YOU DONT NEED TO REMOVE THE EXHAUST, CATS OR EVEN THE CENTER SUPPORT BEARING, OR OXYGEN SENSORS. You only need to remove the steering column U joint, and the driveshaft coupler to the back of the transmission. You don’t even need to fully remove the starter. All you have to do is unbolt it, disconnect it, and set it aside on top of the cross member. Literally it can be set aside without needing to fully pull it out. Also, you don’t need to even pop the hood aside from disconnecting the battery.
That is correct, I mentioned this at 3:57, and I will pin this comment so others know that *YOU DO NOT NEED TO FOLLOW THE GUIDE 100%* . I struggled to get those bolts with the exhaust in the way so I decided to just remove the cats/exhaust. In hindsight, it could be done without removing center bearing also. 👍
For those looking at this for an IS 250 I believe you have to disconnect exhaust regardless because the yoke is splined and inserted into trans as opposed to bolted on.
I changed out a transmission on my IS350 RWD about 4 months ago or so and I was able to leave the exhaust on. Only disconnected drivers side header . You have a lot less room but it's possible
It’s been a few years since I did this job. I can’t remember if it can be done without removing the starter. From what I remember, the starter does need to be removed. There are good amount of people saying it CAN be done without removing the starter, so keep that in mind.
Yes the only way is through the starter housing…also good idea to change your rear main seal while you’re back there. Also I tried it with a normal jack and definitely get the transmission jack
My 2010 rwd is350 is throwing p0983,p2714,and p0776 would it be worth my time messing with the solenoids or should I switch it out for a used one while I get the old one rebuilt. Kind of my only vehicle atm I’ve been dreading dropping the drain pan and seeing metal shavings y’all lmk please!
YES, it is absolutely worth your time to see if it's the solenoids. Check this video out: th-cam.com/video/6gnCfDVk6BQ/w-d-xo.html This guy shows how to diagnose a bad solenoid. If you see metal when dropping the pan, obviously, it's an indicator that the transmission will soon need to be replaced. As some have mentioned, you don't have to remove everything I've removed in this video. It just depends on how tight of a space you're comfortable working with.
This transmission isn’t really known have any serious issues so I’d feel confident in a low mileage unit. If you are unable to locate one for a reasonable price, rebuilding may be the way to go.
The only method I can recommend is using more leverage. You gotta have some ground clearance for this, but a cheater pipe + breaker bar should get them.

For some reason my trans won’t go into any gears. The car reads that it’s going into gears but it’s not moving at all

i couldn’t find the toyota atf-ws i used vavoline am i good it’s butter as chicken though
Great video. Do you think the steps are the same for an 07 is 250 AWD?
There are for sure some similarities, but the AWD is different due to the front driveshaft.
So you HAVE to remove the starter to access the torque converter bolts correct? Just trying to make sure I’m getting that information correct🤙🏽

Do you have to fill the torque converter I didn’t hear you talk about it
Nope the transmission I installed was a used transmission and was never drained. Torque converter was already full.
Very helpful video 🔥🔥🔥
When swapping the trans, do you need to reprogram the ecu/pcm to accept the newer one?
Didn’t need to do that. This transmission was from the same model year 2008 GS350. 100% plug and play.
Thanks for the reply, also is it recommended to replace the crank shaft rear main seal since the transmission is already off?
Yes, it's a really good idea to replace the rear main seal while it's off.
@@arapartsthanks
I'm about to do this on my 2006 is 350 trying to find a 2006 is 350 with low miles to swap
Anything else that should be replaced while in there? With the trans off?
Rear main seal is all I can think of. There are a few coolant hoses behind the engine also. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace those.
Have you done a manual transmission

Hi,Amazing job for transmission swap in the garage
So I don’t need the transmission to be programmed after install?
Nope. You can simply do a good ol fashioned transmission replacement in these cars without any programming or reflashing.
@@arapartsalso how much fluid did you put in?
Question is it better to rebuild a transmission or get a used one ??
This transmission isn’t really known have any serious issues so I’d feel confident in a low mileage unit. If you are unable to locate one for a reasonable price, rebuilding may be the way to go.
best vid thanks
How long did this job take
This can definitely be done in a full day. Due to filming and taking my time, this took 4 days
Cool video
bro these bellhousing bolts won’t come tf out

What size are the torque converter bolts?
It’s been a few years since I’ve done this job, so not 100% sure about this. From my memory, they were 12mm.
