This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank You so much. I'm torturing myself by switching back and forth between Cachy and Windows. I think the best solution is probably just getting a bigger NVMe and dual booting both..
@@ProtoDeVNan0 Yes, dual booting is great. Especially if you also install the Refind boot manager, which allows you to choose the system you want to boot to easily on start up. For two drives the only option on the Legion Go would be an SSD and a Micro-SD (which would be too slow for some of the modern AAA titles, but no problem for most games, just giving a bit less performance and highly increased loading times) -> But probably you meant on a normal pc, right? That would be a good tip and make it easier there not having to partition everything. Probably even running slightly faster?
I've been using CachyOS and Windows 11 side by side on the Rog Ally and some games do indeed feel smoother on cachy OS and you can lower the TDP more and still be able to run games smoothly so i feel lije th OS itself reayires less power, which is important 9n a battery handheld. Overall, nice simple comparison video, i would recommend having a small screen with the stats in big before/after every clip you show.
@@ChukSum Hi and thank you for your nice comment. I was already thinking about zooming more into the stats, but I wanted to make shore the viewers could also properly see how fluid the gameplay really is and not just the numbers. Ty for the video been looking this specifically for the legion go.
Hi @jsleon3k, yes it boots to a steam OS like gaming mode frontend like Bazzite. For me it essencially looks and feels exactly the same. Also Handheld Daemon for TDP control can be accessed by double tapping onto the right Legion button. The game suspend mode works great like in Bazzite, or Steam OS. And yes, it feels like Steam OS. If you want to dual boot to it, I would recommend to you to look at the two videos I added in into the description from Philippine Gamer's Lounge, as he explains it really well how to properly install, partition and how to install this additional tool which allows you to choose CachyOS, or Windows 11 at start up. Great comparison, im on bazzite dual booting with window 11 i always curious abuot the performance of bazzite and cachyOS. One thing that i realize in your video is that you set 30w tpd and 800p resolución, do you prefer to use 800p/fsr over 1200p with in game fsr? Because the second option is better if the game support natively FSR.
Hi @darksaga02, yes all the comparisons were done in 30 Watt mode in CachyOS and in the highest custom TDP settings possible in Windows. I usually prefer 800p over 1200p, to have higher frame rates. On Windows I'm using the integer scaling option in the AMD drivers and set the games to 800p ingame and switch the system resolution to 1600p, which gives a big image quality improvement with low to no impact on performance. For older games I prefer to directly play on the display's native 1600p. But I think it is just a matter of how you prefer to play 😉.
I would love to, but I just sold my Legion Go... And with my main Desktop PC I currently don't have time... But the idea is great (was already considering it before) and I will definetly consider this in the next weeks 😉👍 Anyway I can tell you that I already compared Win 11 and Bazzite personally in 2 or 3 games and Bazzite was more or less on par with Win 11. Some times slower sometimes the same and in seldom cases faster. On CachyOS instead every Game I tested was running faster than on Win 11 as you can see on this video; sometimes a bit, sometimes a lot. Of course I don't know how the latest Bazzite Version holds up, but I just watched another comparison Video of another TH-camr and the situation between Bazzite and Windows 11 is the same. Even though it highly differs from game to game in average Win11 is still slightly faster. CachyOS instead is faster than windows by far 😉👍👍
Phoronix had something about an NTSYNC (not the band) kernel feature needing some changes that gained some pretty impressive perf for some games. There's indeed still perf on the table, so I agree with you.
Yes, I've heard about it, unluckily... The problem is that Nvidia isn't delivering proper Linux drivers... There seem to be workarounds, but still issues can happen...
No CachyOS runs well on Nvidia hardware. CachyOS is using the latest now open source Nvidia drivers. Nvidia is planning to EOL their closed source Linux driver. Probably will happen this year. Nvidia now recommends using their open source driver over their proprietary driver that was a PITA. Lots of people happily using CachyOS for Nvidia gaming.
