Re cornering I had the somewhat remarkable result of being a shade quicker in these on 2 laps of a short (just over 400m) road circuit with some bends sharp at a shade quicker than my 5K pace than in the Takumi Sen 8 which I had assumed was made for that use case. So yeah while cornering is "interesting" in the Prime X I do think cornering pro rata to "running" is rather overrated given you spend the vast majority of a run "running" ! It was less conclusive in an actual 5K ish length effort but the Prime X did well. I just find is disconcerting that it is so "wobbly" but it is certainly a "fast" shoe and a match for the "legal" ones.
Just a fantastic shoe. Used to be a Nike (Alphafly) guy, but now I'm turning my eyes towards Adidas because of these shoes. No pain in the knees as usual. So I'm totally with you on this one.
Had a light sprinkling of snow this week, the OG SL20 with the Continental rubber did an excellent job on the fresh stuff. Didn't seem to get overly wet feet too... fabrique belgique!
I have run in fresh snow with the SL20OG, and I third this comment. I retired my launch pair, but I have less than 50k in my adidas x Noah pair. ✌🏽💙🏃🏽♂️
After my first 2 runs in this shoe and hearing your opinion, I thought you’d lost the plot! Felt unstable and almost unusable. However, I bought I’d persevere and I did a 5 mile Fartlek today. Suddenly everything clicked and they worked exactly as you describe! God, I really get them now! Tip for small trotters (me size 7)- lace up as tight as you can all over to avoid excess instability
I’m off to the National Running Show in a couple of weeks and my no.1 priority is to try out the Adidas range. The love they get from you and others has got me very intrigued!
I known what you meant about being persistent with a running shoe. Don't judge negatively after the first run . This has happened to me in 2021 with the NB 1080v11 . At the beginning the shoe was strange, I thought I would not like it for running ... In the end I passed 200 miles with it and it was my 2nd best shoe of 2021 and the #1 surprise of the year as well. Great video as always Ed !
Hi Ed - heads up. Floatride Energy 4.0 now available, check JD Sports, for £75. Looking fairly similar to the 3.0's but nobody seems to have a review up for the 4.0's yet!
Bought these in the end for long runs and long run workouts. I love them apart from one major flaw, the area around the eyelits at the forefoot has cut into my feet. It's rock hard. I didn't get it the first couple of runs but now it's there everytime. If they sort the upper they've a cracking training shoe , as longg as you get it with a discount code !
@@EDDBUDtrue, the deviate nitro was similar in that it's design gave a number if people heel issues. I didn't get any, but can see why people did. Hopefully both can sort out the upper issues for certain runners as they are both great shoes. .. I'll try the thicker socks next, if that doesn't work then I'm gonna have to invent Addidas running sandles
Great review after grabbing a pair for a more palatable 155 and giving them their test flight.......(Can't believe that my feet have found 2 consecutive Adidas shoes that my feet love! Thanks for the review and nice effort on this long run! As it seems we have similar tastes in shoes, I was waiting impatiently for this review to see whether or not it would get me close to getting it. My verdict: as soon as Montreal winter is over and streets are clean, I'll definitely pick a pair mostly for long runs to complement my Adios 6 and Boston 9.
@@EDDBUD The day after my initial comment, Adidas Canada store only had only one left in my size in the amazing indigo colorway, so I had to pull the trigger (I'm a sucker for good looking shoes)... while it was shipping, I watched and read more reviews and started feeling unsure (mostly about stability) about whether or not I'd return them. Then they arrived and I said there would be no harm in trying them on the treadmill (it'd make it easy to return, and with snow outside well)... I ran a 5km from 7mph to 8.5mph and as a rear-midfoot neutral striker (who does a lot of ankle reinforcement on balance board), even with tired legs they felt really really nice, unlike anything else. Even walking in them felt less awkward than Endorphin Speed and if laced correctly I don't foresee issues taking corners even going to the track with them. Thanks again for the review! I totally agree with your verdict.
@@SofaKingA I love them. Mine have 120 miles so far and I find that they are ideal for long paced runs. They are ideal to cruise between 21.1k and 42.2k pace . I ran a 20 milers in them yesterday and my legs feel barely tired. I would say that they are not made for people who land on the exterior side of the feet. My city has a lot of slanted pavement and holes so I'm always careful where I step. I would say that the upper and lacing takes a bit to get used to and I think really thin socks might not be ideal as the lacing system could dig into the skin of some people...
I was fortunate to be able to buy one of these when it was launched months ago. In the first running session I used it I thought it was really weird. But, with time I got used to it, and came to the same conclusions Ed disclosed in this video. In fact, I’m thinking about buying another pair, the only thing that is restraining me is the price…
A very intriguing shoe, in addition to training it seems like it would be uniquely well suited to ultramarathons (with nice smooth and straight courses)
Great review Edd! Do you think you need to go up a half size in any Adidas shoes? I have the Adios 6 (which are great) but it’s a bit ‘snug’ in my usual size 11 👍🏃♂️
Great review, thanks. If the effort is less and your legs don't feel beat up - I wonder are you actually getting the training benefit of running, in your case, 14 miles? (like cycling 50 miles on a carbon superbike versus on an old banger?)
I get what you are saying Fergal, why run if you can drive, just being flippant obviously, but I suppose you are isolating some part of your training effect if everything feels easier, do they give you less training troughs and peaks on your legs but full effect maybe even more on your cardio respiratory? There is the point of view that they would suit a non competitive runner more than anyone as they would simply enjoy running more maybe? It’s just like the electric mountain bike issue, with the same net outcome, they aren’t going away while people can make money out of them and they are simply fun! and who’s to say that the constraints of any governing body are relevant to those who just enjoy the activity.
Happy New Year sir! Do you think with the conti grip and the "not quite as bad as expected" stability that this shoe could handle some flat, small aggregate gravel?
Think I’m in the minority on these but my pair lasted 3 runs and then I sold them, for me the Prime X was an absolute monstrosity. For some reason I always had DOMS in my calves after running in them, took me 3 days to recover every time, no matter how I adjusted my foot strike I was also loading my calves on eccentric contractions. Secondly the insole is needlessly thick given the amount of midsole foam. So thick that there’s a cliff edge between the insole and upper on the medial side of the shoes. This edge blistered both my arches to hell after 7 miles each time.
I've tried running with a bit of liquid sunshine in me, went like the clappers for the first three or so miles, but quickly crashed hard. Really need to buy these shoes at some point, got near everything else. Running is getting more serious now, really enjoying it, did a 31k double today. Don't forget to avoid dogs as well 😉
Very intrigued by this one. Genuine question though but usually I like to have my race shoes feel faster than my training shoes, and to have my training give me some indication of what shape I am in come race day. If these shoes feel so much easier to run in, do you think there is any issue there in terms of racing in less forgiving shoes, and also is it possible that come race day someone may think they are in better shape than they actually are? Great review, as always.
I don't think I would wear it for a race. I'm certainly not elite. But it would just feel wrong to me. I would rather run 30 seconds slower in a race than thinking about that I was cheating myself for true result. But it could be a good marathon training shoe. Just a little too expensive. Perhaps wait a year or two and you might see a good deal.
Hi edd .. I just bought the prime x (on sale) and I went true to size my regular size in running shoes 41 .. and there quite big 🤷🏽♂️ .. you also experienced the same ?
Shoes of this stack height just obliterate my running form. They seem to demand you heel strike and sort of bounce your way through your run. That and the fact that I am also compensating with muscles in my ankles and knees to not fall over from the sheer height of the shoe makes me think anything of this stack height is a ligament tear waiting to happen. I could be wrong but I’ll err on the side of caution with these mega stack shoes.
So are you saying you'd not run in a race because you think the outsole of the shoes if you were in a place where the quality of the road was good would you still keep them off of the race? I only run on the road (not rocks/grass/stones) so that's why I ask.
I do some of my long runs in a race-retired Adios Pro v1. However, I really wonder if it is a good idea to make long runs that easy, maybe the training effect is not as intended? Thus I also do some long runs in SL20s....
@@EDDBUD don't get me wrong 🤣, there is no such thing like easy 14 miles. I was refering to my own uncertainty if a long run in super shoes with less stress and a lower HR provides the same training effect as a long run in normal shoes

I think a lower stack on race day isn’t too bad for the lower distances. For a marathon many will need more cushion.
Sounds very tempting - but think there are too may potholes on even the long runs I do regularly.
The PX is by far the the best shoe in 2021, at least for me and if stability is an issue, it`s not the shoe it`s you 😁
Hasn’t been all that unstable for me I have to be honest.
I'm intrigued but with the hilly potholed roads around here I'd be asking for a turned ankle. I wonder what the stack is on a US size 13 iLol.
