intended and not bitching about it's ability to to perform R-stamp welds.

      Thanks for commenting! I think you and I definitely have a similar range of work that covers a wide variety of jobs, I have used quite a few welders over the years and these two machines really do a good job, especially for the price, I compared the Omnipro last year in a video with my friends Millermatic 200 and both welders worked great, the Omnipro actually has a lot more features then the Miller for half the price, the Miller did weigh under 30lbs and the Omnipro was heavier at 49lbs. Both good welders. Take care

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joseph thanks for commenting! Well welding on 120 volts your definitely more prone to reaching the duty cycle then if you were plugged into 220 volts. Now possibly the reason why you had it hit the duty cycle the other day and not in the past could be outside temperature maybe? Was it a hot day? Maybe the last time you welded it was a cooler day? Not a big difference but could have a effect on duty cycle? Take care

    Hey Mike, I really enjoy your videos and your review of the VULCAN OmniPro 220 as I am looking to get this one for my personal home use. I do have a question though... I am currently going through welding school right now at HOBART and my understanding of what true "Duty Cycle" is the devices ability to weld "non-stop" before overheating/overloading, measured in how many minutes out of 10 minutes you can weld non-stop? I am just trying to get some clarification of the VULCAN OmniPro 220's "NON-STOP" welding time for a continuous, single weld. What is the longest, single, continuous weld you have tested on this machine? We were told that every time you release the trigger, it resets the duty cycle time. So my understanding is that, in your case with this specific project, if you were to weld a CONTINUOUS 81" weld without releasing the trigger that the device should shut off at the rated "Duty Cycle". Thanks for your time and reviews! I look forward to maybe a short/medium length video showing how long (using the stop watch method as you did here) the OmniPro 220 will weld before going into safety/neutral mode at the MAX Duty Cycle.

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Henry your right about how long a welder will weld in a continuous weld before it goes into a cool down cycle. Duty cycle is based on a 10 minute time, if your machine has say a 30% duty cycle then at full amps it will weld for about 3 minutes before needing a 7 minute break, but if you stop and start again it doesn’t reset the duty cycle time, think of it as 3 minute of welding at full amps in a ten minute period if you make short pauses to move to the next weld it doesn’t reset your duty cycle, it may extend it briefly. It mostly comes down to heat build up in the welder. This video was not made to show the duty cycle of welding one continuous bead, it’s to show the real world application when welding real jobs, I was quite surprised with how good these two welders did and one thing I think that really makes a difference is there not heavy transformer welders that can’t dissipate the heat well, they both are inverter welders and they have a much easier time cooling the electronics inside them with large cooling fans and heat sinks. The transformer based welders have real large copper windings around plates of steel, once this all gets hot it really takes a lot of air flow to cool it down and there’s no real good way to cool the center of the transformer, I have ran transformer welders to there duty cycle and I have noticed that once you cycle it ones it cycles quickly time and time again when welding on a job, it sucks waiting on a machine to cool down before you can get back to welding. I have never hit a cool down cycle on my Omnipro 220 or my Titanium 200, not to say it cannot happen, I just haven’t ever hit it yet. They are both great welders especially for the price! My video was just to see how they perform on a real job, my feeling is both are up to the task, if I was running them like this every day I think the Omnipro would hold up the best. Take care :)

      @Mikefestiva  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well Nathan I really like the Titanium 200, it fits my needs best, the size and weight is the biggest factor for my decision, it’s about 20 lbs lighter and much more compact. The Omnipro is definitely a bit more robust and the TIG has the optional amp pedal available for it, but for DC TIG I have not found this to be a deal breaker on the Titanium. The Omnipro has the screen and walks you through the set up of all the different set ups for MIG, stick and TIG, the Titanium comes with a simple note card to set it up. I have never hit the duty cycle on ether machine. The multi voltage is really great. I ended up trading the Omnipro for the ProTig 200. The Titanium 200 is my main MIG welder. I would say if you wanted a solid shop only welder with a few more features go for the Omnipro, if you want a great compact welder that is quite portable and affordable go for the Titanium 200. Take care 🙂

    awesome vid- and you obviously know what you're doing, but I have a question... you don't have any issues with that big fan blowing your shielding gas too thin while welding? may I ask what your flow rate is? I weld near water front properties and the wind is a constant obstacle. I'm thinking of replacing my Hobart 210 MVP for one of these multi-units, but it's tough giving up the Hobart knowing these welder are Harbor Freight- which typically makes lousy toss-away tools.

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Mike thanks for checking out my video, I have had a lot of people asking this question, most people assume it’s blowing on me, the fan is actually pointing away blowing out the door, this would be drawling the smoke outside, so it doesn’t effect the shielding gas.
      About the reliability of these welders, I have had zero problems with them so far. I don’t think I would ever buy a older style transformer welder that only does one function ever again, multi process to me is the way to go, I have no complaints about them. Buy what ever brand you like, I do know even if you buy a name brand they can still break, my friend bought a Millermatic 200 it was sent back 3 times in the first year, he was down a welder for about 6 months. With HF stuff at least you can walk in with a problem and walk out with a new welder, they don’t make you wait when they send your old one in for repairs, you get a completely new machine. Take care

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Lincoln is a 140, I really don’t think it’s that good of a welder, low duty cycle, only 120 volts, 140 amps seems questionable and is about 55 LBS, the volts are stepped so you only get like 5 settings plus it’s a older style transformer welder.
      I think for the $550 it cost I would prefer the Titanium 170 for $450, 170 Amps, the Titanium has a better duty cycle, it’s 120/240 volts, it’s 24LBS, the volts knob is linear so you have a wide range of adjustments,( no stepping like the Lincoln) digital display and it’s a inverter welder, they weld a lot smoother then the old transformer welders.
      I have welded a lot with the Lincoln and my Titanium 200 and hands down the Titanium is a far superior welder. Once you weld with a inverter MIG you won’t go back to the old transformer machines. Take care 🙂

    Mike, I have a titanium 140. On the box it says it will weld up to 5/16 inch. However, when I open the welder to see the chart for settings I see nothing past 1/8th inch thickness settings. The welder is only 120 volt. Am I missing something?

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think 1/8” is about average for any 120 volt welder, sometimes you can weld a little thicker with flux wire because it burns hotter.
      I would think the 5/16” would be multiple passes to weld that. Even on my Titanium 200 the chart only goes up to 1/4”
      If you bevel the parts with a grinder, you can lay a nice big bead or two down in the V groove. This will help when welding thicker parts.
      Also on really heavy metal you can pre heat it with a torch down the V groove, this will help too. Take care

    • @Mikefestiva
      @Mikefestiva  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Good question, if I was going into the store to buy one of these welders today it would be the Titanium 200. The reason is it fits my needs a bit better, it’s smaller and lighter and that’s what it really comes down to, ah and it’s less money especially when you consider it comes with the TIG torch included.
      Now that’s my feeling especially if I’m packing a welder around a lot, but which welder is best for others definitely depends? The Omnipro 220 has the auto set and spot weld features and a few other things that make it nice to use, another thing is if one was new to welding it walks you through the setup on how to hook up what leads to + or - depending on the process your going to weld with, this can be extremely helpful for someone that doesn’t weld often and could use a little help. Both welders I’m impressed with, and for the money you get quite good machines. If someone plans on keeping there welder in there shop and wants a bit bigger capacity welder with a bigger duty cycle it’s the Omnipro, if someone wants a more portable smaller welder that’s quite capable of handling mid size jobs then the Titanium would fit there needs, as you see both welders did really good in regards to duty cycle. I know this comment was a bit long but that’s my feeling on them. Take care

      @@Mikefestiva Hey thanks for the detailed reply. I was thinking that you would pick the Titanium 200 after this video. Really capable little machine which is slightly less powerful and only really seams to be lacking auto set. Seams like a great compromise when it weighs almost half. I've been impressed with the real world duty cycle tests of these welders but I have to wonder why they never seam to trip the duty cycles?

      My friend has a Millermatic 200, it’s a small multi process welder similar to the Titanium, it’s got the same duty cycle ratting as well, he has also noticed that welding 1/4” plate on jobs for long periods of time has not caused his welder to go into a cool down cycle ether. I think it could be the fact that the electronics in these modern welders are easier to keep cool with high flow fans and heat sinks compared to older transformer welders with a large mass of metal and coiled copper wire, once those transformers get hot I think it’s hard to keep them cooled down? That’s just my thoughts on it? Take care

      @Mikefestiva  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the screen is definitely nice on the Omnipro, and the Omnipro’s info on each screen page is real helpful for setting up the welder for different welding processes so it’s quite user friendly. I’m definitely impressed with both welders, I feel they both weld nicely. Thanks for commenting Antonio :)

    Not too shabby for a HF welder under a $1000 price point.... This makes me rethink investing into the ESAB 205ic

      depends on how much you plan to weld. if youre going to use it a lot id go with a more reputable welding machine. if youre a hobby welder or just fixing things here and there then id say buy a HF welder. an esab with outlive any HF welder by decades. i think thats a given. sure these new HF welders have the same output and duty cycle as some of the name brand machines but i havent found any videos on here of anyone doing any cut and etch tests to check penetration and how well these machines are actually running.

      Haha Sanders you don’t have to look far to find a video with a acid test, I did a cut and acid etch test in my last MIG video, th-cam.com/video/z1ADGEFJ6f8/w-d-xo.html
      I see you have committed a few times on my videos and you seem to not like these welder, no one is trying to twist your arm on buying one, use what ever welder you like. Ps I really think the acid etch test tells more about the person welding then the welder it’s self.

      @@robroy5729 When i do get into welding on certain particular jobs that are the limit of what i do - It would be 1/4" mild steel,,, & about 120# of weld wire total. Not all in 1 shot but over a span of a month to complete. Otherwise ,, On the smaller jobs it would be 1/4" mild steel & (1) 10# roll at max........... I used to have the Miller 210 but someone stole it - along with $25k worth of tools/painting equipment when i was on the road....... My home insurance only covered $2500 !!!
