Nice bonus -- for you with the obsidian score, and us with your video. You made great use of your summer on the road. It's been enjoyable watching you experience the western US.
Interesting video. That van looks like it's holding up just fine. Down the road, I'd be real interested in seeing a video on how to find arrowheads. I'm sure I've passed places that had them while herping. It would be nice to know what you consider a good place for artifacts, like what the ground looks like and what you look for when hunting for arrowheads.
every archaeologist is gonna get after you for picking up arrowheads. I even had one get after me for picking up an old rock that had been heat treated by natives and making an arrowhead out of it. I haven't ever found an arrowhead before though so I wouldn't know how to find them.
@@PrimitiveTim That is so weird that the archaeologists would be like that. I'm mean, I guess I could understand if they were rarer in type or seemed historically unique. In VA, I remember kids mentioning they found them in their back yards all the time. My bf and his friends found tons growing up and playing in the woods around Clifton/Fairfax Station VA. It's so commonplace that I never realized there could be an issue with it.
Bonus episode! Go Tim! Good shots and storytelling on this one sir. I'd be content to sit around and watch you chip arrowheads and talk about rocks, geology, and primitive things. Even watching you cook oatmeal in the back of your van was a pleasant slice of your cross country adventure. One of these days I'd love to read more about your film making processes. You are a native Floridian right? At what month does herping slow or halt in the fall or winter months in Florida? Does location matter (herping year round in southern Florida)?
yessir I'm aFloridian through and through. you can find stuff all year round in Florida. it'll halt if we get a front come.through but the next week it'll be warmer and you can find something.
+technoendo - I've had great success in Feb down in FL, but I usually hang way down in the Everglades where the temps stay warm. Not saying Feb is the best time, just saying if the temps are right and you're in the Everglades, things seem to be out.
It made me realize that every place has something special about it, you just have to get off your butt and go find that special thing. I think a lot of people are ungrateful about where they live because they lack creativity and curiosity. I believe there's a God that created this world and his majesty is woven into every fiber of the earth. So there is something magical and wonderful in every place you go.
@@PrimitiveTim Yeah,... I only did some family sight seeing,....but I was thinking about doing things like you have done.I live in ohio near flint Ridge,....that flint was some hard stuff as I recall as a kid. I source arrows in my woods hazelnut usually,....feathers are hard to locate. And I haven't knapped anything yet.
You need a hammer, it spalls smaller bits off the host rock, so you take home bigger stones, they also allow you to dig easily. And you should be spelling parallel to the lines in the rock. You spall the wrong corner you won't see the color.
haha awesome! thanks for checking out my channel. feel free to message me on facebook or I guess you do have my phone number if you have any questions you want to discuss.
have you ever found a obsidian stone with a blue tint or shine....and which of the rarest obsidian stones have you found.... how much money does it cost to buy as I'm willing to buy.. from you with permission.
Yeah I've find blue. Someone gave me some fire obsidian which is the rarest stuff I have. I can't sell it because I collected it under a recreational permit. Look up Quinn street from volcanic treasures. He could hook you up
it's illegal for me to sell my obsidian because I got a free permit and not commercial. I know there is flint in Europe but you'll have to do some research and I know there's obsidian in Turkey.
Oh,ok,thanks,...whait... does that mean i am not normal...i too am a flint knapper(i made the arrowhead on my profile picture)...whait we are not normal.(jk i know what you ment), i love your videos, learned very much out of them, keep up the really good work!
No hurry. How much have you got now. How much actual dust and very small chips that I can use as stone inlay in my canes. Would you just like to trade me some stone for a custom walking stick of a beautiful hand made hade-me-down for generations type of cane? Check out my FB page and web site. The Stick Guys. A trade would be cool.
I hope greedy pricks haven't picked the area clean I just want enough to make a 7 inch dagger blade and a handful of arrowheads and that's it for my whole life.

Този район не е ли частен? Има ли право всеки човек да влиза в този район?
Yep it's open to the public but very remote
How much the value of obsidian sir
Really not worth much. Maybe $50-$100 for a bucket full of higher quality material.

You're allowed to take a 5 gallon bucket full per day. It's hard work so people aren't going to exploit it
@@PrimitiveTim ok I hope to find a boulder when I go out then I am set for life in rainbow.

+Wades blades I'm not sure what the prices are for obsidian. I mined under a recreational permit so I can't sell any of mine.
