Have to agree. I have the R5 and R6ii. It’s truly magical. So many little features that rock.
Thanks for the review and analysis. I've always been on Canon but when I decided to quit photography (yes, I know: WHY??) and take a break I was convinced my next camera would be a Sony. After testing both cameras I felt "more at home" with Canon and I never regretted it. Your review reminded me why I went for the R5. What I like most about your videos and shorts: they are informative, funny and even if one knows that you are a Canon guy you never talk ill about the other brands .At t least I did not notice anything major other than some eye twinkling sidekicks to Nikon. Which is fine btw (owned one as well) I'd love to see more comparison content but also more depth and details into features of Canon Cameras. I learned more on your youtube channel than reading the handbook of my cam. :)
Great overview. I continue to learn more about my R5 daily. Thanks.
Debateable...
I've shot a lot with the R5 before, and now own the A7IV. But the HUUUUUGE takeaway with all the Canon RF cameras is that Canon does NOT allow third party lenses, and the native lenses are expensive. On the other hand with Sony, I bought myself the A7IV along with the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and it's still cheaper than the R5.
For me, maybe the Lumix S5II/S5II X are the best hybrid cameras as of now, as it does more or less of what the R5 can do for much less money.
Great video! Watched so many and this one really covered it all
Loved this video.
For the length and insight and all the example photos shown.
Wish I’d found this earlier

I love youre videos! Thanks so much for them !
I'm absolutely loving my R5 all these years later. It's been perfect
I loved watching the very intuitive video and I'm very pleased to have an R5 and continuations of excellent videos hugs 😊
Love this analysis. Super helpful in expaining the pros and cons of higher end hybrid cameras, especially considering how many different options there are to choose from.
Thanks for a great review!
Great take on your perspective! I am a hobbyist and the R5 is/was too much camera for me when I was looking for a new Rig. I settled on the R6ii and I just love it. It does everything I need it to do and more. If I ever decide to try to make $$ with my hobby I know I will have a great base to start from and in time I will be able to upgrade to something else (the new shiny!). But for now, I will just take my shots and watch your vids! :) Keep it up!
Same, did LOTS of comparisons of the R6 and R5 and then the R6 II was announced and I got it. I'd say the R6 II is even better (unless you need 8K or 4K 120). The R6 II is better in almost any way, and it's way cheaper. And I've compared the 24 and 45 MP files by upscaling the R6 II files in Adobe Camera Raw and there was little to no difference even viewed at 100% on a 5K monitor. If I use the "Enhance" feature, the R6 II files at 45 MP files look even better than the R5 native files.
With the $2000 I saved vs getting and R5, I got a 70-200 2.8 lens!
I love the R6ii It's such a great camera (will eventually make a video on it). 24MP is more than enough for most people, and if I'm completely honest... both cameras end up getting used about the same amount when I'm shooting!
great work u are doing brother, love and support from Hunza Pakistan
All good points...but best Hybrid (budget aside) I'd have to say is the Z8...to me anyway.
Amazing! I need more of these. Aboslulety loved. I am amazed as to how similar my opionin is to yours. I currently use a M50 MKII, but I would love to get the R6 MKII
Nice video... I love it when you read the comments and most don't even have the R5. Want want want. But no real idea. The R5 is the camera that I imagined would one day be available for multiple shooting scenarios. I still have my 5D mk4 and use it along side the R5 so I kept most of the EF lenses. Coming from the film only days and then the scary change over and digital bloopers todays systems are next level photographic enjoyment. You forget to mention those of use that have shot canon for years and may have been in the eco system. The lenses are almost if not as fast adapted than new native, and having the ring adapter gives you all the options you'll ever need, change when it's needed or if desired. There's no battery issues with the R5 depending on how you use it. I can go all day in the wilds, in minus temperatures, combining photo still and video (use the high res view finder) you can gain access to everything and keep your eye on your prize. One thing I'd like to mention is the more they update adobe software and the larger the files we shoot, the better the computer you need. To be honest, once I've updated the macbook pro of 10 years that's struggling with todays workflow. I don't think I'll be changing camera body for years and I've been using the R5 sine it came out. Unless photography changes dramatically it's all i need to do what I do and more. If there's one thing I'd like it will be something to do super slow mo but that's just wish and perhaps something for the pocket that's still a real camera, you do get some that now object to the big boy lenses due to social media nonsense and boys in blue acting above their pay grade with no idea of the law. As an experienced photographer I stand by the R5 as relevant for now and into the foreseen future. Just a note to all. They've snuk in changes to the use of the anti terrorist laws so they can scew them to suit even when you're in a public place where, you're obviously not using your equipment of any wrong doing where, the anti T law was made to protect us. Photograph the world now and future as it's changing in a bad way because of bad people. On a good note, photography is for life not just for christmas.. Enjoy.
R5 is still competitive but they need to come out with firmware 2.0 (or mark2) that includes all the nice things available even on the lower budget options like R7. AF modes, digital hotshoe, etc. Switching between R7 and R5 right now feels backwards to me, R5 being the one lacking in software, despite being 2.5x more expensive.
I've been looking to upgrading my camera and I've honestly been debating switching to Sony, but the fact that Canon camera's video are close to the Sony's, but having better photo like an FX3 vs R5 it makes me want to stick with Canon
R6 ii has 3 cusom shoot button settings for photos and 3 for video. That's actually why I use it as a full time architectural photographer and videographer.
hey there! would love to see a video about the cameras youve mentioned for casual photographers like the r10 r50
Great video! really made me wanna buy this damn good cam haha
Thanks for all your content!
I’m switching from a crop Nikon dslr so this is big shift for me. I’m going to go for the r6ii and invest in the best glass. I’ll then make some money and be able to buy the r5ii when it comes out and keep my r6ii as a second camera.
Great video. Thank you.
The Canon R5 is nice but I ❤ my Sony A7R V, especially paired with the Tamron 35-150mm. I think most cameras that are coming out these days are excellent and it just comes down to your needs and preferences.
Completely agree.
Canon r5 mark 2 is coming 🔥🔥🔥
Anthony! What are YOU TALKING ABOUT! The R6 Mark II DOES ALLOW CUSTOM MODES! The same as the R5 for both video and photo... you get 3 of them. Exactly the same as the R5 and you don't need the top screen to use them. Also, you can switch modes much faster on the R6 II because of the dedicated video/photo switch and top dial. :)
working in a camera store, i think Canon is making the best feeling bodies right now. The materials, button layout, and of course the autofocus are best in the game.
Unfortunately The R5 and R6 are also the most returned and DOA cameras ive ever seen. Lots of QC errors or the mainboard just dies within 6 months. If they fixed that it would be perfect.
Flipside, Nikon is a step above in lens quality right now. the build, feel of the rings, and design are great. Sony has selection and something for everybody.
Thanks for the video. Comparison between the Canon R5 and Sony A7RV would be great!
love it
I love your videos! Question- I have an R50 and 100-400 5.6-8 and I’m really struggling with noise in low light. I primarily shoot wildlife in not optimal light conditions. Should I invest in an R5 for low light/cropping options or a lower aperture lens to go with my R50? My budget is $3500. Thank you!!
I'm an amateur photographer, recently retired, and I would hate to be without my R5. I expect that it will be my last camera. I love the thing. But, even more than the body - I love love love the fast 1.2 RF primes. They are very special lenses.
YES! I might be doing some content with the 1.2 primes soon. Can't wait to shoot with them!
Please do a direct comparison b/w Sony A7RV and Canon R5 iI would love to see that!!
I have an R5 and an R6, I am waiting for Canon to do a firmware update so you can confidently use Sigma EF lenses [obviously with mount converter] as there must be a line in the firmware saying don't bother focusing. Strangely the R6 has a hit rate of 70% compared to the R5 of 20%.
Also the R6 II battery live is better than the R5 by a fair margin.
With the $2000 I saved vs getting and R5, I got a 70-200 2.8 lens!
I've compared All I vs IPB and there is no difference at all.
But I don't like the body shape so sucks
Hi.
I’m new to photo editing.
Would you please recommend software which is easy to use and works well with iOS.
Thank you and keep up the great work!
I’m planning to purchase r5 but I’m really interested in r6ii as well, I do mainly portrait photography and for social media videos which one is better for portrait photography?
Thank you
I only shoot stills and have an R6 and want a second body -- either a R6-2 or an R5. I've heard that if you already have an R6, moving up to a R6-2 is not worth it, the upgrades just aren't enough suggesting a R5 for my 2nd. Would welcome any thoughts.
What is a good starter camera focused for only photography
Hello, are the 30 minute recording limits maintained? And is that limit in all formats? thanks
Can you please review the Canon R7? It would be really helpful. Thanks!
I’d rather shoot with a canon body. I absolutely loved the R6 mk II. But canon’s stance on lenses, not allowing bodies like the R5, R6 mk II or the R3 to not have C-log 2 and not having any 1.4 RF L primes have put me off, for the time being. If they can correct those issues I’ll definitely make the switch and come back. Until that day comes, I’ll have to be happy with my A7IV and FX3. Thinking or renting the xh2-s🤔🤔🤔
i been looking to get a r5 but i notice when watching this video and others but whenever you move your hands it makes the focus pulse is there anyway to stop that i use a c200 so with face only it doesnt do that and also on my old eos r it never did that
Hello I’m looking to get into landscape and sports photography and film some surfing movies and play around with movie effects on davinci resolve is this a good camera for me
Just curious what do you think of lumix / panasonic s5 mark II?
Can I use my L Lenses from my Canon Mark 4 with this camara?
For example my 70 to 200, my 85mm, and my 35mm? Thank you.
Is 20mp on a camera (like the EOS R6) enough for proffesional use (such as Event, wedding, portrait)
I’ve been Canon for life but I don’t think I’m leaving Sony after switching. No company is perfect, but Canon not allowing third party glass is just outrageous, I can’t support a company like that.
I think this year will be the big test. Canon has introduced a lot of "inexpensive" bodies: R10 R50 and now the R100. It would be great to see more lens options for those shooters!
Yet another third party cry baby.
@@bngr_bngrwhat?
@@bngr_bngr?
@@bngr_bngrCanon glass is great, but if you're a freelance videographer or a production company using hybrid cameras and not cinema glass, $2500-$3000 for one lens is outrageous, especially if you need 2-3 bodies, and 2 of each lens in some cases.
The Nikon Z8 is currently the best hybrid camera in the sub $4k category. The only other camera that really competes with it is the Sony A1, a $6.5k camera and of course the Nikon Z9.
I've gotten the canon r10 recently and it's great! But I realized that the crop is more annoying than I thought it would be, so I'm considering getting a r6mk2 someday but not yet, I may very excited for 3rd party lenses tho
That’s me rn, now I can’t decide between the R6ii ($2,299) R5 ($2,999)
Is it possible that the Canon R have a terrible read out?🧐
Or am I just doing panning shots the wrong way? 😅
I have been a Canon user for almost 10 years and got my first mirrorless camera (R6) in 2021. I really liked and enjoyed that camera so much! However, when I started to build my lens collection for my coming business, the RF lenses were really expensive and the idea to go for Sony was really attractive. This year, I switched to Sony completely and got lenses that I always wished to own. With all being said, I honestly miss Canon and its usability. In my opinion, Canon R5 is the best hybrid camera right now for the price, and I sometimes think of going back to it but selling all the sony lenses will be a hustle. Right now, Canon R5 really ticks all the boxes for me, and getting a Sony camera with exactly similar features as R5 would cost me almost double the price of Canon R5.
What do you think Anthony?.
That's a tough one. On one hand new cameras come out all the time. Sony is said to be releasing new cameras in the next few month, but Canon will be as well! I would wait to see what the next few months have in store before making a decision.
Sony A7RV is really close with Canon R5. Some specs are better than Canon. For example slowmotion with sound.
@@AnthonyGugliotta You’re right. New cameras are coming out all the time, and hopefully a new Sony camera will come out soon with similar specs as Canon R5. Thanks Anthony!
@@henakos Sony A7RV is definitely a fantastic camera. However, the video cropping and low frames per second in photo shooting are quite deal breakers for me. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!
@@AlkindyBoy I like a lot that 1,2x crop in 4k60fps, I can use aps-c lenses and get super stable wide footage. For example Samyang 12mm f2 lens with 1,2x and active stabilisation crop, I can get under 17mm full frame ekvivalent footage.
Thank you for the info…. Im looking to upgrade from canon m50
Yees... I just buy Canon R5 and a whole set filters from Kase, can't wait to take my first shot!
What is Dual Pixel RAW? Is it compatible with Lightroom?🙃🧐
I need advice and opinions. I'm a beginner freelance photographer and sometimes shoot videos depending on the client's requests. I'm currently using DSLR Canon 80D and wanting to upgrade to a fullframe mirrorless camera. At the moment I'm still contemplating on getting the R5 or R6 mark ii. The price range of these two cameras are huge in my country, we're looking at RM10K-RM12K for the R5 and RM7K-RM9K for the R6 mark ii. At first i was looking at the EOS R but it's RM6K. I would appreciate any recommendations also. Looking forward to be a pro someday 😅
Still shooting on M50 was thinking of switching to R7 soon until canon kill EFM and introduce RF... Now I have decided to move to Sony A7iii or A7 iv...
What about the LUMIX S5ii..?
I recently purchased the canon EOS R 5( new),, but when I went to the Canon edge website to register my camera ,, it said my Camera's WARRANTY will expire in 3 months!!! Anybody explain HOW?? PLEASE explai
Except the Ibis when walking and talking in the camera (even after the firmware update) is not good at all. Only reason I'm waiting for the Mark 2.
R6 mkii is so much better of a deal. Its just great
Brother what do you think about the Sigma lens 18-35mm on Canon EOS R as a beginner
I have that exact set-up for video in 4k- It’s a fantastic lens, but it won’t work well in 1080p in full frame mode because of the crop factor. The camera makes nice 4k video, but the rolling shutter is so bad, it can only work as a tripod mount. The autofocus motor is so loud, you will need to do an external mic that’s isolated also. Otherwise the lens is very sharp and allows very close focus.
@@jerryloradrifter You suggested me a good lens for Canon EOS R and a suitable price I want to start making video
At this point, people should wait for the R5 mark ii...
How about R8 for Video?
Lenses for hybrid shooting?? 😢
Fuji please
Only use the r5
ANTHONY! Weird question. I've been shooting on the M50 for 3 years. It's time to step up BUT, I was GOING TO buy the R7. I don't have an issue shooting APSC obviously BUT, I just found a CANON EOS R WITH THE 24-105 RF kit lens for $800! thats half the price of the R7 WITH A LENS although its the crappy 24-105 NOT the F4 all the way thru. Yes? No? Go for the R7? the R8? Thoughts?
Bo
@@alex--gall kinda but not really, why?
@alex--gall I'd be more curious why you ask? I'm kinda poor, but see a future in TH-cam, why?
So why not the R6 II?
A few reasons, big one mentioned in the video is higher resolution photos, more video options, more connectivity, and honestly... I really love the top screen. That said the R6ii is a great option at it's price point; but technically the R5 is still a more spec'd-out camera!
Why R5C is not as good for stills as R5??? This is the same and R5C is much better for video
What's a feature you'd love to see in a hybrid camera?
Waveforms and Vector scopes... so Canon and Sony consumer cameras are a big no no
Make Sony camera review
Sony a7 iv...
Hey
Hi sir
I text you on Instagram couple of days back I need a suggestion about taking a new camera 😅
I want to be a professional photographer I am planning to get into doing diploma course
For that I need a camera I already have 600D conon but I need to upgrade can you please help me with it
I couldn't disagree more... 24MP cameras are more than enough so there's plenty of options.... but Canon is at the bottom of most not influencer lists.... the closed off Lens Mount is just a huge disadvantage.... anyone who wants to buy a new camera and isn't already bought into a system.... SHOULD get the Panasonic S5II/S5IIx the price is just unmatched by the other brands, you get features that Sony and Canon only lets you use on their Cine line... and you get Sigma, Panasonic and Leica glass... second choice would be the Fuji X-H2s and third would be the Sony A7s III.... Canon just doesn't offer anything that the other cameras don't have except that it's more expensive
Good information, but I’m gonna stick with my Sony.
Sony all day
wow gimme dat lmao
R5 still miles ahead any Sony camera, they are all crippled to make the A1 look good
R5 ? Now ? You should drop your fanboysm and be more objective.
Love how you skipped the comparation with nikon z8, but mention the nikons autofocus being bad.
Good luck with that purple tint.
The Nikon Z8 is in another class of expensive. If you had said Z9 I'd maybe take your comment seriously, but it also sounds like you didn't watch the video I posted right after this where I said the Z9 is the new camera to beat at this price point.
