    What wire do you like using?

      I've been using Lincoln, but I see that Arccaptain has an affordable flux wire out there with no reviews on the wire but very good reviews on their machines. It looks good, but no reviews makes it a bit less attractive.

    I have been using forney flux core, it’s arcs super clean, not a lot of spatter and it’s sold in 10lbs spools. Also stocked at local ace hardware stores!

      I've been having a lot of trouble getting my welds to stick with harbor freight wire. So because of this comment I went down to ace and got a roll of forney. Man what an improvement!!!!!!! In my opinion far superior wire.

    My friend gave me most of a 2 lb spool of Chicago Welding wire (Harbor Freight, looks pre-Vulcan branding). He had managed to birdnest it and told me if I wanted to fool with it I could have it. It was pouring down rain tonight, so while I sat watching tv, I unraveled it til I got to some orderly stuff then I slowly respooled it. There’s probably a pound and a half of the wire still on it.

    The first weld has slag inclusion. The last weld has heavy spatter probably due to its age (some hygroscopic moisture). Cost also comes down to time & consumables used to clean up the welds (wire wheels etc). Thanks for the Demo. Worked for Lincoln 32 years.

    I used to have a Craftsman 110V MIG welder. I bought it new in 1993 or so. In 1995 I bought a 10 lb spool of .035 E71T-GS, a no name generic brand, I don't even remember where, hoping to get better with it. I could never master MIG, or flux, and made more bubble gum welds than anything. I don't think I ever got two pieces of steel to stick together with it. I gave the welder away to my nephew a couple of years ago (2021?). In any case, I just got an S7 MIG-200 multi function, put that old spool of wire in it, and was welding better than I ever have, with any process, stick, TIG, MIG, or gas. A twenty eight year old roll of wire, and I was welding with it. I'll be picking up a roll of Lincoln or Hobart in the next few weeks and gettin' busy!! BTW, so far, the little S7 seems pretty nice.

    Glad I found your channel, I have to say you sound so much like Project Farm😊. I'm a first time welder I do however work on small engines and cars. Sometimes I need to do welding so I bought the Chicago Electric Flux 125 and thankfully found your channel. My question is it say it can use .030 to .035 wire, is the .035 better. Also what should I set the welder to when welding? Thank you for any help. And your channels awesome!!!!

    • @-DIYPRO-
      @-DIYPRO-  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll take that as a compliment! You'll use 0.030 for thinner material and 0.035 for thicker. I typically go with 0.030 because I usually do thinner material. As far as settings start with the suggested settings. There should be a sticker under the hood. It will relate to the material thickness you are welding.

    If welded correctly what’s the max weight it can handle before it breaks? (Flux core welding)

    • @-DIYPRO-
      @-DIYPRO-  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That will depend on how long and what size weld you are actually putting down. Also are you looking at a shear or tensile strength? Sorry I'm an engineer so I like the calculation details!

    • @Don.E.63
      @Don.E.63 ปีที่แล้ว

      The "70" in the wire number indicates 70k psi tensile strength, hope this helps.

    Forney or Yes Welder Flux core are all I use now. They cost less then the Vulcan and welds and cleans up way better for me. I threw away my over 3/4 roll full of Vulcan wire after using them and I am dirt cheap so you not it was no comparison.

  • @tsl7881
    @tsl7881 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The HF wire is okay, but it is not rated for multi-pass like the Lincoln. I couldn't read numbers on the other wire rolls ( I must have played the hot digity section 10 times to catch the photo of the rolls) and you didn't say, so there are different types. I couldn't find the blue demon website to look up all their wire specs. Lincoln has a blistering amount of technical information on their website, unlike some. I always bought the Lincoln in 10lb rolls, but still about $15 -20 in the local stores more than blue demon and I've only seen blue demon online.
    Remember you can get worms from burning old wire (worm hole porosity) so check for worm tracks...

      That welder draws 20 amps at the highest settings. Strictly going off ohms laws you'd need 20A x 120V =2,400 watts. But there are definitely inefficiencies so I would oversize it for sure, unless you just want to run off the lower settings.

      No you cannot put 045 it is not designed to hold 045 you would have to change out the liner check with the manufacturer instruction manual or call the manufacturer even the roller is not going to say 045 in less the machine on the manual says that it is an 045 machine

      If you were needing 045 are you using 220 volts consistently and doing metal over 3/8 thick you should probably switch to a stick welder

    • @-DIYPRO-

      The wire diameter or thickness. You'll want to us .030 for thinner material and .035 for thicker. There is overlap and since most of my projects are 3/16" or thinner I tend to only use 0.030.
