Hey thanks for watching the video!
That was really smart putting the straw in the puddles to dry them up!! Thank you for taking us along your journey. We know it takes so much longer to do a job when you have to video it all!!! We really appreciate it!! My husband and I absolutely love being able to see all you do! May God overwhelm you, your staff and family with blessings!
Thank you for watching and the nice comment! The application goes both ways!
@@saskdutchkid Jan, I have a question for you, would you be willing to try a different pair of boots besides Dunlop thermo's like the ones you are always wearing on your videos. Please and thank you. Maybe try baffin or dakota helly hansen boots, please reply back about what you think? Thanks again
Great video, Jan. Love the drive over shots. Maybe you want to still order a $2400 tire so that you have one on hand as a spare so you don’t need to spend twice as much on a rushed order next time. Those prices are unbelievable. Seems like some major gouging happening.
There's tires for tractors that are even well above 2400. That sounds like a bargain. Lot of upkeep on the farm.
The snow should help insulate your rye and the moisture will actually end up helping it.. i wouldn't worry.. just stay off it with your slurry plans for a bit longer eShrug.. Much love and Thanks so much for sharing
Thanks for calming my nerves! 🫡👌🏻
The rye will be fine. Won't be growing buy won't die; shouldn't affect yield too much.
Didn’t think it would last long. WOW! Incredibly expensive! Since Covid everything has gone crazy! People don’t have a clue what it takes to operate a business like you do!
If the rye will be covered by the snow it should by good as this should not be long lasting freeze. I seeded spring barley this fall and we had -15 ať night in january for 3 days. And the barley was covered by 2 cm od snow and IT survived. But other farms that didn't have the snow were not so lucky.
I love the editing you did on the manure loading. I'm assuming you did so many loads that you just moved the camera between loads, but either way, it was cool to see shots of every aspect of it. Keep up the great videos!
The Bossman is a tough cookie !
He is, he's a smart farmer.
While working at the Railway here in Canada operating very big mobile machines for moving Overseas Containers. I was told that The tires for some of the machines
were $10,000 dollars each, some of them were tubeless radials and 8 feet tall.
You're much braver than I am, driving over those expensive Go-Pro cameras!! 😟 They do make for awesome shots! 👍👍
Cost of that wheel and tire is criminal. Feel bad for you all.
Thanks Jan for sharing the new video. Why is a tire so expensive for that machine, $4,800.00 each? 😮 What a way to start Spring 🙄 Such is life...
Remember, it's tire and rim. $2400 for a tire isn't that nuts. The lead time was stupid though
Tjonge jonge! Thats expensive. Just an idea, but maybe a place like Gratton Coullee, or Combine World, might have something from a salvage machine. Had an opportunity to travel from our home in Lacombe, to our daughters new home in Yorkton a month ago. Went right past Asquith, so now I have a better idea of your location. Having been a viewer for 3 years, it was good to travel past your location to get a good sense of the lay of the land. Good to see Vader on camera every now and then. It's not everyones cup of tea, but given the success of your channel, he is a fairly important part of the whole operation. I, for one, would enjoy seeing and hearing, a bit more from him. Maybe it's a work in progress. Love the videos, and appreciate your integrity. It's not easy to put yourself out there, but as a viewer, it's just so interesting to see the real side of farming in Western Canada. Keep up the excellent work all.
I was thinking it would be cool to give Vader the go pros for a day to see his perspective.
@@billinburlington5507 Kan dat?
Not often that I get run over by a big tractor of poop lol. Love those shots. Ouch on the new tire. I hope that one is just a fluke and the others do not fail you. Gotta love the up and down weather. Great video and thanks.
The tire is probably ply separated. It will shake the heck out of you on the road but doing what you are it could last forever. Like any rhizome plant the wheat will just tuck down and wait it out. I like how the cows react to new bedding to play in. Good video. Pax.
Another great video bud thanks . Much respect from Maine
I love how happy they are with new straw!!! Happy cows are the cutest!!
Holy crap I was trying to take a guess at the price of that tire, I knew it would be pricey but I didn’t comprehend how pricey. No pun intended but that has to be deflating. That and the fact when you look outside it looks more like November than April right now. This snow has a lot of moisture and with highs of + 17 for next week this year may have two run off events! The silver lining in the snow cloud. If farming was easy everybody would be doing it.💪
I meant to comment in the other video, but regarding the sump pump, you can take a five gallon bucket, drill a bunch of ½” holes, add landscape fabric to the inside and put the pump in the bucket. You can add some large gravel to help filter the water too.
Great video , everyone working very hard , team work !
Hello again from London... I first subscribed to you when you had just 453 Subscribers lol. Look at you now!!! You're so good with the video-editing.... Views from multiple angles etc.... It keeps the video much more interesting and nicer to watch...I'm so glad you're doing well - and keep-it-up young Man....😁
Hi Jan I’ve looked up the Bunning lowland 230 tyre sizes and on Big tyres in the Uk they are about £700/1200 dollars floatation tyres are very common in the Uk they also would put in touch with exporters not sure what the cost would be something think about in the future
Hook him up, it’s cheaper and I guess better quality than Chinese cheap ones
Thanks for another great video, so interesting to see what you get up to. I'm in Australia and I will never take my milk and dairy products for granted. Have a great one.
That corral was slicker than snot on a rooster’s lip!
Slicker than snot on a new doorknob 😊 My Dad used to say that - it must be an old-time saying!
Waiting 3 to 6 months for a tire!!! just incredible
What about building a Shed for the youngstock?
Its alot of work an loss of straw when it rains all the time?!
Just a half of the correls with a Shed would help out very effektive
Good Video!
It definitely does not rain all the time… but you are right we just can’t justify the expense
He is in Saskatchewan, they wish it would rain all the time.
The new tires for a good Jobs have Nice day
$4800. is alot of milk sold for a tire. Getting so ya have to check how much parts are for equipment before ya buy the equipment.
Absolute truth.
Well a lot of parts are made to be "unique" these days. IE Griggs farms had a turbo go out and got it rebuilt, but simply taking the injectors out screwed all the posts on them because they are designed to be one time use. So they have to replace some injectors, the whole wiring harness etc because Case used very soft brass posts and nuts. So a 400$ turbo fix will be in the range of 5k now.
Looks like that New Holland loader could use some tires as well. I bet those are more expensive than the spreader.
That sucks that the belts separated, I feel your pain on tire prices, the trellborgs I use are between 2400-2700. But the lead time isn't that far out.
you should have a gate that opens up on the back then you are not tearing up the feed alley and no turning the tractor and wagon
That’s not expensive - that’s downright criminal!
Jan, I know the tyre cost hurts but you should get another on order so you are waiting the 6 months while you don't NEED another. Then when it comes in you'll have another rim to put it on. I know it hurts now but you'll be better prepared next time a tyre fails.
As long as you got snow cover the rye should be fine
At least your getting some moisture for your fields
good job u guys!
It was funny seeing the girls getting all excited for new fresh bedding. I thought only young / new borns jumped around so much. 🙂
If you do need to use a pump, what we do in muckey Water is put it in a 5 gallon bucket. Philip Fuller, clean Stone and drill a few holes in it works awesome. Of course, you have to make a little hole in the muck to sink it into
Keep them coming from the imperial county California 🇺🇲👍
Dont worry about the rye, we kept flip flopping between+20 and -15 in February/March and when it was nice iy grew, when it was cold it basically just hit pause, didn't hurt it at all.
"43 inches of rain"..average UK rainfall..46 inches ! This winter , who knows , seems to have been raining since last July ! Suspect the wheel is so expensive because the dealer is shipping a complete wheel straight from the UK, where Bunnings are manufactured
Hello from Uzbekistan 🇺🇿
Can't you ask your Bunning dealer if they have a used unit to grab a tire off until it comes in, or ?? Or taking it into a tire remanufacer? Getting it retread... There's a Tirecraft dealer(s) near you? Maybe look into the cost of getting it overseas and have it shipped.
Tires are very expensive these days. Even for my car. Better look out for some back up used tires to hide away for emergencies. 😊
GREAT video . Good luck on the rye.. Be careful.
Seems industrial/commercial tires are hard to find all over! Mining esp.....
That wagon [contents] has more value than political promises.
the price of milk going up
Is their away you could fill that pool in corral up with dirt and level it then pack it down to keep water standing in corral with the cattle.
That actually the solution it’s just one of the easiest things to fall by the wayside
@@saskdutchkid 👍
Won’t hurt the rye a bit, just won’t grow,,,,,you’ll be fine
🇺🇸🇨🇱
The cost of everything is absolutely ridiculous. Hope the tire hangs in there for you. Keep up the good work. 🇨🇦💪🏻
Shouldn’t be an issue for the rye. We had the same scenario here in the eastern parts of Canada two weeks ago and the rye is still thriving after a night at -19 and 6 inches of snow the next day in early April!
Love your videos. Time to replace your Canadian flag that you flew your drone over in the last video. It’ll be way cheaper than the new tire 😂🇨🇦🇨🇦
It's the same weather here were i live in NW of Sweden 4+c maximum 7+celsius but cold nights whit -6 celcius the last days, and rain and sometimes snow even her!!!
If you think that's expen$ive, try ordering a tire for a jetliner. You may, temporarily, try using a tire/rim from the liquid manure spreader. If they are the same brand equipment, the tires/rims may be interchangeable. Could work until you get the new tire. Thanks for the video. Jan Van Veldthuijzen
I dont know how mutch straw you need but if you can save one or two bales a day (100$) ist shut easy pay a roof or i am wrong ?
I heard that a roe grader , 3 wheel giant fertilizer spreader , tires are 10,OOO each , yes things are so expensive .
Think of winter rye just like the grass in your yard how it makes it over the winter.
My guess before I heard your prices was $3000. Inflation!
Dumb question, but would it help the tires in the future when over winter they would be lifted off the ground to protect from frost damage, if that's even a thing in tires. And yeah I get that would be a lot of work for heavy equipment to get them on axel stands or blocks, with out giving the safety freds out there a stir.
not surprised on the tire cost, he said they are around 10 years old that's pretty good in my books, it could be worse too the haul truck at our mine cost $60,000+ each (360,000 for a truck) im sure the delivery charge is over $10,000 just to get them to site
In Saskatoon, they're expecting -11°C. In Phoenix we're expecting +37°C.
As others have commented, I don't think the freezing temperatures will hurt your rye much. A winter seeded crop like that becomes very tolerant to early season frost. It probably slows it down somewhat but likely won't seriously hurt it. That's unlike a spring seeded crop. If it was a spring crop that got -11 C temp then I'd guess it might not kill it completely but a lot of it would die. Plants are pretty amazing what they can take. If they couldn't take it, early frosts would kill them and natural selection would take it's course.
Damn that new holland wheel loader sounds mean🔥
That loading would go so much faster with a grapple on that Case loader.
Nice camera work!
I like the way you take the time to move your camera around for interesting angles.
New tires will save the Breaks especially when he’s using the Left break to Steer exiting the Pens!
Nah I don't think rye will be hurt, we never had problems with out variety and that size, I hope you won't either
If you load the first 2 scoop of hard manure you can fill the top with wet staff and won’t leak as much
Snow and rain is good fot the feelds
I watch Sonne farms and they have a great bale shredder. Would work quick and fast in your big pens.
Wow yeah that's a very expensive fix 😳
Maybe 10 grand in for tires in Canada, it's 20 grand in the states!!
If the tyre is coming direct from bunning, its prob about 12 miles away from me, here in norfolk, uk!!!!
Great Video!!
Oh Jan, you fell into that nasty "I think I changed the barns over too early" problem. I've done that here in Montreal numerous years. Sucks when mother nature sends days of great plus temps, then she tosses some snow and freezing temps, and she gives us a false sense of security that Winter is Finally over !!! UGH I hate when that happens.
If you get a layer of snow on the rye it should be fine.
I would try Penner tire in Manitoba they are amazing
🎥👏👍 I guess it didn't come easy but that was some really nice camera angels, well done! 👍
Drivin over the camera is sucha ballzy move man!! Very cool!!
Jon.
The weather sure can give you a new twist to farming. The none farm folks that think farming it is a cream puff they maybe should live a year on a working farm before they open their pie hole and speak or judge farmers.
Jon, you are a hard-working farm person. Thank you for the videos.
Please take care. 👈👍😊
If you don't get a frost with the cold temperature it will slow it down but not hurt it
Did you try in the US for that tire? We get taken to the cleaners in Canada on just about everything. I have bought trailer tires in the US for less than half of here in Ontario. I had them senr to a holding place on the US side, drove down, and then imported them myself.
Love the camera work Steven Spielberg here you come
rebuild the axle with a more common wheel.
Thank you for using Freedom Units when discussing the rain storm. When you use millimeters you might as well be speaking Chinese 🤣🤣
Well Jan looks like you need to set a lemonaid stand out near the road to generate some $$$ tohelp pay for that rimmed tire. WAIT, in you case you be selling glasses of Milk,. 😮 But really I feel for you. Such is the reality of farming anymore. Good vidio, take care.
Can you explain why you have corrals? Would you ever build a barn for replacement heifers?
Cost. I doubt they will anytime soon.
I don't know what bolt pattern in that machine has but I would look into super singles off of semi much cheaper just an idea enjoy your videos
Food is expensive. Milk is put ragpus. Yes I understand the 5 gallon milk. You get 50 cents of it by the time you feed care for ect the cows. Every thing is expensive
Nice video
Why couldn't you put tile systems in the corals like farmers do in there fields. Seems like it would b beneficial for the animals and equipment and time management? Just Sking.
Praying God’s protection over your rye crop.
Would it be expensive to cover all those outdoor corals??
I am a farmer to and i Also think prices are hig. But Atleast in europe farmers get more payed for milk and other products. Still sucks tho(love youre videos❤)
Is it possible to add tracks instead of tires?
You could switch to wide truck tires the same as used on front of 20 000lb dump truck or concrete mixer front axles. Used truck tires are cheap
You've probably answered this before but wouldn't it be easier to clean out the pens with the grabber? Couldn't you get more per scoop that way?🤔
The grapple has feeding priority. (Which takes multiple hours, twice per day) They'd have to wait until after the morning feeding was over. Then they'd only get a few hours of use out of it before having to clean the bucket for the afternoon feeding.
Have you called kk penner here in manitoba
