    I have a 2017 facelift model and this 22 model will be my bike next year. I went to Scotland, from Somerset last year to try out the touring and it was fine, so the new model should be even better. I did 1200 miles without a single motorway mile and it was fabulous. Power is fine for all, except the guys who love hospital food.

    I love my 2019 so I sure the newest version is a great bike. Brakes work very good on the single disc, the front forks are slightly under damped but does offer a plush ride and handles good...just a tad pogo'ish in some bumpy situations so the new forks upgrade is a good thing.

    Nice review. I recently rode the 2021 and 2022 model CB500X back to back on the same day and I agree, the 2022 model is definitely improved in several areas.
    The brakes were better, especially in wet conditions.
    Handling was pretty similar interms of weight and how flickable it was but the suspension was an improvement, for sure - felt a bit more controlled and plusher.
    The engine power felt similar but much less jumpy on small throttle openings - much smoother at low speed for the 2022.
    Headlight also looked subjectively nicer!
    I ended up with the 2022 model. 😆

      @@ljoelmchanley3676 hard to explain really, the 2021 plate lights looked more like a strip whereas the 2022 has a distinct four led look, like the new 750 hornet. Apparently the 2022 has more powerful LEDs although I can't confirm as I rode them at slightly different time of the day.

    Great road test on the modern version of my bike on local roads to me :)
    Couple of points:
    1) Mine has the single disc which is adequate & is also a larger diameter than the new twin disc set up - So I don't think the new version is twice the braking power of the old one ?
    It may be better but not twice the power.
    .
    2) Interesting to hear his comments on cornering as mine seems very good; Mine has 17" wheels where as the new one has a 19" front. I would expect the new one to be slower steering ?
    .
    3) My mirrors need extenders which are great.
    .
    4) mpg is indeed amazing :)
    .
    5) The CB500X is great to ride: Engine is very willing, if a bit limited on power. For its capacity it is happy at any revs and pretty tractable.
    .
    6) Seat could be better, I use a gel pad &/or air seat.
    .
    7) I understand the engine mountings are different between the models. That could be good.
    .
    8) I have fitted an after market screen although the original one (on my 2014 bike) is smaller than the one on the 22 model.
    .
    Overall a great review of a great bike. I would certainly have another one.

      I tested one last week.
      1. Twin discs would also deal with heat better.
      2. 19" wheel is a little is to steer, but ok
      3. The mirrors do need extenders
      6. Seat was good but was only a short test
      Loved it!

    • @jutjub22
      @jutjub22 ปีที่แล้ว

      19" wheel and new forks make big difference on offroad and bad roads, 17/17 is just clumsy on bad roads, and offroad feels scary - amazing how much 19" makes a difference. also since 2019 there are new tapered handlebars and more steering lock, so it steers easier then with 17. wheel, but it is different feel how you turn. You get used to it quickly.

    I didn't expected the bike can roll out, in 6th gear, up a hill with 20 miles pe hour and the power usually is high in rev at this bike. Nice power band even for such a small engine and quite big of a bike

      Hello. Would be best to take it out for a ride yourself really mate. As you can only answer that really. It depends on how you are going to use it and what bikes you have you had. If you have been riding something with 150bhp it’s going to feel slow. Think it has enough power to cruise around on. It’s not going to blow your socks off 😀👍

  • @davidmatthews3093

    There was never a problem with braking with the single disc, look at the road tests, the new forks and dual brakes were no more than a styling exercise.

  • @BD002010
    @BD002010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How did you reach at the conclusion that 2 smaller discs at the front will brake twice as good as the single larger disc? One smaller disc has a smaller lever hence smaller braking force than the large disc. 2 discs dissipate heat over a larger area so there is an advantage if your name is Sir Brakealot but not twice the stopping power. Also the bigger disadvantage is that now you will pay Honda twice the money for the braking pads for less than twice the thickness and braking power.

    • @itchingtoride
      @itchingtoride  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t know at the time the single disc was bigger. End of the day the twin disc’s are going to be better. It’s just a improvement they have done on this model.

    • @davidmatthews3093

  • @MrBenHaynes
    @MrBenHaynes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It must be restricted somehow as the smaller engined CB400X makes the same power, albeit with less torque.
    This tells me that the 471cc motor in the CB500X has more to give.

    • @itchingtoride
      @itchingtoride  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. It’s that power so the A2 licence holders can ride it 👍

    • @MrBenHaynes
      @MrBenHaynes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@itchingtoride I understand that there's a power limit to be A2 compliant, and whilst it technically doesn't have a restrictor, my point is that it IS restricted by its tuning as the smaller 400cc motor makes the same power as the 471cc motor. I prefer my little motors to be optimally tuned. Still, the fuel economy benefits from the lower state of tune.
