    good stuff ! I'm cutting a bunch different stuff to send out to people, ive been doing a lot obsidian varieties, I love how soft it is compared to a quartz, wish they were all that quick, I really think obsidian is way overlooked, and every time its crafted its awesome. my favorite shade of lava! thanks for a fun vid, happy hounding !

      I do also love how soft it is to grind down...it's just the polishing that requires extra time compared to other minerals :)

    the layered are easier because of the consistency of it, but those with the random swirls from glass butte are pretty awesome with the more severe mixing ,...is what I see, harder to judge I'm sure ,but more random is cool sometimes ! enjoying this video a lot, I do the same chase of play with these and its pretty exciting every cut.

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why I'm grateful that rainbow is pretty consistent! The random swirl varieties are nice too...they just require some extra effort to study before cutting haha

    Interesting I’ve been learning on how to cut some labradorite to find the best flash to come out in it , I don’t have a saw like yours but learning how to bring out that flash on a tile saw, thank you 😊 beautiful rainbow obsidian love those purple and greens 💙😊thank you

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I know how to cut labradorite - very similar to other feldspars where is mostly a directional stone and definitely has to be cut just right for the best possible flash in the finish product.

    cut straight along the layers, then bring out the coloured layers as you shape the slab.

    I have watched this a few times and I never tire of the POP of color on that piece of Rainbow....You're calling it joker because of the primary two colors and I understand this, a personal view of course...But it's hard enough for me to remember all the names and Kyle you're not making it any easier! 🤣🤣

    Great video. Would you recommend the same angle for cutting slabs for pressure flaking blades and arrow heads? I have been cutting pieces from glass buttes but angle has been closure to 5-10 degrees. I plan to watch more video of yours as I would love to find a way to better polish obsidian. Thanks!

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think around that should be a good angle. Worst case, you can always do a couple small cuts and adjust as needed. Hard to make it exact haha
      I hope you find my videos somewhat helpful :)

    That material is awesome, how do I get my hands on some of that?

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep an eye out online between Ebay or even facebook market places. You should be able to find good rainbow obsidian anywhere between $5 to $10 per lb. unless prices everywhere go up, a good seller should only be charging that much.

    Hi Kyle, I have have watched your videos and others on this rainbow obsidian for a year. Orienting, cutting and polishing.. I have a question. The rainbow obsidian I have worked with shows color only when the light shines on it just right. More so than Opal...am I cutting it wrong? or is it rainbow obsidian just like that...the colors only show at a certain angle...?

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for asking but at this time, I do not. Just too time consuming to work on obsidian by itself. Adding carving into the mix would take up too much time :(

    Is that transparent or not...if transpart what colour....???

    • @WorldofRockhounds
      @WorldofRockhounds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not transparent. It's a black color, just each layer has a different make up where it gives off a different color.
