I've actually managed to auto-land at Melbourne International now 3 times without any problems, so i wasn't even aware it wasn't working properly. But I must admit I have not tried to auto-land anywhere else. Coming into MSFS2020, I knew nothing about flying an Airbus, and now i am... mostly successful. Thanks in whole to this channel. Your level of real-time detail comparing system behavior vs desired/expected aircraft behavior on known approaches is outstanding. (Your “play-by-play” explanation has motivated me to contemplate how I might design/build a small DIY ILS system for fixed wing UAVs. GREAT job.)
Its fixed but the actual landing part is still broken as the plane doesnt land on the centerline nor does it flare when the top middile of the pdf says “FLARE” it doesnt so ap is fixed but not bad landing autopilot is still broke
@320 Sim Pilot, I spent more than 300 hours studying and flying that plane in MSFS2020 The ILS approach deviation is a bug on certain runways. When I was trying to land on a runway that had ILS beacons only on one side, that side was supposed to be in the end of the runway but no, I saw ILS beacons go from the runway back in to water. Some airports have bias/displacement of the runways and ILS compared to real world
ILS and RNAV approach inconsistencies on different runways with the buggy software are pretty frustrating. Sometimes you can walk away and other times you auger in.
More than likely ILS approach and landing accuracy is going to depend on if the airport has been manually “touched up” by the developers or not. I would expect the “handcrafted” airports to have a much better experience in this regard vs. the ones that were generated via algorithm as in those cases, the ILS systems can be way out of alignment (which is often why on AP assisted landings the plane seems to aim for the middle of the runway and to the sides instead in the center towards the touchdown zone). Hopefully this gets refined by Asobo and/or the mod community and a lot of these issues are corrected with the airports and the aircraft at some point.
Why does everyone just assume that default aircraft are allowed to suck? We're all paying for them. The basics should work. We're not talking about not being able to choose the movies shown on in-flight-entertainment...

Here’s the thing. The Localizer that works best is the default RW the simulator chooses when you select the arrival airport. I go into DFW and 18L is the only Localizer that works well. And that is the default choice
My almost daily run is from KIAH-KDFW. Normally commercial aircraft depart on the runway closest to the terminal and arriving aircraft use the outer ones. 18L would normally be used for departures, but I guess it depends on traffic density. I normally use 17C.
It used to be a part of flightsimmer's mandatory armchair education item that "ILS freaks out at low altitude due to shortened baseline", and previous versions of MSFS sort of represented that so you had to always take over. That obviously shouldn't happen with CAT III Autoland but that could be it.
Thanks for all the videos sofar. Before your channel i used various other resources and it was pretty hard translating that content to the msfs2020 version of the a320. Also explaining all steps and pointing out bugs (that really confused me earlier) really helps alot.
I tried this in a few airports as well, if Im not already mostly lined up with the localizer before activating approach mode it will align itself incorrectly and try to land me on the grass parallel to the runway.

Why you can't display the ILS is because the Freq. for the loc. has to be manually placed on the approach screen in the 320nx mod., the stock A320 will place the freq. in.
The atc is also in need of serious fixing! The other day I was shooting an approach to Bergen, & atc told me to descend only when I reached the star, & had me at 7000feet for final approach, when I needed to be at 3000. One question, how do we determine takeoff trim? It was easy on the Flight factor a320.
ATC has throughout flight sim history been garbage at best. This tradition continues in MSFS2020. The bug giving low FPS with SimConnect has been fixed and now users can log on to VATSIM using Vpilot and FSUIPC7 beta which is a stand alone program.
Can you please do a tutorial on all the lighting system? I'm still a bit confused about when to use what. Such as Strobe (On, Auto, Off and some planes have flashing/solid), Beacon Lights, NAV, Runway Turnoff, Landing, Taxi (off, TO, Taxi). It would be MUCH MUCH appreciated. Thank you!
I see here the same problem, which I have when doing automatic landings with ILS - the vertical speed on touch down is rather high - here in this video it seems to be above 500 fpm, which is a lot... of course you can reduce this speed through manual flare, but then it is no more an automatic landing...
How are people getting those different camera presets? All i got are the instruments for cockpit and some that move around the plane from the outside.... I would like to have that look out of the window....

I think the problem was with the A320NX. When I installed that version I could never land straight into the runway using ILS. Although previously I landed on the same airport. It was always missing the runway. Uninstalling it somehow worked for me again
I also saw that if during flight plan the flight route (approach) isn't slightly alined with the runway, then during landing the plane will always miss the runway. I have to max zoom during the flight plan to make sure the path is straight. Weird

I’m not understanding something and maybe it’s terminology or otherwise…..I was under the impression on cat3 that you programmed RVR and I see nowhere to implement this? Or I missed something. If you could elaborate on the mda and dh and rvr id really appreciate it
RVR is a requirement, so it stands for ‘runway visual range’. The airport will measure the RVR in metres. If it’s below the required minimum we cannot make our approach as we would not be visual. However we can land without seeing the runway using CAT3B but in that case we still need 75m RVR so we can taxi the aircraft off the runway. Either way RVR is never entered into the FMGC, it is more like a readout on the current weather. DH however is the moment in the descent to the runway where we must be visual, so it’s where we make our decision.
Another fantastic video, thank you very much for the time and effort you put in! I was wondering if it has to do with having both the Loc and the Approach buttons activated, instead of just the Approach?
Glad you liked it, thank you for watching and your comment! In the Airbus you can press LOC first and then APPR, it will just add the G/S armed for you. Hopefully we will see more of these features corrected soon!
@@320SimPilot If you want to get the ILS info on the PFD I use the nav button on the radio management panel under the MCDU. I lift the cover on the nav button, select NAV and select ILS. There is a way to bringthe ILS on the PFD using the MCDU but as I don't know how to use the MCDU yet so I'm not sure how. I mentioned my work around to a streamer and he armed the ILS using the MCDU.
10:07 from where did you get the modified version? I also saw a modified one where the Ecam buttons are all functional but still reluctant to download it cuz am afraid if it curropts the original files 😅
Is there a bug that doesnt activate the decent mode in the FMC before the Approach mode? So it seems to go from take off to climb to cruise fine, but from Cuise to decent it doesnt trigger, but the approach does trigger. Anybody know how to trigger the decent mode in the FMC?
The ICAO categorisation says CAT3A is for a DH lower than 100ft. There is no minimum DH just an RVR limit of not less than 200m. CAT3B is for DH lower than 50ft and RVR 200m to minimum of 75m. CAT3C=flying and taxing blindly. I could be wrong though my book is a bit old.
Loving the videos, they’ve really helped with my flight simming in general but especially with the 2020 MSFS! I was wondering if I would be able to DM you regarding some real life flying things?
I have not been having this issue, but I have only tried this at two airports. Also, I have a question, what are you supposed to do when/if you go around on an auto land? I had to go around once and could not get the plane to follow the G/S, it did follow the LOC though. Is there something specific you have to do after going around to get it to auto land again?
Not sure if this is a stupid question or not but just thought I'd ask as google isnt helping me. Why do commercial jets require more than 1 autopilot? Is 1 there just for backup? Or can one do something that the other cant? Do they work at the same time? Would appreciate any answer thanks guys :)
So which sim do you think has the physical flight characteristics (yaw, pitch, movement behaviour, landing characteristics) of an A320 which is most like the real thing? MS FS2020 or X-Plane? I have been flying X-Plane for awhile (ToLiss A319 and A321 as well as the FF A320) and I find them easier to land. Having problems with the FS2020 A-320...
I use autoland ALWAYS and for me it always works. Maybe because i use the flight plan from the editor instead of setting the ILS-frequency manually....
Do you know if there's a workaround to get the built-in flight planner to work when you spawn in the air? Every time I do an air start my waypoints and destination aren't loaded in the A320. Makes it really hard to practice anything but visual approaches unless I do some weird flight plan like Newark to JFK.
I did a video on this 2 days ago. Autopilot was a mess tbh. Kept going off centre landing on the side of the runway. This was on the ingame landing tutorial. I thought i was doing it wrong but now i know it seems a bug?
What i dont understand, if this was released to people in Alpha and Beta versions, surely these glaringly obvious issues should have been picked up ? or is that being too simplistic? The indecent haste to launch it too was misjudged i think
thx for this. been also watching your other ils videos. unfortunately i never ever get to capture g/s. loc is no problem, the plane aligns with centreline. g/s shows up in blue early on but then disappears when i'm about to intercept it and i continue at altitude. any ideas?
Best video to experiment with auto landing! I attempted to auto land using ILS/APR mode into KJFK on an A320. Everything looked normal until 30 feet above runway and PFD showed 'Flare'. When I moved the thrust lever from CLIME to Idle, the plane took a nose dive, hit the runway hard, bounced up a couple of times before finally landing. Do you think it is a bug?
hey 320 Sim Pilot, Do you have any tips in terms of TR preparation because i will fly the 321neo and would like to meet the requirements of my airline :) keep up the content, I'm really learning out of your videos!
As you mention weather conditions in this video: What do you think about the live weather? I'm currently flying on FL320 above a Taifun strength 2 and real weather reports wind 100/80. MSFS2020 applies 225/03 which is ridiculous .... Trafic and weather are set to "Live". Do I miss some settings in the preparation phase, maybe?
The 225/03 is a known issue. People flew through hurricane Laura and still read the same thing. I'd be happy if I can manually edit the alt/spd restrictions in the MCDU.
@@Sim737Pilot Ok, thanks for the info. I get those winds during all flights, more or less . even if I get weather readings for the airport or not, always around 225/03
Oddly enough, I've never had these problems with landings; of course I don't autoland but every time I've used the ILS, it always lines me up correctly with the runway and it always manages the glideslope correctly. I've seen these weird deviations from a lot of youtubers but never in game
I tried several landings before you put out your video with this and I got the same result. It puts the plain to the left and correcting it with the keyboard is almost impossible in such little distance. I'm a total beginner with the flight sim world but I've stopped playing because so many things are broken now. Microsoft workaround flight simulator.
Vey good vid man !>>>>>>>>>OMG !.... Hopefully the flybywiresim group will be able to get this right. ( what a desaster performance of Microsoft Flight sim .....how long do they make flightsims now?)
When I fly an ILS approach in the A320 FBW, everything is fine until the last 1000ft. Aircraft aligned with the ILS with AP, LOC & APP activated. When the AP, LOC & APP is switched off for a manual landing my flight controls just don’t work and there is no flight control possible, the plane just does it’s own thing. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
I've noticed with my Saitek yoke, I don't have the precision I'd like. Might have to bust out my Thrustmaster, but then I don't have use of the throttle quadrant.
Friend recommended your account, looks like I can learn alot I know you probably get this alot too but any advice on making the dreama reality, as with alot of people the financial aspect is the biggest hurdle I'm facing the now, just wondering if theres any ways you know of overcoming that apart from just saving
You usually need to qualify for a bank loan of at least $100,000 USD. Remember it is only 2 percent sacrifice for a career that could pay $5,000,000 USD over the long term.
I have no idea how people are having issues with this game I run 3440x1440 at 90 percent resolution on high end preset and I get over 100 most times and over 60 when low to the ground . I will be getting a 3080 so will be interesting to see it perform .
You don't need a DH- decision height per regulations and can land without seeing the runway at all. Also, if one autopilot fails, you have a second as backup. In normal flight, only one is used at a time. The PF-pilot flying will select it on their side.
Using the default A320 I think I got it to work, I wasn't intending to autoland but I used approach mode to bring me and it was perfectly tracking the glideslope till 100ft when I disconnected the autopilot. Maybe it's an issue with the modded version? That or JFK is just less buggy (I think it is one of the handcrafted airports so maybe that makes a difference).
It's almost 6 months later and this still hasn't been fixed. You can't engage both autopilots and it frequently fails to acquire LOC or G/S despite being in range, and then it does little to no flare and sometimes even bounces off the runway. You'd think this would be one of the first things they'd fix, but no. It's amazing how buggy Microsoft Flight Simulator is in general, there are small bugs everywhere still.

Why is there not a purple diamond visible for the LOC ? (only see the one from the glideslope)
Thank you so much really appreciate it 😊!!
10:07 from where did you get the modified version? I also saw a modified one where the Ecam buttons are all functional but still reluctant to download it cuz am afraid if it curropts the original files 😅
Fly by wire a32nx
www.msfsaddons.org/aircraft/a320neo-improved. I've installed it. Much better than default.
Another grrreat video - thanks! I'm still having trouble with the autopilot though, every time I select the ILS approach phase :¬(
Is there a bug that doesnt activate the decent mode in the FMC before the Approach mode? So it seems to go from take off to climb to cruise fine, but from Cuise to decent it doesnt trigger, but the approach does trigger. Anybody know how to trigger the decent mode in the FMC?
The ICAO categorisation says CAT3A is for a DH lower than 100ft. There is no minimum DH just an RVR limit of not less than 200m.
CAT3B is for DH lower than 50ft and RVR 200m to minimum of 75m.
CAT3C=flying and taxing blindly.
I could be wrong though my book is a bit old.
Idk if I got it right but auto landing is like a normal ils app but we don’t disarm auto pilot? (Talking about the sim not real life)
Loving the videos, they’ve really helped with my flight simming in general but especially with the 2020 MSFS!
During AUTO Landing i think AP1 and AP2 buttons should be both pressed.
Have you ever been to Salzburg? I am living there, greetings!
Really appreciate your videos. Maybe the bugs will eventually get worked out.
@@MrMattumbo sorry, i don't know, i always take off from runways or start from the gate, my flightplan always is set correctly then
I did a video on this 2 days ago. Autopilot was a mess tbh. Kept going off centre landing on the side of the runway.
This was on the ingame landing tutorial. I thought i was doing it wrong but now i know it seems a bug?
Great Video - Thanx a lot!
I usually take over at 100 feet even in a CAT 3 landing since the flare mode is such trash right now.
Do you think it is a bug?
hey 320 Sim Pilot,
Do you have any tips in terms of TR preparation because i will fly the 321neo and would like to meet the requirements of my airline :) keep up the content, I'm really learning out of your videos!
Thanks for the video
keep it up mate!
I think this bug has been fixed on the world II update?
Why weren't you using both ap?
Can the real aircraft really autoland in crosswinds? What ate the limits?
As you mention weather conditions in this video:
What do you think about the live weather?
I'm currently flying on FL320 above a Taifun strength 2 and real weather reports wind 100/80.
MSFS2020 applies 225/03 which is ridiculous ....
Trafic and weather are set to "Live". Do I miss some settings in the preparation phase, maybe?
The 225/03 is a known issue. People flew through hurricane Laura and still read the same thing. I'd be happy if I can manually edit the alt/spd restrictions in the MCDU.
@@Sim737Pilot Ok, thanks for the info. I get those winds during all flights, more or less . even if I get weather readings for the airport or not, always around 225/03
the approach phase seems to be the most difficult for me
Oddly enough, I've never had these problems with landings; of course I don't autoland but every time I've used the ILS, it always lines me up correctly with the runway and it always manages the glideslope correctly. I've seen these weird deviations from a lot of youtubers but never in game
no food sim pilot has problems with landings in ILS. But he is not talking about ILS, he is talking about autoland, which is incomplete in the sim
I tried several landings before you put out your video with this and I got the same result. It puts the plain to the left and correcting it with the keyboard is almost impossible in such little distance. I'm a total beginner with the flight sim world but I've stopped playing because so many things are broken now. Microsoft workaround flight simulator.
I disengage autopilot the last 1000 feet or so and fly manually. It's also good practice.
Vey good vid man !>>>>>>>>>OMG !.... Hopefully the flybywiresim group will be able to get this right. ( what a desaster performance of Microsoft Flight sim .....how long do they make flightsims now?)
It's been a very long time since FSX and it's a new team who made it.
@@cjmillsnun ...( forgot to save previous experience?.....)
Is it possible in this game to go into the CFDS page and do bite tests?
What is the most common type of landing for airliners in the real world? Is ILS always the standard? Thanks!
Visual approach, although as prudent practice, all the controls are set up to follow the ILS as added safety measure.
Do you need to press LOC first? I've always done that and then press APP after it locks on to the localizer and it always manages to land on target.
You can press APP directly before intercepting localiser and it will capture loc first and g/s when available. No need to press LOC first.
can you compare fs2020 with xplane 11
Why does mine do a nosedive on the flare section?
I hope after watching this I can finally get the airplane to land...
I've noticed with my Saitek yoke, I don't have the precision I'd like. Might have to bust out my Thrustmaster, but then I don't have use of the throttle quadrant.
Friend recommended your account, looks like I can learn alot
I know you probably get this alot too but any advice on making the dreama reality, as with alot of people the financial aspect is the biggest hurdle I'm facing the now, just wondering if theres any ways you know of overcoming that apart from just saving
You usually need to qualify for a bank loan of at least $100,000 USD. Remember it is only 2 percent sacrifice for a career that could pay $5,000,000 USD over the long term.
@@fl380productions8 I'm not in the US, I'm UK
Very nice thank you
Have you pre-ordered your 3090 yet? Might get a consistent 30fps with that :D
You can’t preorder it yet
I have no idea how people are having issues with this game I run 3440x1440 at 90 percent resolution on high end preset and I get over 100 most times and over 60 when low to the ground . I will be getting a 3080 so will be interesting to see it perform .
@@ericimi can I have your old gpu? :)
Still some work to be done on the A320, i must say!!!!!
What is the benefit of two autopilots on the real plane?
You don't need a DH- decision height per regulations and can land without seeing the runway at all. Also, if one autopilot fails, you have a second as backup. In normal flight, only one is used at a time. The PF-pilot flying will select it on their side.
I really want to use the neo but it crashes the game every tim I load it up
'Not for real world use'
Me: Steals A320 and uses tutorials to pilot it
@320 Sim Pilot, I’m another real-world Airbus pilot (albeit A330), and had a few questions about MSFS2020/A320. Any chance of DM?
Hi Warrick, thanks for watching. Best place for contact is to join the discord!
@@320SimPilot Can I ask what your Discord username is?
Using the default A320 I think I got it to work, I wasn't intending to autoland but I used approach mode to bring me and it was perfectly tracking the glideslope till 100ft when I disconnected the autopilot. Maybe it's an issue with the modded version? That or JFK is just less buggy (I think it is one of the handcrafted airports so maybe that makes a difference).
They're still using the default Asobo model for the modded version.
Thing that gets me Is my auto throttle turns back on right at touchdown and sends me right back up
yes it's supposed to. you have to go to idle before you touchdown, he has said they normally do that at around 20 feet
this is not autoland, in autoland the autopilot flares then reduces the throttle to idle which it does not do in FS2020
