    This is the first video I've seen from your channel and I absolutely loved it. I just had my freshmen orientation for OSU last week, and I was kind of freaking out about finding my friend group because everybody talks about absolutely loving their friends, but then there are so many people. And everyone I've met is so nice but I don't know how I'm gonna find my right friend group. I was also freaking out about how hard the classes are going to be. But anyway, I really enjoyed this video... :P

    You are so articulate. This was quality content. I've watched a couple of other videos and all it was was people complaining. They didn't even seem knowledgeable or involved. I graduated in 2003 and my college experience was one of my fondest parts of my life. I was very involved and a scholarship student. I also was a partier and had every type of fun possible. College is what you make it, in every respect. Good luck in your future. Thanks for a wonderful video.

    Good video... wind screen for microphone would help...
    I went to a small High School where some people did really well academically but had nervous breakdowns or worse when they hit the big Fish 🐠 Tank at College... Some people rate themselves by how they perform.
    When I went to Collage a loooooooong time ago you had to check what edition of a book was required because at the small College I went some of the profs wouldn’t let you use an older edition.
    Get your books in order as soon as possible and back up all computer related stuff... I recovered and got an A in a class but I was new to computer graphics when I took a few art classes in 2004 and it was the computer I used in the lab that was stolen over the weekend so I had to redo a bunch of homework assignments.
    In the 2004 situation I was new to computer classes but I made my way to the top of the class by going to the open lab that the adjunct would be available there to help the students. At the beginning I was asking the young kids for a lot of help but at the end a lot of kids were asking me for help. Respect is earned and putting in the time is important.
    SOME PEOPLE WERE INCREDIBLY TALENTED (much more so than me) BUT DIDN’T GET GOOD GRADES BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T PUT IN THE TIME. I thought that was such a waste.

    imho if you really want to end up at ohio state, start off at one of their regional campuses; mansfield, newark, lima, wooster, etc. because after one year there you get automatic admission to the Columbus (main) campus (& youre above the people who are actually applying to get in) AND its cheaper for your first year!

    • @JMontage
      @JMontage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Automatic admission? Is that really a thing? You make good points for sure, but here's something to consider: In my opinion, 2 of the most influential classes I've taken in college were during the first year and I couldn't have taken them at a regional campus. This won't be true for all majors, but for engineering your first year is very important and the main campus' curriculum is incredibly good. Those two classes are pretty much why I've gotten two of my internships.

    Hey j! I've watched some of your videos from way back when. Specifically because cause you go to osu. I start there in July and I was just there yesterday at go buckeye day. I was wondering if you could do a video on OSU social life. Like parties, making friends and clubs. Also a video on how to begin filming in college would be much appreciated. Keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully I'll see you around campus!

    • @JMontage
      @JMontage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the feedback! Couple things though... I don't really go to parties so I'm not the one to ask about that. And making friends/clubs are things I think you can learn simply by watching my vlogs. I don't think there's like a structured way to make friends, just be yourself. Clubs definitely help with making friends though because you meet people that are interested in the same things as you!

    • @JMontage
      @JMontage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

But i really want to get a good education, have some great social interactions and ultimately have a good novel experience.

      That’s a great question, and though I can’t speak from personal experience, this guy in my senior year capstone project was in his early-mid twenties. Thanks so much for the awesome video! I'll be there next year on North Campus with a scholars program (super hyped). To get the new dorms on campus for second year, does it help to be associated with honors, scholars, etc. or what factors go into how you assigned? Thanks!

      +Benjamin Smith no problem man! And yes some of the dorms are specifically for scholars programs so it is a major factor. Other than that I think it's pretty random

      Athletes, scholars and international students get priority for housing/options. Then general population. If you're ever extremely unhappy with assignments, especially roommate based, they will do their best to reassign you.

      This was a few years ago so it may have changed and I don’t remember everything but what I do remember is then having good Asian inspired rice bowls, grilled sandwiches, and pasta. Still is only dining hall food but it just seemed a bit better than some of the other places on campus. Hope that helps.

I am absolutely in love with Ohio State, it's my dream school. But I'm afraid I won't get in. Do you have any tips or advice?

    • @JMontage
      @JMontage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Shivee Chandran thanks my dude! Unfortunately there isn't much I can tell you that will all of the sudden make you more likely to get in. Ohio State's admissions is mostly based off of standardized test scores. Study hard and take them multiple times if you can/need to because they have a lot of influence in your decision. Other than that it's the usual advice: be a well rounded student, take on leadership roles in clubs/sports, etc. Just be yourself in your application and talk about things you're passionate about. Make sure they know who you really are rather than trying to convey someone who you think they might admit. Hope that helps and best of luck! Keep me posted with everything!

    • @JMontage

    • @JMontage
      @JMontage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my major, and I’ve made other videos about my courses but I would say it’s decently rigorous but there are for sure more rigorous majors out there. There aren’t a certain set of languages that are covered, but rather the languages & technologies you get exposed to depend on what courses you choose to take/your specialization. Hard to explain this all in a comment but I’m sure online you can see a more formal breakdown of different paths within CSE and what they entail

    • @JMontage
      @JMontage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Colleen Wright I'm a computer science engineering major. And that's a great question that if you asked me a year ago I'd probably have a different answer to, but here's my take on it now: Ohio State is very big. And I think I'm still developing/growing that tighter nit group. I wish it had been easier for me and I had that really solid group of friends sooner, but it's coming with time. That being said, a lot of people I know get lucky and have that right out of the gate here!! I don't know that a smaller university would've necessarily changed that? But then I wouldn't have the other benefits of being at such a big university. Maybe it's more about being totally confident in yourself and how/where/with whom you want to spend your time. Hope that helps a lil bit. Lemme know if you have any other questions!
