    The amount of interaction in Boneworks is impressive. Even though some aspects of the game feel a little clunky, i think that player being able to almost fully interact with environment is what makes this game so special. Boneworks is an awesome sandbox that makes the players feel like children again.

      @ClickNSpam so you say that sandbox and open world are two different things, but then in one of your other comments you get the meaning mixed up yourself lol. a sandbox game is a game that doesn't necessarily let you go wherever you want, it's a game that lets you interact with the environment in any way you want, like boneworks. an open world game is a game that lets you go wherever you want pretty much whenever you want, giving you objective markers that only advise you on where to go next

    People got to remember HL:A was built for everyone. In order to do that comfortably they can't have every type of interaction, because majority of people playing the game are not VR veterans. In fact heaps of people are playing Alyx as their FIRST VR game. VALVe made the right decision with the way they went.

      exactly. Half life alyx is like Half life 1 VR. Half life alyx is here to set the foundation of coming valve games, and to show VR's potential. Half life alyx is exciting because it means that what to come is going to be even better than half life alyx, and that thought is exciting.

      i'm on the fence. HL:A is without question the best VR game to date but not having the option to run/jump even as an option is rather annoying. I hope they address this later on. One thing I feel HL:A seriously missed out on is treating firearms like independant handleable object like and holstering or placing your gun on the side while you do something, Valves decision to weld the gun directly to the players hand is probably the worst thing about HL:A (even more so when considering Valve is pioneering their own Index contoller with grip/grasp sensing capability with this game). Even Pavlov does a perfect job of dynamic grip and holstering . . . and with all headset and controllers to boot so Valve have absolutly no excuse.
      That being said, HL:A is still a 10/10 game right now, love it and on my third playthough already

      boneworks is pretty flawed but they really did a good job and really went all in, maybe the team bit off more than they could chew within the amount of time they had which might lead to a lot of the bugs and optimization issues. half life had to play it safe because of motion sickness reasons which would turn away tons of new players and leave a bad taste on reviewers and in turn the opinion of everyone. I think valve couldn't have executed it any better than they have done already. Since half life alyx is critically acclaimed people will have more trust in valve and in future VR installments and hopefully they'll baby the player a little less and flesh out some more mechanics that boneworks couldn't really polish

    The problem with boneworks is the greatest feature: that you interact with everything. It's impressive in a controlled environment but when fighting under stress it gets pretty weird. Because you have a simulated body that you can't feel, but manipulates everything around you, and only control the hands and the head of. You draw a MP with extended magazine but can't shoot straigt because your non-existing arm collides with it and you don't know because you focus on the enemy in front of you, your hands glitch around and you get killed and have to walk back to your dying spot. You want to draw a gun or store a mag on your imaginative body but the stuff just isn't located on the place where it should be on your body and falls to the ground, through textures and sh-t. Then basic comfort features are straight up missing. No Checkpointsaves, no inventory - you lose all of your equipment at the end of every level, you can buy a limited amount of weapons at the start of the next level but that is just breaking the immersion pretty hard because you feel like you just finished a carnival ride and enter the next one that belongs to somebody else. You have a very nice Slo-Mo button to do matrix-moves but it is bound to the same controller you have your walking stick bound to so you can choose to slo-mo OR walk around but not both comfortably....and you can not remap anything. You can enter the Pause screen via a button on both of your controllers but walking while john-woo-ing is not made that easy. Don't judge me too soon, Boneworks is a great game and a real prove of how relevant VR gaming is nowadays in my Opinion and it is pretty cheap for what you get. But if you know H3, aka HotDogs, Horseshoes and Handgranades, made mostly by a single person, it is pretty disappointing how little progress boneworks made in its first 6 months.

    All and all. I think both games are great, just because 1 has more features than the other shouldn’t automatically make it the worst vr game. Valve envisioned alyx to be a story driven game more so than a “do whatever you want” game. And i think they struck a good balance on that, it has a lot of option for new players so if you get motion sick easily you can teleport or if you already play vr you can do smooth motion. I dont believe they wanted to go “all out” for alyx, just enough to get the players immersed.

      Well they were planning on using the crowbar in Alyx, but couldn't get it polished enough for release.
      I bet it'll be the first thing they work on for the next game though. Boneworks gave me an appreciation for the crowbar when I found out you can use the hook end of the crowbar to hook onto things so you can pull yourself up to places you couldn't get to normally. I'm not sure if Valve is ready to try letting the player do something like that yet though. Though we are somewhat able to climb ladders in Alyx. Though climbing using anything else isn't really a thing because it can potentially cause motion sickness if that thing moves around even a tiny bit.

    About the melee part for HL Alyx is actually incorrect, you can kill the headcrab zombies and headcrabs, but only with really blunt objects. Buckets and hammers really don't cut it, with computers, bricks you need to throw them at the zombies many times it's not economical. Headcrabs however can be killed by just a few brick throws or smashing them against walls.

  • @beedykh2235
    @beedykh2235 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Conclusion: *Boneworks* is more physics based with great physics mechanics, the downside sometimes physics actions can be awkward and frustrating. While *Half-Life: Alyx* have great physics too, but not everything is physics based on the account of being more mainstream and easier for new VR players, this prevent any immature VR physics mechanics.
    I guess no game can give you everything. To give something you need to sacrifice another thing.

      @MrWalldos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      for me, on the contrary, to see virtually a body that moves unrealistically, but simply hangs down from your head somewhere, or twisting arms is more unrealistic and interferes with immersion than just brushes. for in fact, in real life, your brain filters your body out of visual information, and until you want to look specifically at yourself, you don’t see it. like your nose right now - it’s in your field of vision 1005 times, but until you specifically want to see it - it doesn’t stick out in the middle of your perspective)
