This is an example of the Holy Spirit taking over - pure perfection. He was supposed to sing more in the concert but was not emotionally able to. He was spent and visibly shaking when he finished.

If you don't know, David is a Christian vocalist so he remains under the radar but truly he is the best male vocalist on the planet and has been for the past twenty five years. I know...I have seen him 11 times live, met him multiple times as well as his family, been to concerts at his home....he is remarkably humble, gracious and greatly blessed. The best in the world and it's not even close...

I have listened to this for years and I still tear up. I love seeing people's first reaction to David, the expressions as much or more than the words they speak. David spent many years singing with the Gaither Vocal Band as well as doing solo work. Pretty much anything you choose with his name on it will be incredible. He has never failed to deliver! David is the "Greatest of the GREAT!" No one can compare to him, no one ever will! The wonderful piano player was Anthony Burger, he passed away a few years ago "while he was playing the piano!" His heart burst, very sad! He was a great piano player! These two were fantastic performing together

"We Shall Behold Him", "End of the Beginning "," No More Night", "Water", "One Wintry Night ", "One King ", "Joy Joy ", "Hark The Herald ", "We Are The Reason ", "Fall On Your Knees", "The Dream", "Nessun Dorma", "Hello Beautiful ", "Song For Sinners", the list goes on and on.

@@danwesley5826 I've been a fan of David's since 2002, my family goes to his Labor Day Barn Bash at his house South if Nashville, every year. We know David personally, he's been an incredible role model for our autistic son, he's always very kind and loving when they have conversations with each other.
If you want more from him, I highly recommend Let Freedom Ring and No More Night!!!!

The piano player was Anthony Burger, who played with the Kingsmen for years and was taken from us way too soon. This was LIVE in Birmingham, Alabama for a Gaither Homecoming concert. I have seen comments for No More Night, to which I heartily concur. I would add The End of the Beginning to that list. And the choir were many of the greatest names in Southern Gospel music. #subcriptionsquad

I know. I hear Bing Crosby's on the radio and I feel like he's just singing, not feeling the words as he sings. David adds emotion to the words and that makes it more powerful.

His daughter and him sing the song “Water “. What a treat for him to get to do a duet with his daughter and her to sing with the great David Phelps, her dad. Her smile at the end tells it all and is amazing.
Oh yes. Do a reaction to water. Maggie Beth was 17 when she sang this song now she's well into her twenties and she's doing amazing things of her own. There's a song that David wrote called "my child" Maggie knocks it out of the park.
I got to see David sing Nessun Dorma live and it is the greatest live performance I have ever seen.
David is a devout Christian & sings with his soul! 💖 And that "choir" is made up of every top gospel singer & group still alive at the time of the recoding! Gospel singers, Bill Gaither & his wife get these people together for these concerts. Mark Lowrey, got his start w/the Gaither Vocal Band & still performs with them whenever he can. It's like s gospel jam session! 🤗💞

My heart was broken when Anthony Burger died. So much talent!
His life story of his hands being badly burned as a small child, to the point that doctors said he would never have full use of them, and then to be playing piano professionally by the time he was 14 (if memory serves me) is nothing short of a miracle from God.
I'm 66 and I feel like this is by far the #1 rendition of Oh Holy Night I've ever heard! I'm not a big tenor fan, but he's my all time favorite.

Two things: watch his video cover of “No more Night”. Also, Mark Lowry, the co-writer of “Mary did you know” is part of this choir in the background. He’s seen over David’s left shoulder.
My wife and I saw him sing this live. I'm a trucker, never had my eyes leak without me knowing it. Especially in public. We still get chills thinking about thst performance.

One of the finest tenors I've ever heard. I'm 69, and have been in music all my life. Got to hear him in concert last November in Wake Forest, NC. It was his Christmas concert, and he sang this. All I could literally say was just WOW !
This concert was actually in 2001. He’s 53 now and his voice is just as amazingly fabulous. It may be time to go down a David Phelps rabbit hole. There is an infinite number of videos on TH-cam from his 15 years with Gaither Vocal Band, as well as his 25 year solo career. Tons of great videos and he never disappoints (I’ve seen him twice recently in concert). If you want a recent selection from 2021, at age 52, try I Have Nothing, his Whitney cover. His No More Night is a jaw dropper for sure. His more recent recordings, album show a more contemporary messaging and originals as well. But his I Have Nothing rendition is the most elegant, classy version I'v ever heard. Please, please PLEASE go react to more of David Phelps. He is regarded by Whitney as one of her top tenors I understand.

I have been a David Phelps "phan" for almost 19 years now, and I can tell you that his stage presence, with its incredible ability to draw you in, matches his stunning vocals Early on in his career, he was told he should go into opera, but David had the courage to follow his heart and pursue Gospel, often Southern Gospel (especially for years with The Gaither Vocal Band)--although it should be pointed out that he also is known for his secular works as well The word that I have always (LITERALLY!) felt with David is TRANSCENDENCE, and you, also will experience this is you're able to see him live And yes--he sooo makes each song his own! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He does an amazing version of “Bring Him Home” from Les Mis also. Can’t go wrong with a little David Phelps in your life. You could spend a couple weeks doing just his song and be amazed by all of them.

I LOVE seeing people react to David Phelps who have never heard him before. You did not disappoint. I know what you meant about feeling like the piano was competing for top billing, but I think that the way the piano was played was what allowed David to control the timing. Definitely check out his other songs. As a Christian, my favorite song that always brings a message of hope is “No More Night.” He can sing many styles of music and 10 years later he is just as good. Maybe even better. He trains and works hard to keep in top vocal form but he always gives God the glory for his very special gift.

“No More Night” is probably my most favorite David Phelps song. I also love “Goin’ Home.” But, there are so many that he does so well! He also sang beautifully “America” in the Impossible Dream, part of the Signed Sealed and Delivered series. He’s a national treasure!
This video is 20 years old. He trained at Baylor University in Texas as a classical singer.
So many of David's fantabulous songs have already been mentioned. One he wrote many years ago and it sat in the piano bench, and now his daughter Maggie Beth, sings is He's Still My Child. .one more to add to the list is from his Freedom album, I Want To Live Like A King......he also plays the piano in it.
Hey girl, congratulations first, this performance was incredible. His dynamics, pitch and delivery was almost completely flawless. The incredible pianist was Anthony Berger who tragically died of a massive heart attack he suffered on a cruise ship on stage playing for the Gaither vocal band. Like you, the first time I heard this I was NOT prepared for the stratosphere he hit. I remember sitting there just slack-jawed, asking the people in the room "what just happened???" You have been "Phelpsed" as we fans of David would say. He is the best vocalist I have ever heard. His portfolio of songs/performances is enormous. Every one is out of this world.

I've been listening to David Phelps sing since 1997 when the Gaither Vocal Band released their album God is Good, it was their first album with David. I was 9 years old then, and I have followed David's career closely ever since. Many people will give you songs he has done over this quarter century and they are all worth watching, but I'm going to talk about something that I appreciate about David and his artistry. He is a very gifted rearranger, and this is not just my opinion but are the words of Bill Gaither himself. The song in this video "O Holy Night" is one of David's self-professed "Favorite Christmas songs" and he sings it a lot, this performance though is one of a kind, I have never heard him sing it this way again. A few years after this around 2004 I believe, he released a solo Christmas album with this song and it's already different, fast forward a few more years another Christmas Album another version of this song, and so on until his most recent version done in 2018 where we see him change this song to a duet, change the title to "Fall on your Knees" and change the song in such a way I didn't even recognize it as "O Holy Night" for the first several months I listened to it, it just never clicked in my head what I was actually listening to was O Holy Night. But I've always appreciated David's ability to be creative and make music his own and unique not just copy the popular trend. That is why I think David Phelps is not only one of the greatest singers alive today but one of the greatest musical artist alive today.
I Have Nothing will leave you just as gobsmacked. Twenty two years later, he’s still got it. His arrangements are always so perfectly done. You hear things you’ve never heard before but the song is still true to the original. Bad thing is, only extremely exceptional vocalists can sing his arrangements. I have nothing is David, a piano, and a cello and is exquisite.

Anthony Burger is the pianist, he passed away in 2006. David Phelps and Anthony were a force to be reccond with. The syncopation that is throughout this song is amazing. David is 53 and still singing and writing songs at 53. He has an amazing history with The Gaither Vocal Band.

I'm so glad to see someone hear David do his thing for the first time! I highly recommend you check out literally anything from him, because he is incredible! One of the songs he did was Moonlight. He put words to the Moonlight Sonata, and it is such a beautiful song.

I've been waiting for you to discover this! David is a gift and his music is a blessing to anyone who listens.
When David sing "No More Night" it brings tears to my eyes. His voice is absolutely amazing. A little notice about the piano play, Anthony Berger.. Anthony passed away a few years ago while playing piano on a cruise ship. I believe he was only 44 years old. You can go to Wikipedia and read about Anthonys struggles after being burned on his hands when a baby and his parents were told he would not be able to do much because the burns were so bad. Anthony showed them though. Also listen to David sing " Let Freedom Ring" when he was in the Gaither Vocal Band. He will set you back on your heels. In my humble opinion, there is NO singer including tenor who can top David Phelps.

David had not long been part of this Group and was still very shy...if you watched the end he kind of moves himself into the background...but is pulled forward by Bill Gaither and made to take a bow. lol Such a humble man. Please do more from David. He is still writing and performing at the age of 50+ He recently did his own version of 'I have Nothing' a Whitney Houston smash hit....which just left me gobsmacked. He is AMAZING!! I've met him a few times at his performances and he is so funny, kind, and humble. We get to go see him perform in February near Phoenix!!! Can't wait. He's Alive is my 2nd favorite after his O Holy Night - which still makes me cry!!!
David is one of the best vocal talents in our lifetime. Even if you are not religious, I suggest watching more of him. All those people in the background singing are all famous gospel singers too. Every single one of them has incredible clarity and range, but they come together like a choir. If you watch enough Gaither videos, you start to recognize people individually. You also start to realize how much you can really feel something for music when the singer feels it themselves. It's truly eye opening.

We Shall Behold Him, No More Night, The Dream, I Have Nothing, Let Freedom Ring (with the Gaither Vocal Band)... those are some of the best ones, though pretty much anything is incredible. I grew up listening to David and have seen him in concert! He is SOOOOOOO underrated!!!! I highly recommend his performance of Nesum Dorma as well as "water" which he sings with his daughter. She is, unsurprisingly, a phenomenal soprano.

It is a treat to listen to gospel singers who are great artists in their own right. Southern Gospel has some of the greatest voices, David Phelps included.
Let Freedom Ring is a song he was on that he just crushed. He did a blind key change that he pulled out of thin air. He is unbelievable.
