this question might sound cliche, but i really do mean it...... was it better in real life ? i mean, sometimes, it depends on where you are sitting and the balance of the speakers in different parts of the room. How was it for you ? Because when you are there in person, you don't get the close ups to see her pursing her lips for detail of each note. Or was it somehow much more spectacular in real life? i have never had the opportunity to witness this glorious lady perform life and will never have the change. Can you describe ?
In my opinion, this is the best live performance at the Grammy's that we'll ever see. She just blew everyone away. We lost her far to early in life. Just an incredible voice and heck that's an understatement.
Agreed. I'm convinced this 1986 London performance I have of hers on my channel (the only upload I have, so it will be easy to locate) is likely her greatest live vocal and THE greatest live vocal performance ever captured on audio. In this 13 min rendition of 'I AM CHANGING' (originally sung by Jennifer Holliday) she unleashes the full weight of her powers like a 300 foot tall, 3-headed 🔥 breathing dragon🐉🐲 incinerating everything and everyone in it's path. She takes her time in the first few minutes just to lure you in- then she takes off like a scud missile launch. It is truly breathtaking, wonderfully exhausting and I cannot imagine a universe in which this performance can be matched by any other vocalist. Just be sure to wear headphones and let NOTHING distract you for 13 mins. It's an experience that demands your full attention. The lyrics are in the description. I'd love to know your reaction. Feel free to comment either here or on the video itself on my channel Cheers 🤗
Just after she finishes & the camera finally pans close up to the audience... I see Bette Midler standing & clapping & fist pumping... she knew!! She heard!!!

Just in case you haven't heard this before, I want to share with you what I consider to be not only Whitney's greatest live performance but quite possibly the greatest live vocal ever captured on audio - an epic and wonderfully exhausting 10 minute 1986 concert performance. Only Whitney's biggest fans know about it. It is truly remarkable, earth shattering and seemingly impossible how a 23 yr old young lady (who weighed about 115 pounds) possessed that kind of lung power. It's her cover of the Dreamgirls song 'I am changing' originally sung by Jennifer Holiday but Whitney the vocal predator lured the song into her white van (with no windows) kidnapped it, butchered it and buried it! You MUST set aside ten minutes of undivided in a quiet space, put yout best headphones in (or Blu-tooth speaker at high volume) and Brace yourself. I can't wait to hear your reaction. th-cam.com/video/FvWdnimqgeA/w-d-xo.html
@Angel Johnson Her National Anthem was FANTASTIC and everyone considers it the standard however this one moment in time performance is on a whole different level and flawless vocally.
Best vocalist of all time. No one else is even in her league. She also sang the best rendition of our national anthem of all time. Today’s singers should take lessons from her.
you can't say that: of all time. Then you surpass Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Maria Callas, etc. Every time has his or her great vocalists. And in her time time it was Whitney.
@@normadesmond6017 None that you named looked like Whitney. Whitney was built for stardom and singing. Vocals, face, body, grace, charm, articulate, overall mass appeal. Thanks for coming.

@@melisentiapheiffer3034 Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston both warbled and went for the vocal gymnastics which technically might have been impressive but the expression and emotion would often get lost during certain phrases which to me is a far more important quality then merely what notes a singer can hit this is where singers like; Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox, Karen Carpenter, Sinead O Connor, Barbara Streisand etc...were in my humble opinion superior to Whitney or Mariah and now we're seeing the emergence of the incredibly talented English singer Lucy Thomas who at just 20 years of age already has 5 critically acclaimed album's on her CV and is about to debut in a WestEnd musical entitled Rosie as the leading lady.
I'll just remind you how rare it was back then to have a standing ovation at the Grammy Awards. I'll also add this was 4 years into her career. Name another vocalist with this achievement. This is, without any doubt, the greatest vocal performance at the Grammy Awards. Whitney is the blue-print. Whitney is the greatest vocalist of any generation.
I believe at this time Whitney receieved about three up until 1989. First three being 1986 Granmys (Saving All My Love For You, 1987 (Greatest Love of All), and 1988 (I Wanna Dance With Somebody).
The best ever period. There is not a single singer alive today who can do that... Celine is good, Adele is great, Mariah at her best was good but there is only one Whitney. It happens to me too. I can't believe what an exquisite performance this is. Arrangement, direction, performance - all stars aligned. The very best - - simply awe inspiring....
Whitney Houston’s live performance of “One Moment In Time” at the 1989 Grammy Awards is nothing short of legendary. This powerful ballad, written for the 1988 Summer Olympics, is a testament to personal triumph and striving for greatness, and Houston’s performance on that night perfectly captured the spirit of the song, leaving an indelible mark on both the audience and her career. Dressed in a shimmering gown, Houston commanded the stage with a grace and confidence that matched the song’s theme of perseverance and seizing a singular moment of glory. Her vocal delivery was impeccable from start to finish. She opened with a controlled, almost understated tone, allowing the song’s message to gradually unfold. But as the song builds in intensity, so too did her voice, delivering a powerful crescendo that left the audience in awe. What sets this performance apart is not just her technical brilliance-though Houston hits every note with pitch-perfect precision-but the sheer emotion she pours into the song. When she sings the line, “I’m only one, but not alone,” you can feel her personal connection to the message of resilience and inner strength. The way she belts out the climactic chorus, “Give me one moment in time, when I’m more than I thought I could be,” is a moment of pure vocal mastery and emotional release that resonates deeply with anyone who's ever chased a dream. The live orchestration, combined with Houston’s unmatched stage presence, gave the performance a grand, almost cinematic quality. Her ability to effortlessly transition from soft, tender moments to powerful, soaring notes showcased why she was regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. This Grammy performance of “One Moment In Time” remains one of Whitney Houston’s most iconic moments. It not only highlighted her incredible vocal range but also her ability to inspire through music. The song itself, with its uplifting message of achieving greatness in life’s defining moments, was brought to life in a way that only Whitney Houston could. This performance continues to be celebrated as a shining example of her extraordinary talent and her place in music history as an unforgettable artist.
One of Whitney's finest vocal performances ever recorded. And like an Olympic athlete it showed us what Whitney, at the pinnacle of her game, was capable of doing. She was simply an amazing vocalist and will be greatly.missed....
Whitney Houston is the gold standard of female singers around the world. Even today, her influence remains even if she's long gone and what a gift she's given the music world.❤️

this question might sound cliche, but i really do mean it...... was it better in real life ? i mean, sometimes, it depends on where you are sitting and the balance of the speakers in different parts of the room. How was it for you ? Because when you are there in person, you don't get the close ups to see her pursing her lips for detail of each note. Or was it somehow much more spectacular in real life? i have never had the opportunity to witness this glorious lady perform life and will never have the change. Can you describe ?
You were so lucky to be there as the witness of a female great singer who ever walk in this planet ❤❤❤

Feel free to comment either here or on the video itself on my channel
Cheers 🤗

Not a single note was off. Legend.
Because she wrote all the notes on this planet. 💯 Pure talent.
When she lowers that mic so her voice won’t over power. That’s is powerful singing.
In the powerfull voice, Beautiful hit.

I thought it is the proof that she is not lip or lipsyncing
When she lowers the mic, you heard her soul and heart singing....still in love of Whitney...
Just after she finishes & the camera finally pans close up to the audience... I see Bette Midler standing & clapping & fist pumping... she knew!! She heard!!!
No auto-tune, no earpiece, just a mic. That's all Whitney needed to showcase her voice in the purest form. This song is very hard to sing and stay in-tune and she effortlessly managed to do it. RIP Queen!

I truly believe this could be the best live performance of a vocalist ever.

Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston both warbled and went for the vocal gymnastics which technically might have been impressive but the expression and emotion would often get lost during certain phrases which to me is a far more important quality then merely what notes a singer can hit this is where singers like; Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox, Karen Carpenter, Sinead O Connor, Barbara Streisand etc...were in my humble opinion superior to Whitney or Mariah and now we're seeing the emergence of the incredibly talented English singer Lucy Thomas who at just 20 years of age already has 5 critically acclaimed album's on her CV and is about to debut in a WestEnd musical entitled Rosie as the leading lady.
I'll just remind you how rare it was back then to have a standing ovation at the Grammy Awards. I'll also add this was 4 years into her career. Name another vocalist with this achievement.

Everyone knew how unbelievably talented she was from day one but THIS, this is the exact moment this 26 year old girl solidified her status as a legend.
I've always felt that this performance embodies the very very best of Whitney. Flawless and illustrates all the best at her peak.
Astounding, breathtaking perfection of a performance. Unmatched to this day! 🙏🏻💜
She had solidified her voice as a legend looooooong before this song or performance. Whitney Houston was the 1st solo artist IN HISTORY to have a #1 debut album. And also before this performance she was the first and Still ONLY Act to have 7 straight #1 records.
Speak the life of truth into it Jonathan!
