Since I'm not black I don't want to speak on how some black people felt about Whitney in the 80s. But since I am white I feel reasonably qualified discussing how the vast majority of young white people felt about her in the 80s. Most white kids in the 80s usually had a specific genre that they identified with. New wave kids only listened to new wave, country kids only listened to country, headbangers only listened to heavy metal and hard rock. Whitney was one of the few artists who we all listened to. She made me feel alive as a kid in the 80s, she still does. There's no words to describe what she means to me.

Bottom line if you liked this type of music which she sang with gusto than you absolutely loved Whitney Elizabeth Houston💖
Frankly a lot of people might say that it was the Black community that ruined her! Especially when she first stepped on the music scene. They said she “Wasn’t Black enough & that she was a sell out!”
Her response which is just as iconic as she is was simply put.. “I don’t know how to sing Black or White! I just know how to sing”
But maybe just maybe if she didn’t get so much of that dumb shit from the Black community and get booed at the Soul Train Awards.. She wouldn’t have felt the need to act out the way she did! Or marry the grittiest hood rat she could!!
Maybe she might have ended up with Kevin Costner and she’d still be here?! Happy & still making hit after hit?!
      RIP Whitney Elizabeth Houston💟✝️

Whitney Houston in the 80's was unreal. There was little to no effort behind that voice which made her extremely unique and better than the rest. +metamorphosis743 There are many singers that have a better voice than Michael. Examples are Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Whitney has a far better voice than Michael Jackson. He doesn't have the same quality. Michael is a good singer and a great entertainer (although I prefer Whitney as an entertainer too, but I can understand why people prefer Michael given his spectacular shows). Michael had a longer career than Whitney but at the height of her popularity Whitney was very, very popular. Everybody knows Michael is not the best singer as in the number one ever. Of course he still is a good singer and his songs are very popular. He is a great entertainer and one of the most popular artist of all time.

in my opinion, Whitney & Michael have the best voices of all time. For Whitney, it's obvious why. for Michael, he had a very distinct voice, absolutely

    • @ayyyce
      @ayyyce 9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

+metamorphosis743 he wasn't saying that Michael Jackson WASN'T a good singer... Clearly he had a legendary career. But as far as vocal prowess, Whitney far surpassed him. It was what she was famous for. Where MJ's shows were flashy and grand, with a lot of dance moves (and lip-syncing), Whitney's were more simple and intimate: just her on stage with a mic. They were two very different artist, both talented and icons in their own right.

Now the world thinks Whitney's IWALY is most legendary and difficult vocal performance ever
But THE VOICE has a lot of absolutely impossible and difficult songs to replicate including original version of so emotional especially audio version released as lyric video recently on Whitney's channel, One moment in time (that end Free c#5 note as a sustained chest belt with earth shattering vibrato) and didn't we almost have it all
      Btw
I have been telling people Whitney's SO EMOTIONAL is far more difficult vocally than Mariah's emotions
Whitney's voice is perfect all round in the song she's insane powerful mid and upper belts, coloratura/operatic quality agility and unrivaled dynamics and breath control as well as vibrato 🙏

@@Swahili14 I totally agree, i can talk about Whitney’s voice in the 80s all day. Arguable Whitneys voice was unmatched, no one was singing like her. especially, the songs from the Whitney Album, they were pop in nature, but a work of art vocally. She knew that which made it even better. cuz once Whitney’s voice touched it, it became a completely different song. IWALY can be difficult at times but i’ve seen it done beautifully by other artist through the years. But Her other singles are really difficult to sing. they are extremely vocally taxing and you have to at least have 3 octave range and sing comfortably at C#5. the only person who could do that was Michael Jackson, and that was when he was 11 😂. once he became a teen his vocal range became less and less. but yeah lol i love whitney

The early Whitney was the best.
No one could touch her in vocal power range and notes, as well as beauty. She had it all. Clive Davis knew the players to put it all in one package.
When I saw her for the first album tour I had one word...
    " Wow ".
I saw her again during the Bobby Brown days, but the snap and pop was gone. She was great anyway.

The statement should’ve been not that drugs took over her life but that regardless of her talent fame success and beauty she still had a hole in her heart and used drugs to fill it. It’s never about the why always about the action. People don’t become addicted for no reason..

Let us be clear here on a couple of things.
Both Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston are in my opinion, the 2 greatest performers the music industry has ever known, as they both were charismatic, electrifying and possessed a unique kind of mystique. If anything, Michael was probably a better dancer than Whitney. But even that is debatable, as Whitney over the years, developed her own unique dance moves and style. In addition, we have to remember that Michael's dancing was highly regimented, while Whitney's was more spontaneous. However, there is one indisputable fact which is that Whitney is the most talented, gifted and greatest singer that ever lived!! Why do I say that? Simple. No one can match( equal) her raw power, tremendous range and unbelievable control, all of which speak only to her vocal prowess.
When we add to her God given vocals, other outstanding qualities she possessed such as grace, elegance, stunning natural beauty and the emotional( as distinct from physical) energy she packs into her songs, we really are talking about the entire package and perfection!!
The fact that she has no equal when it comes to singing has been confirmed and substantiated not only by her fans, but equally by her peers, aspiring singers, music industry veterans and most significantly, the world's top music producers. Here is how some of the world's best producers have described her talent:)]
L.A. Reid: Whitney was the gold standard.
" Baby Face" : The greatest singer of all time.
Michael Narada Walden: Says her has never experienced in any other singer, the raw power, tremendous range and self a confidence he observed in Whitney. He also said that when one combines Whitney's elegance, stunning beauty, control and her ability to transition effortlessly between chest and delicate head voice, with her tremendous range and raw power, results in a package in a singer that is very rare!! Hers was a rare and unparalled talent, and it is no surprise that she is known as "the voice!". She is indeed the greatest singer that ever lived, on the basis of objective criteria!

not only that...I was a teen during her time and I remember hearing her songs at that time as if it were yesterday, and I liked them. Today I can't get enough. We are/were lucky to hear her at her peak and be able to live in the times she existed and became the worlds top female singer of all time. We are so lucky to be alive when she came to prominence. Lucky. Lucky. Lucky. I know she'll be in Heaven.

Performances like these are what set this diva apart from all other aspirants to the prestigious title of the voice and the gold standard. Her belts, vibrato and seamless transitions between head and chest voices are incredible. In addition, as a live performer, few can test her appeal, charisma and intense electricity!
This live performance is just one example of why this queen of the divas was, is and will always remain untouchable! I always loved quality music, but the vocal prowess, stunning beauty, magnetic appeal and unparalleled emotive ability, among other rare attributes have converted me to an addict to her amazing musical brand known as the " gold standard!"
I also have to indicate how well this performance highlighted her unique lyrical phrasing for which she was well known.
Love you Whitney and always will !! R.I.P

Talk about giving one' s all in a live performance- - it is always everything( all of her) , 120%. What more can one ask for. This legend truly loved not only what she did better than anyone else in her profession ( sing), but no one, even her worst enemy), can deny that she loved and valued her fans immensely! It showed and is there for all to see.

Great imaginative lyrics, music and beautiful harmonic mixing. Nothing artificial and she was stunningly beautiful without having to use her sex appeal to be so. If only music was still like this. So naturally talented and gifted. So sad what happened to her. Same for the likes of MJ too. And in the acting world Heath Ledger and Robin Williams. The most talented often seem to be the most troubled it's so sad. She was nothing short of iconic and a musical genius. Her amazing talent and music will never be forgotten.
