There’s a guy that I go to church with and he’s been wanting to purchase a welder for quite some time. From all the reviews I’ve seen, including yours now, I understand that the Vulcan line from Harbor freight is a good quality. I recommended that he go check out Harbor freight for his first welder. I was actually in there, perusing the welding aisle a while back because I’ve always wanted to get into TIG welding. Haven’t pulled the trigger on that yet obviously but it’ll happen eventually. When I was about 18 years old, I was staying with my grandfather out on a dairy farm. My grandfather had some friends he let keep stuff at his place, and one of those guys was a paint and body man. He had a little Miller Matic I think it was a 110 amp welder, but I can’t recall exactly. Anyway, I was building my first car which was a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang.
I started using his welder and I used it quite a bit. He just had a roll of flux core in it. I used it so much that he told me I could just buy it off of him and I did for the incredible price of $100 . Moving forward to 2017 I bought the welder I have now which is a Hobart Iron Man and it’s rated at 250 A. It’s a transformer welder. But has served me very well and has plenty of power to weld half inch plate which I’ve only done once. Like I use .030 wire for the most part I have a roller two of .035 also. And just because mine is a Hobart, I usually or always get the Hobart brand wire for it, and that stuff has gotten ridiculously expensive. Just like everything else I guess. But it’s good to know that the inverter based welders last like yours has. I’ve always been skeptical about them that they might be delicate or the circuitboard would not last, but seems like yours has held up very well. I also bought my bottle from Airgas and I think it’s 124 ft.³ but I am not 100% sure. It’s a very tall bottle and it last me for quite a while. I actually just refilled it a few weeks agoand it lasted me three years but I have not been doing nearly as much welding in that time as I have recently recently. Sides all that, great video, and I look forward to seeing the next one!

The price of the Hobart wire shocked me! I’ve always ran .30 in it. Its a good all around. My dad has two transformer welders. We used the Dan Mig 140 yesterday fixing the door sill in the truck. It’s from 1984 then he’s got a big 240 snap on welder from the 90’s. Transformer welders Definitely last. I’m curious how long this will last. I don’t baby it or anything. I’m kinda limited to the shorter bottle or at least I was. Before grandpa gave me the truck I had my jeep and company car to run out and get stuff. The closest air gas is over an hour away. I usually just wait til it’s low and plan a visit to my folks in Va beach and get it filled down there. Wish I could get 3 years out of a bottle! I was looking at the pro tig 215. Last time I was at air gas I got quotes on some tigs that burnt my eyes! Trying to get some stuff paid off first and some other big projects out of the way.

Dad had pretty good looking welds with it. I’d use it for field work in the shop though it seems like extra work
