One question still - what does it mean when a Kaiju "receives one damage" when it is thrown and hits another kaiju (both receive one damage)? Do you deduct this from their energy? I have a question, I don’t know if it was in the video due to me watching it over and not being able to find it, how do you activate your ability in game?
You'll find that covered here: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=770 (you can use it whenever its effect would apply) - hope that helps!
If you throw a vehicle at a kaiju: 1. Does the target Kaiju defend the 1 damage (if they have the card)? 2. Does the target Kaiju have to give the attacker a trophy card? Do enhancements last the whole game? Can you discard to move 1 space with momentum until you run out of cards?
1) You can defend anytime you would take damage. th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html 2) If they take damage, they resolve damage as described in the video, gaining a trophy if they draw a valid card they can take. 3) Regarding enhancements: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html 4) Not really sure what you're asking here.
This seems awesome I looked up coz I just got an amazon ad for it and it seemed cheap so wanted to see what the minis were like, but the game seems fun and engaging, the tie rules though I think I'll skip and just call it a tie or play a second round haha
Thanks a lot for the explanation. The game manual was not good at all. Still, I have a couple of questions, I would like to Know If you can help me: Question 1: May I use any number of cards with momentum and then use a normal card? Question 2: When a card says "If the attack is not fully blocked you get", that only resolves if the opponent does not play a shield card; or if the opponent plays a shield card with lesser capacity of my attack, or both. Thank in advance.
If you successfully attack a player and deal 2 hit points, and you also have a card that tells you to take an extra trophy, you still only draw two from the target’s deck and both would be your trophies, correct?? Because I’m under the impression that you would always draw the same amount of cards as damage inflicted on the target, even if it means not getting an EXTRA trophy if you only landed one hit point.
Just checked with the publisher and here's the answer: The extra trophy must come from the cards you’ve already drawn. So in a case where yo just did 1 damage, you wouldn't get any extra. Hope that helps!
Hi! Awesome explanation! I do have a question, though. How does Mothra’s ability resolve after drawing the new hand on the refresh phase? Does Mothra gain the building’s benefits immediately or do they have to wait until it gets destroyed by another Kaiju. Also, Tanks and Battleships don’t affect Mothra ever??
I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I tend to avoid individual card effects/characters as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Thank you for this! In my ignorance, I’m not really sure why we would choose to pass. As a result, I’m not really sure how attack turns naturally end. Can anyone help explain? Thanks.
You might choose to pass because you don't have a card you want to play. Something like this is more likely to reveal itself when you're playing. It will make sense in the moment why you would want to pass once you are looking at your options and making a decision about what you want to do for your turn.
Can you use more than 1 defensive card per attack? Like the example you used say the attack was 4 and I had one 3 defense card and a 2 defense card in my hand.
Does the discard action with Momentum mean you can use it the same way as a card that has momentum? Such as discarding a card, to use “move with MOMENTUM” then discard or play another card?
I'm not entirely sure I understand the question - sorry. If it's been a little while since I shot or played the game, it can make it a bit more challenging to get the context of a question without more details.
You read my mind. I've been trying to get an answer for this as well. Maybe I can clarify, and maybe we can get an answer. If you play a card that says momentum, you can either play another card or use the discard action. If the discard action has the word momentum, can you use the discard action AGAIN or do you have to play a card?
@@akharmon92 after looking at other playthroughs and mulling it over after playing the game several times and each time figuring out more rules from google, i did find a more elaborate explanation on “board game geeks” forum. But I think with how the game is set up, it would make sense that the Momentum when written on cards, applies only to playing another card, but once the “discard a card” action is used, “with momentum”, it makes sense that you have to discard cards to keep using that specific action, but you can’t play other cards.
One question I have is if a player can defend themselves from being thrown by another player? I know that the attack value determines how far they can be thrown but can i use a defense card to possibly negate the throw or reduce the distance? And does that one damage a thrown monster takes from hitting another kaiju mean that the thrower draws two trophy cards?
You can't use a defense to reduce the distance, but it can negate damage. You can find additional answers in the FAQ here as well: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2451671/godzilla-tokyo-clash-rules-faq-creation-thread-add
Av very understandable question! No a throw is not considered a ranged attack. You'll find some answers like this in their FAQ: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2451671/godzilla-tokyo-clash-rules-faq-creation-thread-add
Would using a defense card during a throw attack "reduce" the attack value, and hence the distance the Kaiju can be thrown? Or does it negate the damage from the throw?
Not sure anyone knows and I can't find the info in the rulebook, but here goes; Vehicles like tanks and UFOs say they move toward the nearest kaiju with the King of Monsters breaking ties. But what happens if a vehicle is already in the space of a monster? Does it still move? Ex: A tank and Megalon are in the same space at the end of the turn. Godzilla is 2 space away and is the only other kaiju on the board. Does the tank move toward Godzilla or stay where it is?
Question: a direct attack (assuming no defensive card was played) will only result in you selecting a specific number of cards from your opponents deck? or does it also cause your opponents Kaiju to lose energy points. For example if the direct attack was 3, apart from selecting the 3 cards at the top of my opponents deck and choosing 1, does my opponents kaiju also lose 3 energy points?
@@WatchItPlayed also, can you only take an action one time during the action phase (assuming you have no momentum cards)? For example what if i did an action, then player two passes, and player three does an action. The round is not over because the three players didnt pass in a row, so would I (player 1) be able to go again with another action?
Hello Rodney, thank you so much for this video. I have a question in regards to the enhancement card. A player (without the king of monsters token) has 5 cards on hand. When the enhancement card is being played, is the enhancement card still considered on hand (because it is still being played and not discarded)? My confusion here is during the end of each round when the player gets to draw the 5 cards again. For example, a player stacked the enchancement cards and have two enhancement cards on play. During the end of the round to draw the cards again, does the player draw up to 3 cards only (because of the two enhancement cards that are still in play)? Or does the player draw the usual 5 cards (with the two enhancement cards still in play) and therefore techincally has 7 cards? Thanks.
When something is thrown at them (like a car), or when a kaiju is thrown through or into them. You'll find examples of that shown here: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html and here: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
Hi Rodney! Are you allowed to break up move and attack actions? So if I had a card that had 2 move and 2 attack could I move one space, attack, then move again? Thanks!

Thanks for the great video, Rodney! Just got this yesterday and am excited to play. I noticed though that the rules do not include a components list and my game came with 4 red energy cubes (for Kaiju player boards) and 1 yellow cube. I don't see anything in the rules as to what this cube is used for. Any idea?
Hey I have two questions can you stack defense cards meaning can you play more then 1 if you have the energy for the? And second for the Power Up card of Godzilla which is an Enhancement that says "When you make a ranged attack, discard this card to increase the damge by one and gain 1 extra trophy." Lets say you get attack with a power of 4 and the card is used and you defend with a card of 2 "defense" so now you're being attacked with a power of 5 because of the enhancement, so would player get 3 trophy cards or 4? To my understanding it would be 3 trophy cards because the sentence says "increase the damge by one and gain 1 extra trophy" but we had this problem while playing the other player said that she was supposed to get 4 cards because "1 more damge and an extra trophy" so does that card mean 1 damge plus 1 extra trophy or is the card talking about 1 damage and its 1 trophy for the damge?
1) Nope! 2) I do by best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
Reshuffle a deck anytime it’s empty and you would have to draw. So if there are not enough cards in the damaged Kaiju's deck, you shuffle their discard pile so that you can continue drawing cards for damage.
@@Youngviet So taking damage is really when you lose an attack (not successfully block by defending) resulting in the attacker gets to draw cards from your deck and adds the one with higher dominance to the trophy pile. It's not a tally or running point system like other games.
So to clarify you don't lose energy if you take damage or anything else other than taking cards? My wife and I played you lose energy based on the amount of taken damage AND then they take the cards off your draw pile. The rules never explicitly outline the penalty for taking damage other than the draw pile cards but they talk about it like it has another value.
Rodney, I could really use a video of you actually playing this game, for me the instructions in the manual are super confusing, and even with your good work on explaining them in this video, I really feel like I could use some aid with seeing how the gameplay actually progresses. Could you and your team come up with this please?
Question: With the enhancements do you initially pay with energy and it stays on your field throughout the whole game and never have to pay energy again?
Does this part answer your question? th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html Once you pay for it, and it's on the table, you don't have to keep paying for it each turn.
Do you by chance know how the Lightning Generators work? It says if you throw/move/place a kaiju in that space, deal 1 damage, however when you get dealt a damage via moving yourself, what does that do? No one takes a trophy for that I assume, so color me confused. Also, what causes you to place a kaiju?
Good question! I avoid getting into individual card effects in my videos, as that's a level of detail that would be too hard for me to manage across all the games I cover. You might find an answer over at BoardGameGeek in the forums for the game though!
You could probably gain a net of 1 energy. They say "place a Kaiju" because some cards allow you to move other Kaiju. Mothra is especially capable of doing this
Sorry for the second comment but didn’t anyone else have not enough point cards for the buildings ? I have an extra radar point card but only have three radar and the little bunker buildings I’m sort a card

@@WatchItPlayed thank you so much!
If you throw a vehicle at a kaiju:
1. Does the target Kaiju defend the 1 damage (if they have the card)?
2. Does the target Kaiju have to give the attacker a trophy card?
Do enhancements last the whole game?
Can you discard to move 1 space with momentum until you run out of cards?
1) You can defend anytime you would take damage. th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html
2) If they take damage, they resolve damage as described in the video, gaining a trophy if they draw a valid card they can take.
3) Regarding enhancements: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html
4) Not really sure what you're asking here.
Once you get the hang of it and how to play. It's a fun game! I hope they make extensions
Glad you're been enjoying it!
This seems awesome I looked up coz I just got an amazon ad for it and it seemed cheap so wanted to see what the minis were like, but the game seems fun and engaging, the tie rules though I think I'll skip and just call it a tie or play a second round haha
Have a fun time playing, ties or otherwise :)
Thanks a lot for the explanation. The game manual was not good at all.
Still, I have a couple of questions, I would like to Know If you can help me:
Question 1: May I use any number of cards with momentum and then use a normal card?
Question 2: When a card says "If the attack is not fully blocked you get", that only resolves if the opponent does not play a shield card; or if the opponent plays a shield card with lesser capacity of my attack, or both.
Thank in advance.
1) Yes
2) Fully blocked would mean all of the damage is blocked.
Hope that helps!
Would you be able to state what the card sizes are? I'd like to try to find sleeves that would fit these, or as close as I can.
The same as Magic The Gathering type cards.
@@WatchItPlayed yeah those sleeves have worked well for mine.
I love godzilla hoping they expand the game add new monsters from the series
Certainly lots of great kaiju to pick from!
@@WatchItPlayed Appreciate the quick reply! We chose to wing it and you’re right, it kinda made sense on when to pass. Cheers!
Can you use more than 1 defensive card per attack? Like the example you used say the attack was 4 and I had one 3 defense card and a 2 defense card in my hand.
Just one!
@@WatchItPlayed Thank you again!
Can you play multiple defensive cards in to stop one attack?
Nope, just one.
@@WatchItPlayed thank you very much for the answer and the link to the FAQ
@@Grievousish You're very welcome!
Question how many defense cards can you play to defend an attack?
One card.
Kinda reminds me of the Godzilla game on NES with the setup
How many times did you have to flip the box to land perfectly right side up in the beginning?
First time, every time, of course ;)
Sorry to even ask this, Is throwing a vehicle at another player considered a ranged attacked if it's thrown across a few spaces?
Av very understandable question! No a throw is not considered a ranged attack. You'll find some answers like this in their FAQ: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2451671/godzilla-tokyo-clash-rules-faq-creation-thread-add
Would using a defense card during a throw attack "reduce" the attack value, and hence the distance the Kaiju can be thrown? Or does it negate the damage from the throw?
It just negates damage.
If it's already in the space with a monsyer, it won't move.
Looks awesome. If you discard to get momentum can you right after play cards from your hand?
Sure can!
Or are energy points ONLY ever lost when you use them to pay to activate a card?
It just causes the loss of a card.
@@WatchItPlayed also, can you only take an action one time during the action phase (assuming you have no momentum cards)?
For example what if i did an action, then player two passes, and player three does an action. The round is not over because the three players didnt pass in a row, so would I (player 1) be able to go again with another action?
@@jerrygutierrez99 Hey Jerry, you'll find that covered here: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html
Thanks.
Enhancements do not count against your hand limit (they are no longer considered to be in your hand). Hope that helps.
I still dont get this game how are small buildings destroyed? Is it when I stop on a tile with them?
When something is thrown at them (like a car), or when a kaiju is thrown through or into them. You'll find examples of that shown here: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html and here: th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
Very well done video!

Hi Rodney! Are you allowed to break up move and attack actions? So if I had a card that had 2 move and 2 attack could I move one space, attack, then move again? Thanks!
Hey there - sorry for the delay (was looking for an official answer for you!). You may not break up the move action on a card into multiple smaller moves.
@@WatchItPlayed Rodney you are the man! Thanks for checking on that one!

If I throw a Kaiju and it hits a large building, do I get to destroy up to one small building or vehicle in that space as well? Or just the large building?
Just the large building.
During the attack phase. Do you draw cards after you use them?
or do you wait until the next phase to get more cards?

Thanks for the great video, Rodney! Just got this yesterday and am excited to play. I noticed though that the rules do not include a components list and my game came with 4 red energy cubes (for Kaiju player boards) and 1 yellow cube. I don't see anything in the rules as to what this cube is used for. Any idea?
Hey Matt, it's for one of the kaiju abilities.
@@WatchItPlayed oh I see now, thanks!

I cant wait to play. fyi. I picked up a copy on amazon for 17 bucks.
Have a great time!
1) Nope!

This game looks complex. i like it
Thanks for checking it out!
When my library is gone, should I reshuffle the discard place?
Reshuffle a deck anytime it’s empty and you would have to draw. So if there are not enough cards in the damaged Kaiju's deck, you shuffle their discard pile so that you can continue drawing cards for damage.
How many times on average do you have to do the box flip so it lands right side up? :D
Are you suggesting I don't get it on the first attempt?! ;)
Watch It Played of course not, Rodney :-D
Can you teach me how you do it? ;-)
Rodney bought this because of how great this video was. I can't find it any where, but what card sleeve size will work for this game?
I believe standard Magic sized, but I loaned my copy of the game out, so I can't check for you
@@WatchItPlayed OK thanks
@@WatchItPlayed Oh and how dare you share LOL
What is the yellow energy cube for?
One of the Kaiju uses it. It will inform you when you pick it.
About to play this with my two boys (8 and 11), and maybe I (most probably) missed something... but how do you record damage?
its starts on the 10:00
@@Youngviet So taking damage is really when you lose an attack (not successfully block by defending) resulting in the attacker gets to draw cards from your deck and adds the one with higher dominance to the trophy pile. It's not a tally or running point system like other games.
Exactly.
This helped a lot thanks
You're very welcome!
Rodney, I could really use a video of you actually playing this game, for me the instructions in the manual are super confusing, and even with your good work on explaining them in this video, I really feel like I could use some aid with seeing how the gameplay actually progresses. Could you and your team come up with this please?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: th-cam.com/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/w-d-xo.html&t=342
Question: With the enhancements do you initially pay with energy and it stays on your field throughout the whole game and never have to pay energy again?
Does this part answer your question? th-cam.com/video/0Y3uASz_T2A/w-d-xo.html
Once you pay for it, and it's on the table, you don't have to keep paying for it each turn.
@@WatchItPlayed That's fair, I just figured I'd see if you knew the answer. Ya miss all the shots you don't take lol
You could probably gain a net of 1 energy. They say "place a Kaiju" because some cards allow you to move other Kaiju. Mothra is especially capable of doing this
Do you lower your energy if you take damage?
I shot this long enough ago that I don't recall what the video says, but I am confident it does say what happens if you take damage.
Sorry for the second comment but didn’t anyone else have not enough point cards for the buildings ? I have an extra radar point card but only have three radar and the little bunker buildings I’m sort a card
Not sure about that.
This is the first strategy board game I've ever played and I really loved it! Which other would you recommend me?
So glad you enjoyed it! I tend to avoid giving personalized recommendations. What I like, someone else might not - but hopefully you see a few games on here that might be what you are looking for!
Try Pandemic if you want to give a co-op game a try.
GKR Heavy Hitters is a good game too but more on the pricey side. Tokyo Clash was perfect for when I was craving GKR gameplay ever since my friend (who owns a copy) moved to another state.
Can I block when another Kaiju is thrown at me? or is it just one damage point?
A player can defend against any instance of damage, including from a thrown object, except when specified as unblockable.
Need Expansion with Rodan, Mecha-Godzilla, Anguirus and then either King Kong, Jet Jaguar, or Gigan. That's what I most expect anyway before Destroyah, Space Godzilla, Biollante, a Battera, Ghidora variant, or King Caesar.
Lots of options for expansions, to be sure!
I hope they add new monsters the game is really fun.
