I haven't bought Phillips head screws in decades. The only use for a Phillips head bit is when it's needed to service something that comes assembled with them. A Robertson head bit will not strip nearly as readily as a Phillips. I buy the Robertsons in packs of 30. I couldn't afford the cost of Phillips needed for the same work volume.

To Ryobi’s credit, I’ve heard it was them who developed the Shockwave bits and it’s was TTI’s decision to make it exclusive to Milwaukee.

I typically use PH2, Torx 25, and occasionally a Roberston 2. So lately I've been looking at bit cases a little differently. Most cases on average contain less of the 3 main I use and a load of other niche bits. So when I consider the price for the box I am usually paying 15-20 bucks for less than 10 bits... thats not my idea of value. Would be great if someone started a custom bit box company where I can select what I want and pay accordingly.

    • @reginalb124

I have started to just order the bits in bulk that I need and use old cases for them. Montana brand sells 20 piece cases of 1 inch PH2, SQ2, and T25. I have full rows of T25 and PH2 in an old Makita Gold case.
I've started to use a lot of Simpson Strong Tie 316SS fasteners (live very near the ocean so I really need some corrosion resistance) and those jerks use a ton of T20 and even T15 heads on their screws. Like come on guys, I have all of these damn T25s, Montana Brand doesn't even sell T15s, while they have T20s, not in bulk. But HD sells 3 packs of Makita XPS bits, so I also have a bunch of those in that same old MG case. All that said, a 3 pack of Makita XPS 2 inch bits will last for a long-ass time.

Well I have a random assortment of ryobi bits and generally don't have issues with them. I have Dewalt as well. Leaning more towards the Dewalt kits now as they seem to have a better assortment of other items in them. At the end of the day, I don't rely on any to pay the bills so I'm happy with what I have. They are meant to wear out so if I know I'm doing to use alot of screws, I buy the box of Dewalt. But I guess I'm lucky with the Ryobi thus far.

I do like the Makita bits, but don't like the latch for the case. I actually like the Milwaukee cases, as they are easy open/close. Though, I do hate how hard the bits are to get out. I 3D printed some bit holders, which are working just a bit better and allowed me to do some customization of the holders to work with some specific bits.

I've had good luck with Milwaukee personally. But then again, I take the time to make sure that I'm aligning the bit on the same axis as the driver (this is operator error not tool). Most people have already got their booger picker clinching the ugga dugga trigger before aligning the tool and or smash the trigger to much to allow the bit/attachment correctly orient and engage it. That said, as you referenced @ProjectFarm did like the Makita bits and said they held up pretty good.

I like the inside of the Dewalt cases but the edges on the outside snag on pockets and tools inide my tool bag when shoving them in. Switched to the Milwaukee and found the smooth and beveled exterior of the case makes them much easier to slide into my tool bag. Bits are difficult to remove at first.

lol! I bough a Ryobi 70 pice kit due to the price (20-30$ sale if i recall), forget that. I ended up having some older random bits, dewalt that came with a kit, and bosch and on one project because I used multiple tools I was using all the bits in diff tools and i started avoiding the tool with ryobi bit or swapping them (the fit was horrible on screws). I also broke a ryobi drill bit first time i used it repairing a computer chair. I went and got a old set and i mean like 30-40 years old from the garage and finished the job with no issues.

The Hitis are expensive because of the brand name. A Montana Brand set that includes 4 nut drivers costs $24. That Kobalt set looks a LOT like MB hardware, and since they're a contract manufacturer, they might make them.
Really wish someone would sell a good empty customizable case. Bosch advertises kind of like they do, but you have to buy bits with the inserts, you can't get empty inserts. And then you end up spending more than if you just bought a set and trashed everything in it.
