It was crazy how Microsoft and Netflix made arrangements for that obscure Netflix software for the Wii on that disc, which I had no clue existed only because there was already a Netflix channel for the Wii.

That sounds sick as hell tbh. I still can’t believe no true Star Wars game came out for the Wii, at least not with the Wii Motion Plus. Sounds like it could’ve been tons of fun.

@@jerryborjon It didn't, but I had a lot of fun with that game, unlike most of the later titles, which ignore any sort of motion controls altogether, as if Wiimote doesn't have a gyroscope at all.

16:13 - Ha, we had coins so much older than just about a decade in circulation before switching to the euro. You would commonly receive coins older than yourself back then. Occasionally, you would even get a 50 Pfennig coin which predated the FRG and thus didn't say "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (FRG) on it but instead "Bank deutscher Länder" (Bank of German states). Those were more than half a century old when we adopted the euro, and getting one of them happened about twice a year, at least to me.
I remember working as a cashier right after high school for a couple of months - that must have been in '97 or so. One day, I received a very weird coin: the federal eagle on its back looked a bit odd. I couldn't exactly pinpoint was wrong with it but I knew it was different from our actual federal eagle. You know, kind of what I imagined a cheap counterfeit would look like. Only when I looked at the year it was minted - IIRC it was 1916 - it occurred to me: that was not a federal but an imperial eagle on the back of that coin! I replaced it with a then-current coin, taped the ancient one to a letter and mailed it to my former history teacher. A couple of months later she wrote me back telling me how she used it as an opener to one of her history classes.
TL;DR:
German Mark/Pfennig coins used to remain in circulation for _very_ long times.
Oh, and just in case it didn't become clear: I live in Germany.
And it also is nothing special to get hands on older Cent coins - at least that's my experience...
But since the Euro isn't that old in general, we still have to wait some years till we see if those coins will also remain as long as the old Mark/Pfennig...

At least you can still get a those older euro coins where Sweden and Finland looks like a dick and balls. That's something!
The round pound coins! They’ve not been in circulation here for about 4 years now so it’s definitely strange to see them again lol.
Same with the 10p and 5p both smaller now.
Yeah seeing those two old pounds were funky, I almost forgot they were like that.

Those British pounds are the old style they replaced them in 2017
British stores wouldn’t accept them although I wonder if vending machines would
@@kreuner11 they set a date where you could no longer use the old style and you would have to go to the bank to get it changed
Think you can take them to the bank and theyll swap them for the newer plastic ones
I'm British and we are slowly Changing all our money over to the new polymer notes as well.
We've changed from the paper £5 note as well as the £10 and £20 note.
They recently released the new polymer £50 note as well.
The banks will always accept the old notes however shops won't.
I'm British, so I would know, I preferred the old £1 coin.

It's not exclusive anymore. Skywalker Sword HD released a few months ago on Nintendo's latest console, the Nintendo Sith.
I love how Michael just finds random stuff at thrift stores or anywhere else and manages to find a use for it

@@pauld4238 you gotta find the right thrift stores. I went to this thrift store in Covington, GA, and there were computers all over the place all in one section. And everything there was a dollar each.
@@redditguy8088 I don't know what you're talking about. They looked like late 90s early 2000s computers, so if what you're referring to came out in the 70s or 80s, they most likely weren't in there.

I had that Daytona USA disk for Sega Saturn, it was indeed a pack in along with Virtua Cop and Virtua Fighter, all in sleeves like that.
The Daytona USA disc is from a special that Sega was running for the Sega Saturn during the Holiday season of 1996 in North America. If you bought a Saturn, you got a free game package that came with Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, and Virtua Cop. I got the Saturn for Christmas in 1996 along with those three free games.
It's interesting to know that Netflix pulled almost the same stunt on Microsoft that Microsoft did to IBM concerning MS-DOS.
What did Microsoft do to IBM
@@toopienator Microsoft worked with IBM to develop a command line OS. IBM eventually released PC-DOS. They were also codeveloping a GUI based operating system, but Microsoft backed out of their agreement to develop and release Windows 3.0. This left IBM hanging out to dry who in turn developed OS/2 and PC-DOS which both failed after a few years with Microsoft's success in marketing and the release of Windows 95. These events are what I believe made IBM leave the personal computer business altogether in the early 2000s and sell what remained to Korean based Lenovo. In a single word, "betrayal".

Those older coins reminded me of my first time encountering and touching old coins from the US and my country. They were HEFTY compared to modern coins and I learned years later that those coins were either 75 or 90% composed of Silver and were made in the around World War I (1910s) and around World War II (1940s).
The US dime and quarter had silver in them until 1965. Back when money literally had value. Lucky to find one now.
@@johnathin0061892 Their silver content probably why they're rare. Even though melting coins and then selling the metal is illegal, it probably still happened.

I found my Netflix Wii disc a few months ago that I totally forgot about. I actually got mine from Netflix directly. Cool find!
Ah yes, I remember the Netflix Wii disc. I never knew about the backstory of how it came into existence; I just knew that we needed the disc if we wanted to stream Netflix content on our TV (the Wii was the only streaming device I had back then). Then they launched the Netflix Wii Channel, and that was the end of that.
But man, seeing that envelope brings me back to the days when Netflix was just a DVD-by-mail company, and were _just_ starting to break into the video-on-demand market.
The packaging gave me a big dose of nostalgia. Reminds me of when my folks used to get those Netflix disks and watch Three’s Company lol
I will never understand Microsoft's approach to having a Netflix subscription, but having an Xbox Live Gold subscription to use that subscription. It's amazing what you can find in garage sales / thrift stores, and it's safe to say you've got some great finds here, especially the currency. I haven't seen that style of £1 coins for a long time as they were updated here a few years ago. Maybe some time in the future, I could donate some of the newer coins and notes as I see you don't have any notes there.

Interesting video Michael. I am one of those persons who travelled Europe in the 1980's for work and I recognized that currency. Brought back alot of great memories. Keep up the great work!

Wow, I remember buying one of those revolutions when they were brand new! (along with the wave keyboard when it came out). Was very expensive! Lasted for years and years before I broke the internal ribbon cable replacing the battery!
I still have it after 12 years last used last year still works but not working as best as before
Im so excited to see a video about this disk! I actually have one of these right now that has been exclusively owned by me since we requested it from Netflix back during this promotion period. I remember telling my friends about the disk and they thought I was lying saying Netflix was always through a Wii channel. The look on their faces when I managed the actually locate the disk and showed it to them, with the disk still in perfect condition (the sleeve is a bit different)
Every time I watch your videos I always watch the clock because the time change is super satisfying.

OH MY GOSH!! I have the same alarm clock in black. This is my bedside alarm clock. My wife loves the sound it makes when the the digits turn. And that nice glow from the neon bulb at night. Cool clock.

I remember these Netflix's disc. Where it started all. I even worked for them during college. good times
The Danish series 1972A note was a revision specifically for the 100 kroner bill printed between 1994 and 1998, so that should give you a pretty specific time period for this. All of the bills and coins (except the smallest 25-øre coin) are still legal tender, although you would be looked at funny if you tried to use the bills anywhere not used to these versions.
As a Belgian, I fondly remember those BFR notes 😅

I remember back in 2009-2011 having a wii Netflix disc. I would choose the movies on the Netflix website when I was home from college and would watch them while I was at college.
You can also still download games you own on the Wii shop even though it was taken down

i had this disk , oh there also used to be a virtual assistant to help you pick out movies , he would ask you questions then take you to a selection of movies based on your response .
I had one of those old MX mouses, I only stopped using it around 2019 when the battery gave out completely. Was the best mouse I owned, even though the DPI was a bit crappy

I had an MX Revolution. The buttons on it did not last. I loved the weighted scroll wheel that spun freely when flicked hard enough though.
2:00 internet connection is still required for it to work and you have to have the disk inserted,however on the black Wii and Wii mini won’t read the disk,but if did this on a GameCube compatibility Wii,just use your sd card,this also works on the Wii U

I remember this. No idea if my dad kept it but I remember us using it all the time until the channel came out
This was the first way I watched Netflix circa 2009-2010. It was rather bare-bones, with no search function. You had to add things on your queue for them to show up on Wii and was of course limited to 420p. The Netflix channel on Wii offered a more full-featured experience when it launched.
4:50 you can also redownload titles you have previously still
In Brazil, they made a Netflix disc for the PS2! You'd need the Ethernet cable, but it worked

hey! a bit of info about the danish currency, we stopped using 25 øre coins in 2008! it's really weird to see them, i was seven when they were taken out of circulation so all memories of them are super vague but man, they're just tiny
the other coins look exactly the same as they do today and are still being used, but the notes are an old design! current ones look very different and all have historical designs or iconic buildings and such, but i kinda dig how these look
I've actually still have one of those Netflix for Wii disc. You basically just selected what consoles you had and they would mail u the disc for the specific console in 2 days or the next day (same Netflix DVD shipping). I don't remember if it still worked a few days after the Wii shop channel app launched, I think we canceled netflix for a bit and then signed up for it again when it was already in the shop channel.

I wasn't around to remember the Netflix Wii disc, but it must've been weird to insert a disc to access an online streaming service lol. Reminds me of that PS4 error where it thought TH-cam needed a disc
This was during very early streaming, so it didn't really seem that odd that the time lol. I remember thinking that it was just the normal way that you would have to use streaming on the wii. There wasn't really anything interesting on Netflix streaming back then though, so i only realy used it a few times
The nostalgia of going to the big red Netflix machine at my local Publix and renting a movie or a game for the wii... the good old days
Holy crap. I haven't seen those old pound coins in ages. It's like finding a shilling or to go even further back, a farthing.
Loved the MX mouse and the infinite scroll feature. Eventually replaced it with the MX Air.
Note those £1 coins won't work in the UK unless you go to the Royal Mint and get them swapped for new ones, as they've been replaced with ones that are harder to counterfeit.

Hotel d’Angleterre is one of the most recognized hotels in Denmark and while the bills are old, the coins look the same as today's coins, the smaller 25 øre (smallest copper coin) is discontinued in 2008.
I still have my netflix disc but it was for ps3 i never knew wii had one too so thats awesome to hear good find
