I remember getting Cable Internet for the first time ever. I think it was less than a megabit per second? Went to a bestbuy, was browsing, saw the XBOX Live starter kit, grabbed it and showed it to my dad, then went to a kiosk they had and set up for Earthlink Internet that went through Time Warner lines at the time. Time warner had to come out and run WHOLE NEW LINES for it because they were so old (cost was on them). I remember hooking it up to my XBOX in my room, connected to my little 20" flatscreen tv, mom and dad was sitting on my bed watching me set it up and then watched me play my first game ever with whatever demo it came with.

Silent Hill 2 gets a remake , Metal gear 3 gets a remake , Metroid Prime got remastered , Resident Evil 4 got a remake , Max Payne 1-2 will get a remake so yes we will see exactly the same again 😂
Which proves my point exactly .... great, innovative games aren't being made anymore (well, very, very few anyway) so they have to remake/remaster the classics!@@silotx
There was just something different about gaming back then. You didn't have so many games at your fingertips at all times, so sitting down to play a game on a weeknight, or a weekend was actually a meaningful event that just can't be replicated these days. It's sad.
Kids these days don't understand. Our parents didn't care if we got kidnapped. They'd leave us at these demo stations for hours. They'd let us get chronic neck pain from the ones at Walmart.

It's crazy to think that it's not just the technolog, hardware and software in these videos that don't exist anymore, these shops don't even exist anymore, in shopping centers that don't exist anymore. Almost everything in this video doesn't exist anymore, and that's the true sad fact of this video.
Not much different. The big thing was back in 2002 a lot more places didn't take credit cards, so you often went to the ATM. Like if you want to get fast food or go to the movies you hit the ATM first. Annoying era.
I've never seen so many hit games in one location before! This video is proof the 2000s was the peak in video game history. Every other shot of this video has multiple hits in it. This is kind of nuts LOL
Oh man. Being a 5 year old kid in 2002 still brings me back. Having a Gameboy Advance for my 5th birthday and witnessing my father playing the OG Xbox was wonderful time I missed.
While every console generation up until that point was exciting and unique in their own way, the sixth generation was probably the peak of classic console gaming. I liked the seventh generation, too, but I feel like that's when we started to see the gradual shift to digital gaming and other trends that are so prevalent now. I know I have my nostalgic bias, but I was in middle school when the PS2, original Xbox and GameCube were all in full swing, so I felt like I was at an age where I could truly appreciate the fun gameplay and stories to all those great games at the time, while not having to deal with the stresses of grown-up life. This era of gaming has some of my most precious memories. This video is truly a time capsule for that era, thank you for sharing this!
It went downhill starting from the ps4 & xbox one generation and its even worse now with ps5 & xbox series X. I retired from modern since August 2020 and never looked back. Modern gaming is pathetic
2000-2012 was the best era for video games. I remember my friend Corey sand I going to a store called EB Games with like $20 and seeing what used game we could get. Amazing times.
Off by a good 6 or so years. It's the 1995-2005 that was the peak golden era. After that became the era of social media, phone and social media trash, and extreme casualization of the media.
Shit man good times! early part of my childhood. i remember being in toys r us in december 2002 trying out gaming consoles like ps2s and stuff! i got my original xbox back then with 5 games

@@thebasketballhistorian3291 While inflation conversion helps a bit, you also need to take into account the average income of the era. In short, people had way more cash to spend back then, and everything was a bit more reasonably priced to boot. You won't get a mortage for a 3 bedroom house for 30k in 2024.

Nowadays we have too many games everyone can make a game which is a good thing, but in my opinion a great gaming experience starts to lose its value, today we can easily find clues or hack on the internet without having to buy a guide book or asking a friend how to beat a specific level that you find difficult. also with steam we can easily download games without having to go out and buy rare original pc dvd bluray disc with great cover art for collecting. again ... experience like that to me is more valuable and you feel the experience and great memories in gaming.

I always tell myself that 90s and 2000s gaming was at its peak. Developers seemed to care a lot about their games when they released them back then.
