Easily my favorite gag in G8 is when the Straw Hats are escaping prison, they’re caught in a pincer attack by the marines. It’s a one way path in and out, and there are marines at both ends, but because Zoro of all people is leading them out, they manage to get lost and escape. This means that Zoro’s sense of direction is so bad he can warp reality to get lost when it should be impossible to get lost

To fall IMMEDIATELY into a marine base? Shit, that's not even mentioning the fact that it gives MORE time just before water 7 to hear about the Merry's deterioration. With an arc establishing it before water 7, you have MORE time to hope for the merry to be fixed compared to being told by the best shipwrites that there's no hope only to watch Ussop coap for the rest of the arc until enes lobby. Love the summary of the end of Skypeia. They stole money that was freely given. Similarly, they beat up a villain til he left, when his original plan was just to leave (after a quick genocide lol)
Many years have passed, and disease is a thing of the past. Doctor Tony Tony Chopper, the greatest doctor who ever lived, lies on his deathbed surrounded by friends and family. Outside the house is an enormous crowd, covering every inch of space on the island and more as a vast assembly of ships stretch out across the ocean. In it stand all of the people whose lives Chopper changed for the better, who would have died or lost loved ones were it not for his great work. He never demanded their gratitude, but they have come to give it while they still can. The hour grows late and Chopper’s breathing slows. He looks into the eyes of those dearest to him one last time, and speaks his last. “New… York… Citayyyyy…”
“Pulled out a seashell and farted. Then everything blew up!” Has there ever been a group of nonsensical and hilarious words so aptly describe the event while also not being possible. I love imagining the commander explaining to Sengoku just what happened while Sengoku has to keep pausing and yelling at Garp to get up off the floor and stop laughing.
5:11 I have worked as a chef for the better part of a decade and the sheer amount of crackheads I have had to work with is insane, I think Sanji made the right call. That being said, would I allow Luffy in my kitchen? Absolutely not, he is a special kind of crackhead, he is a danger to himself and others at all times and he will eat all the food prep. But if Luffy wants in the kitchen then Luffy is getting into the kitchen permission be damned, I think that's another reason why Sanji was smart to have Luffy join him in the kitchen because Luffy would have probably tried to make his way there anyway and this way Sanji can at least try to babysit the captain. Great video, I love this arc!
21:25 No, Commander Jonathan’s intentions were pretty clear. 1: He loves fishing and chess. Both require thought, patience, and forward planning 2: If they successfully capture the Straw Hat Pirates, then the Central government will have to acknowledge the base’s importance and stop cutting their funding. He did not really care about the gold, in fact he used it as bait with the whole intention of (most likely) loosing it all. And if not, donating it to a museum. (Dude was like, one of the few wholesome Marines to exist in the series)
Technically Jonathan is a Vice Admiral meaning he has Haki and was way stronger then the rest of the crew. But since he doesn't like direct conflict and prefers to fight with tactics he made plans to make use of his newbie marines and almost succeeded were it not for CON D. ORIANO. An unsung member of the strawhat crew. Despite it all even through the memory loss.... He managed to trick the marines and blow up their cannon allowing them to escape. Truly an MVP. Ah we'll never forget him. Hopefully he remembers his true identity and comes back to thr strawhats
Another good one. Actual laughter. Side note, Nami is the only nurse in that bunch, both Chopper and the actual hostage are doctors. I'll call her Doc Martin (not to be confused with Doc Martens) because I can't remember her name, but I do remember she faints at the sight of blood, and that was his thing.
i just imagine luffy almost accidentally kills everyone because he has zero concept of how hard someone can slam into stuff at high speeds because he's rubber
It needs to be said, that this ark is the only one that showcases how effective ship cook Sanji is. all the other times, he's cooking that gourmet stuff for a crew of upwards of ten, sometimes putting together enough party food for an impromptu celebration with dozens of newly made, exhausted friends. But this story takes time to show his philosophy from Zeff and what he learned from his ordeal of being stranded. You'd think in all the crew adventures, there would come a time when they are stranded, running from a Vice-Admiral or Warlord, and resort to eating mould, lichens, barnacles and rainwater. Yet here, we see just how resourceful Sanji is, more so than in the rest of the anime. Out of leftovers, he cooks a revitalising meal that I really want to see Binging with Babish try and replicate.
YEAAAAAAH G8 I don't care what people say or if it's supposed to be filler, for me this arc is the absolutely canon events between Skypiea and Long Ring Long Land. It just feels 100% One Piece from beginning to end. The Merry falling right in the middle of a Marine base is a fun situation, the characters feel like themselves, it builds on the previous arc with the dials, the waver and the gold AND prepares the canon following arcs with Usopp talking with the shipwright and things like that. It even created these Condoriano memes that keep living to this day in One Piece communities. Truly an hilarious arc.
The only thing that makes this filler is that Commander Jonathan was Admiral Akainu’s apprentice. No way an apprentice of his would be a calm, calculated and laid-back dude
Actually, I buy that part completely. Jonathan seems like exactly the kind of guy who would con Akainu into thinking he’s a fellow zealot and get him to train him in order to advance his own career.
I loved the video like always. Just wanted to share one of my fav funny moments in the arc is - when the crew wants to escape by flying - the way they just force usopp to use the impact dial and how afraid and unwilling he is. That was pure bullying esp with those faces 😂
Tehre was also the sub plot that Naveron was going to be shut down because there were no pirate threats in the area. But now the base has a justification and "repelled" a pirate attack.
4:44 The funny thing about Luffy here, though, is he's not actually posing for the camera... He's posing for *Sanji* who just happens to be angled in a way to seem like he's doing it for US, the viewer, who is the "camera." XD
5:24 I worked at a McDonald's and the guy I worked with was into uppers as he called it, anyway the dude worked as faster than 3 people and McDoubles would be flying out the window.
I love that the only medical personnel on the base was basically a school nurse with a blood phobia, and chopper was such a good doctor he had her performing surgery within the day
I feel like the Strawhats got easy to track after they onboarded Robin. "Where are those Strawhats?" (looks at map with a clear line of red pins) "Well based on the map of large shipments of wheelchairs for a sudden outbreak of broken spines, I'd say exactly and precisely at this spot here."
8:39 when you said that. My mind had this image of when Mr. Bean disguised himself as a surgeon shortly pulls down his face mask and gives the patient that knows him and can't say anything a thumbs up
My favorite thing about this arc is talking to my anime only friends about how amazing it is, then telling them that it's completely filler! They usually don't believe me until i show them that it's not in the manga at all!

Love the summary of the end of Skypeia. They stole money that was freely given. Similarly, they beat up a villain til he left, when his original plan was just to leave (after a quick genocide lol)
Don't you disrespect Condariano. That's a strong name, passed down through his family line from the Void Century! XD
The legendary Con D. Oriano.
@@doubl2480 ... YES
Heck if this is an easter egg XD The Will of D!
Captain jonathan is better at his job than fucking admirals. He has better understanding of how to be a marine than other marines.
Ha! A fitting end to a great doctor......from New York Citayyyy!
I don't know who cooked g8 , but they need to really come back
Wasn't it oda??
“Pulled out a seashell and farted. Then everything blew up!” Has there ever been a group of nonsensical and hilarious words so aptly describe the event while also not being possible. I love imagining the commander explaining to Sengoku just what happened while Sengoku has to keep pausing and yelling at Garp to get up off the floor and stop laughing.
I can't believe you didn't include Zoro getting so lost that he leads the Strawhats out of an ambush.
Both require thought, patience, and forward planning
2: If they successfully capture the Straw Hat Pirates, then the Central government will have to acknowledge the base’s importance and stop cutting their funding.
He did not really care about the gold, in fact he used it as bait with the whole intention of (most likely) loosing it all. And if not, donating it to a museum. (Dude was like, one of the few wholesome Marines to exist in the series)
OMG is time, the only filler that feels like fucking official
It always bugged me that one Sanji's coolest moments in the series isn't canon.
I've never said this in my life but "Time to watch so filler." 🤣🤣
😂😂 aye G-8 deserves it!!!
G-8 is the exact definition of a hillarious filler arc. also first :D
The Doctor Chopper segment made me think of asdf's "Hello I am real man, do you want to go skateboards?" cow
G-8 is absolutely one of my favourite arcs, and I’m glad you did it justice with this. Truly Jonathan is the best marine out there
BRO THIS JUST MADE MY DAY
The writer of this arc is THE GOAT
i just imagine luffy almost accidentally kills everyone because he has zero concept of how hard someone can slam into stuff at high speeds because he's rubber
YEAAAAAAH G8
I don't care what people say or if it's supposed to be filler, for me this arc is the absolutely canon events between Skypiea and Long Ring Long Land.
“Did you watch Ratatouille again last night?!?”
“That little rat is funny.”
Absolutely based line
5:25 as someones whos had to work with a crackhead in a kitchen I can confirm that indeed they are NOT DISCREET
Luffy is truly a master chef and a culinary genius for turning Chicken Tenders into Pizza Rolls and then into Pasta Balls 😂😂😂
G-8 might be the single best filler arc in anime History
"Be careful. They're *crazy*."
No, I would have never have guessed.
I really cant believe this wasn't canon, specially as it blends so perfectly with water 7. Even the pre- couptheburst at the end was marvelous
They can’t change it now tho :(
3:00 idk if that was the joke, but they literally did 💀
I can't hate Dr. Chopper, he gave me a new heart and taught me how to love again. Haha what an amazing line!
This got recommended to me right as I finished watching the arc
Commander Jonathan: Why are you here?
Zoro: Because our captain is an idiot with o impulse control
Commander Jonathan: What?!?!?!
chopper is doctors without borders
4:44 The funny thing about Luffy here, though, is he's not actually posing for the camera... He's posing for *Sanji* who just happens to be angled in a way to seem like he's doing it for US, the viewer, who is the "camera." XD
5:24 I worked at a McDonald's and the guy I worked with was into uppers as he called it, anyway the dude worked as faster than 3 people and McDoubles would be flying out the window.
I love that this guy is taking off, he’s great.
I love that the only medical personnel on the base was basically a school nurse with a blood phobia, and chopper was such a good doctor he had her performing surgery within the day
Thanx for this goofy , beeen a crazy rough couple days and as luffy is one my fav anime protagnoist, Thanks for the laughs king😄💪
Anytime my boy you can’t count on me for the laughs thanks for being here 🙏
I feel like the Strawhats got easy to track after they onboarded Robin.
"Where are those Strawhats?"
(looks at map with a clear line of red pins)
"Well based on the map of large shipments of wheelchairs for a sudden outbreak of broken spines, I'd say exactly and precisely at this spot here."
Comander Jonathan and roger are the only people is the series who wore their coats properly 💀💀💀
I love this filler arc.. It was so damn wholesome
