  • Makeup can not only change the shape of your face but can also be used to correct the colour of unwanted skin tones. I've always used a colour wheel to help me decipher this often confusing subject.
This film demonstrates how to enhance skin tones with colour correcting makeup. I explain what a colour corrector does, and cover some of the most asked questions including, the best colour corrector for dark circles, how to cover pigmentation, and whether its best to apply your foundation, before or after you use the colour correcting makeup
I hope you find this film useful , please leave any comments below and I'll try and reply to as many as possible.
    Have a great weekend.
    Caroline x

This was so interesting and I'll be experimenting with a few corrector shades. Any chance that you would consider filming a vlog about identifying skin undertones? I have trouble as my pale skin that has a little redness in areas seems to look slightly ashy with some of my foundation choices and I wonder if it's poor undertone choice rather than poor colour choice.

Thank you, Caroline, for your much-needed video. Growing up in Australia and diving on the left side of the road like our Big Cousins, the Brits, I, too, have much of my pigmentation on the right side of my face and also my hand! Your recent videos showed how much your pigmentation and skin texture has improved. You may have mentioned in this video that you were having laser treatment. I have pigmentation and some sun spots from childhood, playing in the sunshine and swimming at the beach with little to no sun protection. My Mum was a sun worshipper, so I often had a heat stroke on more than one occasion. I now plaster on the SPF 50 plus every day, as I do for my son. A quarter of a teaspoon for my face and neck.
I'd like to know what type of laser treatment you had and what other pigment-fading treatments you tried. They really have worked a treat. Is that okay to ask? Could you do a skincare routine video? Many of us would be interested. I now have pale olive skin and use plenty of sun protection. I have so much trouble concealing my sun spots, pigmentation, and blueish purple under the eye area. I have tried some colour correctors but like an orange one, which is too dark and green for the red areas on my face. I can not get the hang of it. This is why this video is so brilliant. You have taught me so much in such a short time. My current foundation is too sheer. To help me. Being over 40 and in the throes of perimenopause, my skin has changed. It is much drier and more sensitive than it once was. So I opted for more sheer, less drying foundations and tried to spot conceal with little success. With your help, I can now have a better chance at success. So thank you x

Erborian CC correctors are great as an all over colour corrector to wear alone or under makeup plus there is a Dull correct that gives a lovely healthier glow, the Red Correct and a variety of other tints. They do mini versions which is helpful as it might be a bit of trial and error to find the colour and product consistency you like best as there are so many options and products. Space NK and other stores carry it so you could try in person too. Personally I love the CC range as it’s very light as I don’t wear foundation finding it too heavy, topping up areas with concealer as needed.

Thank you, thank you, Caroline for this video!! It demystified color correcting for me! I have fair skin with cool undertones. I realize, from watching this video, that I'm likely using too dark, too warm, and too creamy of a corrector for me, as well as using too much. No wonder it doesn't seem to be quite right! LOL 😂 🤣

To be honest, I am usually too lazy to use colour corrector before concealer, so I tend to look for a super coverage concealer for under my eyes. Pat McGrath concealer in shade 4 is perfect for me because it’s got a yellow undertone and neutralises the blue circles 😅. Becca used to do fantastic undereye colour correctors though, which apparently are now being made by Smashbox, so not all bad news 😊. Have a great weekend, Caroline!❤xx

I had a delay in checking this video out and am so excited to have finally watched. Such such helpful tips, thank you! I am constantly curious about my undertones as I seem to have a mix (based on the tests I’ve read online like the color of your veins or if you look better in gold or silver jewelry). This really helps break down the tones of the face bit by bit and understanding the theory of opposite color neutralization is pretty revelatory! Loved this so much. Can’t wait to try! The most I’ve done to date is use Sigma under eye corrector before my concealer which I quite like but I do run into the problem of the combo creasing in my fine lines which I HATE. Talk about looking worse rather than better! Also love matcha too! Thanks for the tip on your sweetener. Sounds lovely and nutritious too. I usually do a blend of half water half steamed almond or oat milk and find the sweetener of the milk does the trick but will sometimes add a drop of natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup. Can I ask why you are not using honey at the moment? Thanks again for the consistent great content, Caroline! Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend so far.

I saw the comment about Becca and Smashbox and wanted to confirm that. I believe that they have three colors in their under-eye corrector, which is slightly sticky and comes in a little pot. I recently helped a friend test out some under eye correctors at Ulta, and this is the first one we went to, and ultimately the one we purchased. We tried several others, and they were all just too dry and noticeably textured for her slightly creepy mature under eyes. She went with the medium color, which really helped correct her blue under eye circles. I showed her how to gently tap a tiny amount it with her ring finger and she doesn’t even need to set it with powder or put concealer over it and it doesn’t kris or move.

I don’t have any discolouration under my eyes, which is great, but I’ve been a sunglasses wearer since early teens (migraines), so my under eyes are almost as pale as my inner thigh - quite something for a ginger Scot! My issue is that when I use foundation, if i take it close to the eye my under-eyes look yellow, and if I don’t it stays bright white in contrast with the foundation. I’ve never really been sure of the undertone, but I’ve settled on very light neutral, tending to warm, which if i can find the right one is fine except under the eyes. In the past - i.e. younger days - I just skipped foundation altogether as I have freckles, had less redness and no wrinkles, so as long as I was moisturised it was fine! Now though, having also skipped SPF for so long, I have a lot of redness, cavernous pores and magnificent texture, so I really want the skin tint or foundation. But what do I do about the under eyes?

A lot of colour correctors that are recommended work great BUT if you aren’t the skin tone that they change to i.e from a Green tint-to a brown tint, then they will be too dark for you. So take a look at a Green colour corrector that stays green, rather than changes to a tint, which you can then cover with foundation.

Meant to ask, is it fair to say you should generally use cool toned makeup for warm undertoned skin (and vice versa) to neutralize skin? I always get confused with this because it seems when you Google it, the advice is to use cool for cool and warm for warm, but it seems with the color correction theory, it’s sort of the opposite? Am I missing the obvious point? 😂

Dear Caroline. I looked around on your channel but I can't find anything on two topics. First, massage to use for puffy eyes . If you have one can you point me to it?
The second topic I am interested in is, spider veins. Not so much on the face, but also on the legs. Being 63 years old I have them popping up faster. I tried injection, but more came to the funeral. Can they do it with lasers and not have to wear those stupid support hose for a month? Thanks.

I think the side of your face where pigmentation is matches the side of your face where you hold your phone.

How would you advise using for people with very pale skin with pigmentation, but who like a lighter coverage foundation please? Rx

Can I just ask about the colour wheel pigments....I've very sensitive skin and breakout so easily....I take it the colour wheel pigments are non-comedogenic? I've always been afraid to use any in case they clog pores further etc Thank you 😊
