      Hey Jay, I just put an AEM wideband on my Procharged Mustang today. How do I get a Lamda reading you spoke about? I gotta say, Real Street is local to me in Lake Mary and they are the only ones that took the time to give me some guidance and referrals about tuning my car. My ProCharger came with Diablosport tuner and even Diablosport (who is owned by Superchips - also local in Sanford) was absolutely NO help and didn't give a crap to help me find a tuner who could dial in my car. I'm going to do some WOT runs tomorrow and adjust the fuel trims using the DIablo and the AEM

      You will unscrew the trim bezel around the face of the gauge and change the supplied faceplate.
      Keep in mind that changing the global fuel trim on your handheld device won't always yield linear change across the whole load/RPM range. Also watch the long fuel trims as they will take time to normalize. Thanks and good luck with your car.

    Thanks for clearing that up! If you plan on running e85 and you buy the AEM wideband gauge, they give you different gauge faces for gas/lambda. They try to explain the theory of operation for different fuels, but it leaves you with more questions. They don't explain that you'll see gasoline AFR if you are running e85 or why that is. These are the explanations that are missing as we're learning to build/understand hot rods. GREAT CHANNEL!!!

    here in Brazil we use ethanol in 100% of our projects, so we only use lambda instead of afr...many years ago when we started to have access to 02 sensors, we didn't know how to use them correctly due to lack of information.

    omg love this now i understand my gauge but just have a question when im on idl car not moving fully warm my gauge reads 19.x some times would go to like 20.x it would just jump in between is rhis cuz of the factory setting the gauge comes with

    How is the sensor mounted in the exhausted? I installed it in the top of my exhaust because my old lambda sensor was in that same place. Just replaced it with a wideband sensor

    What happens/changes if add Boostane premium or Professional (octane boosters) to 93 octane pump gas, but you originally tuned with just 93 octane pump gas?

    Sir I have a question. Instead of making the switch to Lamda couldn't we just use the chart and adjust the Air/Fuel according to the applicable fuel we are using?

    i have a jzx100 tourer v thats been running extremely rich, under high load i can smell the fumes from my exhaust and theres black smoke. Also my water temp gauge warning light is always on from the moment i start the engine. could it be a faulty water temp sensor thats forcing the engine to remain rich?

    So I'm a little flustered on which direction to go since i haven't really made my mind up on e85 or pump gas. In realistic terms and regardless of whats easier, I'm assuming it would be best to consult my tuner on this? Also, if he says "i don't read lambda" then I'm basically stuck with pump gas since I don't wanna mess with "the gauge reads 14.7 so thats 9.7 in e85 stoich" and so on. Correct? Thanks for any feedback, have really enjoyed learning so much on your channel when its simplified!

    I’m having a a/f reading 16-18 when highway driving I’ve changed filter plugs and injectors are new as well as pump my car is tuned on 93 oct. could my sensor be going bad?

    Straight on point, Hi there, i'm gonna try my question here, hope no answer though, but here i go :
    I recently put a new 0² sensor on my car, before doing that i was feeling my acceleration had some kind of stair like gradually getting in it while full throttle. my average mpg wasn't good but all in all wasn't that bad, considering the overall rating of this car. But now with the new sensor, my acceleration is shabby like restrained for some reasons, feel continuous though with no step or bump into it. But my mpg go down like 10 to 15% down : ±405 miles before and ±360 miles after. Is there any kind of run-in cycle or brakes in, that i missed, or something ? my local tech doesn't have any clue, and want to make a full diagnostic on my car.
    any thoughts about what's going on ?

    On a NA engine. Would you recommend going to 0.9 or 0.85 for maximum power? Some say 0.9 some say 0.85. Dont have a dyno so maybe you can help 😁👍🤷‍♂️

    I am using the wideband O2 sensor to tune a single cylinder NA motorcycle engine. The confusion I have is, the intake pressure will vary under loaded and no-load condition, so should I conduct these tests on a running motorcycle i.e. under load. IF yes then what is an ideal reading I am targeting across the rev range? Thanks!

      It varies. 6000rpm under full load might be 12.8 but 6000rpm under light throttle might be 13.8:1.
      This goes for the entire rev range so adopting a one size fits all a/f ratio is futile.
      Sitting there revving it up under no load and trying to work out an average for varying load a/f ratios is as pointless as fitting an ashtray to your motorcycle.

      +Manny Jr If you're running too much boost/timing or nitrous for 91 octane adding octane certainly won't hurt a thing.

    I just installed a lc2 in my evo and its on e85. its was calibrated while on e85. it ranges from 10. to 15 depending on acceleration and decel. is that a correct reading?

      +5280videos CO by default, the LC2 displays AFR on a gasoline scale. So even though you have E85 in the tank, 14.7 on the gauge will be stoich.

    So if my car is flex fuel tuned and i switch between 93 and e85, its almost pointless to get a wideband because it wouldn’t be accurate for e85 and 93?

      It would be perfectly accurate for both. The wideband is in the exhaust and measures lambda irrespective of fuel. It is 1.0 for total combustion. The AFR to get total combustion changes for gasoline vs E85. For E85 the ECU makes the injectors add more fuel. You either tell the ECU or have a fuel sensor that tells the ECU.

    You said it should read lean on deaccelleration, mine is reading 22afr, which as lean as it goes, is that still normal? stock car, just added a wideband.

      Unless your car has a carburetor or REALLY early fuel injection it has what we call "Decel fuel cut off". This is exactly how it sounds. When you're coasting or under decel and the throttle is closed the ECU cuts fuel off completely. The strategy looks like this (RPM over X/with load under X/with throttle under X) the ECU will shut the fuel off. The ECU will also "blend" fuel back in when it's time to make the whole thing pretty seamless. You just never noticed it was happening before. Thanks

    My NGK AFX wideband goes from 9 to 16 on the af ratio. Does that mean if im at 14.7 on that gauge im running lean ?
    I know from the instructions i've read it recommends that 13 is around the stoich since the gauge maxes out at 16 that means 14.7 would be close to a full lean reading on that specific gauge. But maybe it still has no problem at 14.7. However i will say that my supra thats on a ecu masters stand alone does not like idling at 14.7 at all. It prefers the higher 13's for idle.
    So far though that is my main issue is getting idle perfect and trying to sort out the cold idle. It just doesn't wanna idle cold. But after i do get it warmed up it runs for me all day.

      +Review Guy for gasoline, Stoich is stoich. its hard to believe a wideband manufacturer would configure their gasoline wideband for stoich at 13:1
      I did a quick search, here is the AFX Tuning Manual www.ngksparkplugs.com/pdf/afx_tuning_manual_rev_06.pdf ... in there, they say Stoich for gasoline is 14.57:1 but then they go on to say "For most spark ignition engines, there is a specific small window of AFR in which
      maximum horsepower and best throttle response will be found. For gasoline, that range is 12.5 to 13 AFR. " ... here they are referring to naturally aspirated applications. ...
      So they arent saying stoich is 13.0:1 they are saying that your target will be close to 13.0:1 .. .there is a difference between target and stoich. the afr you are shooting for (target) will often be lower than stoich

      Ahh ok, i must have misunderstood the instructions.
      Im not sure why my car doesn't like idling at 14.7 but it doesn't. and i've checked my plugs they are nice and clean looking.
      I have them gapped around .29 though.

      +REALSTREETPERFTV just a 1994 supra na-t when i did the nat conversion i put 800 cc injectors, 320 lph fuel pump, adjustable fpr, the stock cross over intake. fed by a 6266 and 3" ic piping from turbo to the intake. not runnimg maf but speed density map and iat. controlled by ecu masters emu. its my first stand alone so im not a professional tuner

    So would i need to buy a new gauge if its set for gas 14.7:1 & im running E85 which is 9.7:1???

      +Alberto Salcedo no, if you are using a wideband that was calibrated for gasoline to tune on E85, you have a couple options. When the sensor senses stoich, it tells the gauge "hey i am seeing stoich" and then the gauge manufacturer translates that to display 14.7 on the gauge for your eye to read. So 14.7 on your gauge is stoich whether you are using gasoline or E85. So even though stoich for ethanol is 9.7, your gauge thinks sensor stoich is 14.7 so even even when you are at stoich on e85, the gauge will show 14.7 because thats what the manufacturer told the gauge to display when the sensor sees stoich. You can either continue to coinsider 14.7:1 on the gauge as stoich even though you are on ethanol, or you can switch to lambda and forget about AFR numbers.
