David sings every single song with that kind of emotion. He believes what he sings as a man of God. He owns this song. That is actually a theater they are in and all those people are The Who’s who of gospel music. The Gaither Vocal Band is part of it, they, at that time, consisted of Bill Gaither (bass)Guy Penrod (lead) Mark Lowry (baritone) and David Phelps as tenor. Welcome to the world of Mr David Phelps. He will continue to blow you away!!
God given freak of nature! There is no Tenor around today that fashions a song like David Phelps. He takes the greatest arrangements available today and elevates them to spiritual and eternal perfection that I believe even God is pleased by!
I am so glad you have discovered the world of David Phelps. He is an amazing singer who sings for the Lord, but has done other music besides Gospel, including Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing", which, at the age of 52, he sounds fantastic! May I suggest the following:. Song for Sinners, He's Alive, End of the Beginning, Five Little Fingers (sings with his two daughters... beautiful harmony), Let Freedom Ring (a live performance done a few months after Sept. 11), Just As I Am (from Stories & Songs, Vol 1), Heaven's Shore, and, well, any of his music! He sings from his heart with an amazing voice. I've seen him live, and met him, many times, and he and his wife are very nice and very humble. Thank you for your beautiful reaction! Have a very Merry Christmas and a very wonderful New Year!
wado Miss Lisa for recognizing that David Phelps is singing for AND to The Lord. It is obvious that you heard AND paid attention to the LYRICS of this beautiful song about Jesus Christ😊.
It never gets old each Christmas watching reactors be introduced to David Phelps. He is one of the best vocalists ever! And yes, anything he sings he sings from his soul. If you are looking for some recommendations I would suggest: Being Alive (with Voctave!!...audio only though) I have Nothing (cover of Whitney Houston song) No More Night (another one that is sung with the Gaither Homecoming friends like this one was) Let Freedom Ring (as part of the Gaither Vocal Band....the harmonies always give me chills on this one!)
There's nothing like hearing David Phelps live for sure! In person, it's even another level that you can't imagine. And he is that present and passionate in every song he sings... he is incredible! Lots of great ones for you to react to... No More Night, We Shall Behold Him, The Dream, I Have Nothing, Let Freedom Ring (with the GVB), He's Alive... you can't go wrong with anything he does. You're gonna LOVE this ride. Merry Christmas!
The pianist is Anthony Burger. He and David played off of each other's strengths. They were a remarkable combination. Anthony passed away in 2006. David Phelps is the best Tenor I have heard in years. He was classically trained at Baylor University in Texas. He writes many of his own songs.
David is incredible and a gift from God. For another gift, you should check out Mary, Did You Know? as sung by Voctave featuring Mark Lowry. There are lovely versions out there, but no one sings it like Mark. He wrote the lyrics and when he sings it, you can hear his faith in every word.
Here are some of my favorite David Phelps songs: No More Night, End Of The Beginning, We Shall Behold Him, Let Freedom Ring ( Live at Carnegie Hall), and I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston’s song) and He’s Alive.
Where have you been? Do you realized what you've been missing? The greatest voices ever.So there's much more where that one came from. You've haven't hear nothing yet! 🙏❤❤👏👏👏
My guitar teachers...both of them....were asking me...who I thought might be the very best male Singer that I've ever heard....and one name came immediately to my mind....this man.... David Phelps.....!
David Phelps has been a favorite for years. He has originals as well. He's actually a Christian singer for the most part but he also has done other songs like Unchained Melody and I have Nothing
Such a moving and powerful performance. Listening to him gives you an out of body experience. Two songs to listen to are No More Night and I Have Nothing. Loved your reaction. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Great reaction! Next you won't believe it when you listen to 'We Shall Behold Him' on Utube. This video you just played was from 2000, at the Alabama theater. Love your accent..
Lisa, 1st time viewer. I've watched 15 or 20 reactions and you seem to be more of a person to just give us your true feelings and not just disect every single note. Lots of these people know their craft, but you seem to know your heart. You seem to be at a loss for words at times!! David is a classically trained singer. He studied at Baylor University in Texas. I think he has the finest tenor voice in music today. None even close. I hope you will look into him and do more reviews. He is really good, ISN'T HE????
Bill and Gloria Gaither are gospel music songwriters who have drawn together a group of gospel singers that are known as the Homecoming Friends. They consist of solo performers as well as gospel groups. They travel all over America and the world producing cds/dvds where they sing great music. If you enjoy gospel music or if David Phelps whet your appetite then listen to Guy Penrod, Russ Taff, Lauren Talley, The Gaither Vocal Band, The Booth Brothers, Greater Vision, Jessy Dixon, Jake Hess, George Younce, JD Sumner and the Stamps, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Amy Lambert and many others. This is some of the greatest music ever written. Also please get a hold of Elvis Presley’s gospel catalogue it was the music he loved and it is the music that will blow you away.
Every.👏🏼Single.👏🏼Song.👏🏼David sings.👏🏼Is.👏🏼A.👏🏼Sermon!👏🏼 The Holy Spirit speaks THROUGH him to all who are willing to hear. David is amazing! This version is from 2000. I had the privilege of hearing him sing it live two weeks ago and he is STILL amazing at 53 years young! Thank you for reacting to this. I recommend you react next to End Of The Beginning live at Carnegie Hall as well as Let Freedom Ring, We Shall Behold Him, Heaven’s Shore and his cover of I Have Nothing for starters. Looking forward to more reactions in 2023.
Im not a believer but i love watching gospel singers because they have so much talent and passion in their body. Ive seen david live here in Searcy, Arkansas (U.S.A). He absolutely killed it. Ive never heard someone sing as strong as him.
I've seen David in concert three times this past year and he is amazing!! Everything you heard in this video. Please check out more of his videos. Start with a video of him and his daughter Maggie Beth doing "Water". She is also amazing!!
How did I miss this one?!? 😲 REALLY Spirit filled! That's David when singing gospel! He believes it and receives it and sends it back out to the world! ❤
That’s “the voice” David Phelps… he is an amazing artist… as been said time & again - he could sing the phone book… this was videoed at the Alabama Theater in Birmingham, Alabama USA… David is an inspiration to all who hear him… his music comes from his heart and soul♥️
Thanks for listening to David’s version!! Doesn’t get any better than this one! David has done so many more songs listen to his Easter song sing “the end of the beginning”; “Let Freedom Ring”; &. “Water”! David has four children who also sing like angels! I’m singing “Holy is the lord-holy holy holy”; “He’s Still my Child”; &”Five Little Fingers”!! Beautiful reaction!! Merry Christmas🎄🙏🏻
Just some background about the Gaithers and Dsvid Phelps... Bill and Gloria Gaither are songwriters/singers in the gospel music world. The people you see behind David in this video are past and present powerhouses in the world of gospel music. The Gaithers recorded many of the concerts that they did. This recording was done in Birmingham, Alabama, at their city opera house about 25/30 years ago. At the time of this video, the Gaither Vocal Band included David Phelps, Guy Penrod, Mark a Bill Gaither. The large group was the Gaither Homecoming Choir. David is now 53 years old and is a huge figure in the gospel music world. He has just released a new album with some of his best work to date. You should listen to his version of Whitney Houston's classic, "I Have Nothing." It is hard to believe that David is just reaching his prime vocal years as he enters his 50s. On a side note, the pianist, Anthony Burger, passed several years ago at the young age of 44 while playing on a Gaither choir cruise. He had been with the Gaithers since he was 16. I hope this gives you an idea of the people and timeline for this video. Merry Christmas!
Your accolades and sincere response to David's rendition of this beautiful carol are spot on, Lisa. His strong faith in God is always reflected through his incredibly gifted voice. He's top shelf in my estimation, sings across genres so beautifully but his great gift is through gospel songs. Thanks for playing this video and for your reactions. Lyn Lockrey, Australia.
He is unquestionably the greatest tenor in recent years. This was 11 years ago and he has established himself as one of the greatest. He has many recordings both spiritual and secular. I can listen to him everyday. One of my favorites is his arrangement of "Unchained Melody" which stands on its own. Love your genuine reaction.
This video was actually made in 2000 so it was 23 years ago. David just had a birthday and is 53 now and is just as good now as he was then. He writes and arranges alot of his own music. He's doing solo work now and occasionally still works with the Gaithers. He went to Baylor University in TEXAS and got his degree in music. His professors wanted him to go into the opera and he did alot in school. He felt called to sing Gospel and mainly does it. He does do some other type songs and still sings opera. Listen to him sing Nessun Dorma. It's excellent! Welcome to the world of Phelps Phans. You have just been Phelpsed!
Absolutely loved your reaction to the first time hearing David Phelps, very good explanation of how great he is. You are in for the ride of your life if you continued to react to him. The songs on some of the other comments are just as great as this one. Please react to more of David Phelps phenomenal voice, he is one of a kind as well as his daughter Maggie Beth. I would also suggest you listen to Ave Maria / the Lord's prayer by David. Absolutely stunning. Thank you for your reaction and Merry Christmas 🎄
I just loved loved loved your reaction to this!!! if you want to hear more David Phelps, I recommend starting with "No More Night" a song about heaven, has the same WOW factor!!! after that, "Let Freedom Ring" which was aired after 9/11.
I like all of his live videos. Singing to people is his testimony, and it's always emotional and spiritual. I've been lucky enough to see him live and he does not disappoint.
Watch him live at Carnegie Hall w/Gaithers “End of the Beginning” although he sang several, this one when he hit a certain note people stood to their feet! Phenomenal. Enjoyed this and it’s almost Christmas 2023 in a few months! Time is a-flying ! I’m also glad you didn’t pause the song until he finished. That drives me nuts when reviewers do that . Maybe it’s okay sometimes, maybe on a replay. Anyway, thank you! 🌲🌟
The group behind was not a vocal 'group', just many small groups all connected to 'Southern Gospel'. Clearly, David's voice is not a typical southern gospel voice. Bill Gaither gave him a place on his vocal band, where he sang for many years. Now he is on his own, with perhaps occasional appearances with Gaither. His Barn Bash is where he presents concerts in addition to his touring. He is indeed blessed by God with a very exceptional talent. He uses it to bring glory to his Creator! Glad you have discovered him.
Have a listen to Sandi Patti as she is the doyenne of gospel music. Her several versions are the best ever and Sandi always ends with the octave tonic above whereas no other person does this! David ends on the perfect 5th and he's my second favourite. Greetings from Sheffield.
Unbelievably buttery smooth delivery on all notes according 👌🏽 👏 He reminds me of another singer decades ago who went by the name Mario Lanza (R.I.P). So far, there are a few who can attain and sustain such notes like this one displayed here. Thank you for your work Mr. Phelps. 🙏🏽
Check out "These are They" by Gaither Vocal Band in Jerusalem. David wears a light blue sweater. His notes and singing is just like you are describing!
Saw him perform in little Kingsport, TN, USA. Please check out No More Night, Unchained Melody, and Ne ssun Dorma. His interpretations unexpectedly bring you to worship. And I'm a Jew. Love all who find faith together in expressions of love.
Sorry folks....you are never, ever gonna hear it done or performed any better than that. David Phelps with that song is just on another level. And whether you are a believer or not....this is as close as you will come. Angelic !!
I have to explain what you just experienced is called the anointing when the Lord Jesus Christ anoints someone to sing to minister in that way, it will touch your soul, and this is what you have experienced, for the Lord Jesus Christ as anointed David Phelps, and this is why it touches the soul of someone and not everyone is anointed, but David Phelps definitely, absolutely is anointed of God Almighty And I believe there is more and better to come Ann-Marie united kingdom. I am myself a born-again Christian, so I understand I know what took place bye-bye 😃😊
First of all let me say that that is Bill gaither's and Friends. Bill Gaither and his wife and brother started up a group back in the '70s doing contemporary gospel. All the people you see there are professional singers from professional groups and that's with the friends come in on Bill Gaither and Friends. You got Jake Hess that was with a movie Lister and JD Sumner that was you know with them and you got the Blackwood Brothers and all these groups from way on back I mean even Howard and Vestal Goodman with the Goodmans. David sings with the Gaither Vocal Band which is Bill gaither's group. He is a master of music and a master vocalist. And you can look up Gaither Vocal Band featuring David Phelps on Google or whatever and it will bring up a whole arraignment of songs that they've done plus he does Opera singing as well. But I just wanted to give you a little rundown on David Phelps and Bill Gaither and Friends the kind of give you an idea of what you sing there and it is live music the band usually behind the singers and of course you seen Anthony burger at the piano which he is deceased now he died on a cruise that they were performing on. During the concert he died at piano. But if you want if you want to hear them like I say just type in David Phelps and not sure he will come up. But I like your reaction and just keep up the good work.
Hi Lisa, I absolutely adored your reaction to this song. I completely agree with everything that you said afterwards too. That performance was otherworldly. Did you notice at the end of the song when everyone was clapping that David clapped a few times too and stopped? I believe that he was clapping for God that gave him that unbelievable voice. He probably stopped clapping because he thought that people watching would think that he was clapping for himself. I added your adorable reaction to my favorites list. Much ❤️ for you. God bless.
Even better this was a live performance which is not easy to do. Sadly the piano player, Anthony Berger has passed away. David is my all time favorite performer ever.
Seven or eight years ago he bought a farm and moved to rural Tennessee where he does amazing concerts out of his renovated dairy barn. This one is great. th-cam.com/video/eBvGzrnirT8/w-d-xo.html Perhaps the best Whitney Houston cover ever by a male? At age 53 no less. th-cam.com/video/h5b39F-9458/w-d-xo.html The first to do a song about Alzheimers th-cam.com/video/94ma8nRq3u0/w-d-xo.html A sultry and bluesy song that's just stunning th-cam.com/video/7aY4w1OXbsU/w-d-xo.html
Welcome to the world of David Phelps! There is no sound on Earth like his voice! He is a wonderful Man of God!
You're the first reactor to explain that this wasn't a "performance" .... This Worship. Good for you
Amen❤❤❤❤❤

One that you must see is No More Night.
You are so right. When David sings it is a total act of worship. If you can’t feel it I feel so sorry for you.
David Phelps, That man is phenomenal! With the utmost respect I would say he is vocal orgasm... He is fiyah 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️💯
Yeah, that’s called God blessed TALENT.
'No More Night' is a must.
Listen to "No More Night" live by David Phelps. His breath control of every note and lyric on all his songs cannot be explained!!
David is anointed. And he respects the anointing. He's also humble, sweet, and surprisingly funny 🤗
God given freak of nature! There is no Tenor around today that fashions a song like David Phelps. He takes the greatest arrangements available today and elevates them to spiritual and eternal perfection that I believe even God is pleased by!
David Phelps is totally amazing.

Makes me cry every single time. What a gift DP voice is to us. Praise God 🙌
Hands down, one of the finest tenors in the world. He has an amazing voice. Trained as an Opera singer, is predominantly a Gospel performer.
There's nothing like hearing David Phelps live for sure! In person, it's even another level that you can't imagine. And he is that present and passionate in every song he sings... he is incredible! Best tenor on the earth. This was around 25 years ago. He’s gotten better. He’s still going strong.
“He’s Alive” and “Let Freedom Ring” are two beautiful songs
And “No More Night”
Also, End of the Beginning... :-)
It is well.
Live version of Just as I Am
David Phelps at his finest! I have to listen to this version several times a week. It is absolutely amazing!
Best male vocal I ever heard!!

Let Freedom Ring is another good one and No more nights and It is well with my soul and He's Alive.
Great reaction!!! YES….the ALL TIME BEST version of that song - EVER, EVER, EVER!!!!!
David is incredible and a gift from God. For another gift, you should check out Mary, Did You Know? as sung by Voctave featuring Mark Lowry. There are lovely versions out there, but no one sings it like Mark. He wrote the lyrics and when he sings it, you can hear his faith in every word.
He actually wrote a song for his sister who sang with him who has since passed with cancer called On Heavens Shore for her. It's AMAZING 👏
I’ve listened to that song a hundred times but never knew he wrote that for his sister. Thanks for sharing that ….
God Bless our Brother in Christ ......Sing it for LORD for he came to save the World.
Here are some of my favorite David Phelps songs:
No More Night, End Of The Beginning, We Shall Behold Him, Let Freedom Ring ( Live at Carnegie Hall), and I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston’s song) and He’s Alive.

The dream is a good song and he sang We will behold Him, flawlessly

David is a gift from God. In this performance, his faith and conviction shines through in every word and note.
Best male vocalist in the world and has been for the past 25 years. I can testify…I have seen him 11 times live from the front row.
Leaves you speechless, doesn’t it? If ever there were an anointed performance, this was it!!!!!!!
Absolutely you are correct he was singing it to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lord’s.
Go hear No more nights
Im not a believer but i love watching gospel singers because they have so much talent and passion in their body. Ive seen david live here in Searcy, Arkansas (U.S.A). He absolutely killed it. Ive never heard someone sing as strong as him.

Everything that David sings is always done with his heart and soul.
One of David’s best songs was from his Legacy of Love Tour. “The Star Spangled Banner” with a touch of Led Zepplin. It’s Amazing.

Sorry, Mark Lowry was the baritone in the Gaither Vocal Band. He wrote the lyrics to "Mary Did You Know."

You just heard a man share the Gospel of the Lord with the gift the Lord gave him about the Gift the Lord gave to humanity.

Best singer ever!!!
No doubt, best version ever.
Great reaction to a great singer!
Unbelievably buttery smooth delivery on all notes according 👌🏽 👏
He reminds me of another singer decades ago who went by the name Mario Lanza (R.I.P).
So far, there are a few who can attain and sustain such notes like this one displayed here. Thank you for your work Mr. Phelps. 🙏🏽
Beautiful worship! Goosebumps
Check out "These are They" by Gaither Vocal Band in Jerusalem. David wears a light blue sweater. His notes and singing is just like you are describing!
The Australian Homecoming version of These Are They is better than the blue sweater version actually taped in Colorado. I highly recommend it.
Merry Christmas to you. May the Lord bless you and your family.
Hope you do more reactions to David. "No More Nights" and "I Have Nothing" would be great ones to do.
I absolutely love seeing people's first reactions to David Phelps! Next check out David's recent version of Whitney Houston''s I Have Nothing.
The setting is a Gaither Homecoming concert in The Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama.
Excellent reaction!!!
Actually it's the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama.
Look for his CD David Philps Freedom.
Nailed it
He’s got a newer version of Oh Holy Night that just as great. And that was the Alabama theater.
The guy right behind him in the red shirt is Mark Lowry, the lyric writer of Mary Did You Know?
Hi Lisa,
I absolutely adored your reaction to this song. God bless.
Listen to David Phelps sing Let Freedom Ring
Watch his performance of "I Have Nothing." He sings it in the same key as Whitney!
He’s lived on the farm in Tennessee closer to 20 years, maybe longer.
