This film captures Journey’s concert at the SM Mall Of Asia in Manila, Phillipines on March 14th, 2009. It marked the return to his hometown of the band’s then newly arrived singer and frontman Arnel Pineda. Journey delivered an inspired performance in front of an adoring crowd as they played a set of greatest hits interspersed with tracks from their 2008 album “Revelation”. This is a must-have for any Journey fan.

Holy fuck, from an outsider's perspective on Journey, this dude's absolutely fucking killing it. That voice was born to rock.
I grew up hearing Journey on the radio all the time. Never bought an album, and never considered myself a fan. But agree wholeheartedly with you here.

I've been a Steve Perry fan since 1981 and I admit that Arnel gets DANGEROUSLY close to how Perry's live vocals sounded in the early 80's and that is AMAZING stuff

Even after all these years, Arnel does not get the credit he deserves for the incredible frontman he is.

Arnel is practically a national hero in the Philippines. My daughter's two best friends from college are Filipina. They day after I saw Journey live in 2011, I was on phone with my daughter telling her about the concert. She asked me how the new lead singer was, and in the background I heard her roommate asking excitedly "Are you talking about the guy from Journey?" Filipinos have a very strong sense of National pride, and they all adore their countrymen who become famous.

And a cocaine addict for 20 years lodt his voice in 2005. Recovered and his videos singing survivor, led zeppelin, journey, and other songs were uploaded on youtube, that's when neal schon found him. The rest is history

My God... The multiple "eargasms' this performance gives me is beyond comprehension. I've already listened to this live masterpiece an unhealthy amount of times. These guys are true professionals in their fields and they came to SLAY big time! Arnel's talent is unbelievable and the emotion and passion he brings to each song is undeniably amazing. Close your eyes and you will be mesmerized. He has great stage presence and commands it and gets the crowd going and feeling every vibe. This is my favorite Journey line up ever. Neal is the man! He is so underrated. Jon on keyboards is pure magic and those intros he does is crazy. Ross is always super cool. And damn Deen... He came to SLAY! Love Steve Smith, but Deen brings power and sexiness to the band and the way he hits that drum kit blows me away, while doing a great job singing vocals too.
And please... Stop the hate and comparisons. Steve will always be Steve and will always be a part of Journey. And Arnel is Arnel and he brought new life and an exciting resurgence to this iconic band. Please let's all just appreciate the fact that these guys love what they do and want to keep playing until they can't no more. Like they all say... The show must go on and Arnel helped do just that. He's phenomenal and also brings international appeal. His fellow Filipinos completely love and support him. I'm also a proud Filipina and have been a huge Journey fan since the early 80's. I'm 55 and I'm so thankful that I still get to enjoy all the magic that is Journey. Steve and Arnel both respect one another and we should take their lead. Arnel loves Steve and the band and what a blessing that he is now continuing Steve's legacy. I'm sure Steve is extremely proud. And I love happy endings. Such a heartwarming story about Arnel. A true Cinderella story for the ages and love it when good things happen to good people. And come on man, if Neal and Jon believe in him then who are we to judge and complain? They knew what they were doing choosing AP. Journey saved Arnel, but in all honesty, it was Arnel who saved Journey as they are enjoying a worldwide resurgence and love seeing this diehard band enjoying what they love and that's playing amazing music! Enjoy them while they're still alive. I know I am and will continue to love and support them until the end. Rock on Journey! Don't ever stop believing... 🔥❤️😎🤟

I hope this will shut all the haters up and those who keep comparing AP to SP and to the die hard SP fans who refuse to accept the fact that he's no longer the frontman. You all need to watch and listen to Steve's speech as they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His speech was awesome and he graciously acknowledged Arnel, told him he loved him and thanked him for keeping Journey's legacy alive. These two amazing men have such mutual respect and admiration for each other. Steve obviously approves of Arnel being Journey's lead singer. Hell he's already been doing it for 15 years and counting. So please... Enough with the hate and comparisons already. Do you think Steve would approve of the hate and bashing? Of course not! It's getting old and boring. We should all be happy and blessed that we can still continue to enjoy the amazing legacy and new sounds of Journey with Arnel at the helm. The band loves and believes in him so we all should too. Arnel is so talented in his own right and continues to bring that soulful, emotional and legacy Journey sound that Neal and Jon were looking for for the longest time. He may be the new front man and he’s good. I’ll give him credit but they have no new music. Just a cover band now. Steve Perry is Journey. Can’t change that. If they want to change it they should produce some new music instead of getting a guy who sounds like Perry. Can’t ignore that. His spirit isn't there, he's performing too much, no feel. I really feel like I'm seeing a good tribute band. Perry is like top 2 of all time greatest singer. I saw Journey live at the Meadowlands in 1982 (Greg Khin opened) and I will say that Arnel does the group justice. One of the best replacement singers ever.

WOW! A TOTAL PERFORMER. You can't see or hear him catch his breath while singing despite his doing strenuous dancing, running and jumping. Too much energy and physically fit. Never loses air which their manager was afraid of when they first saw Arnel perform in Chile.

Maria Sullivan: I never been to any Journey concert but I am a die hard fan of them and I would love to come to one of their concerts and every once in a while I order Journey merchandise on Amazon and yesterday I ordered a shirt with the cover of their album captured and I have a phone case of the cover for their album frontiers and I have the original version of this song on ITunes and also the original version of Don't Stop Believin' and I love lots of Journey's songs I also like Faithfully, Any Way You Want It, Open Arms, Lights, and Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'.

Steve sings melodically and with a lot of harmony in the trebles. they are similar in a moment and end with different finishes.

The thing that strikes me most is that people get the impression that he's trying to be Steve. He isn't. He was auditioned by the band members of Journey and he got the job. Watching Journey band in Manila the Philippines was the best..I was on this concert. The voice of Arnel especially when live.. was so enticing.

Perry would have not lasted the whole 25 songs, Maybe 12 max 30 years ago. Who, in his right mind would just decide to disappear at the height of his career and literally leave his band in limbo for a decade? When he reappeared in 1998, he backed out and never to return again just before their scheduled concert tour, voice issues? Maybe, just like Augeri, he damaged his vocal chords. All we know is, he just did sporadic small gigs, recordings, & guestings as a solo artist.

Personally, I feel, that Steve should have NEVER left JOURNEY. He gave them that signature sound, with his amazing vocals. Still, this is just my opinion. Through it all, Steve will always go down as being one of the very best male vocalist of a band. Whatever he is doing these days, I wish him the greatest success! Period! Peace.
AP here is 42 years old (2009). The voice is incredible, crisp and power.
Today 2016, listen to this voice and I think it's little by little diminishing but still
very good to hear. I think AP should not abuse his voice by taking to many engagements
beyond what he could have by taking time to rest to replenish the voice.

At first, I was under the impression this was the original frontman. His voice is incredible! So close to the original! And he's a native Philipino, too. How did he come across this incredible opportunity? This concert is literally the first time I've heard about him. I have no way how he took a chance at performing basically in front of his entire nation in a concert and absolutely nail it. Hats down!

Arnel has got an incredible voice and great stage presence. I watched a documentary about how he joined Journey. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who is one of Steve Perry's biggest fans and is so honoured to be his successor with the band.

This Journey Concert in Manila with AP was simply spectacular !!!-- No words to describe how great was AP and the rest of the iconic members ( N Schon, J Cain, D Castronovo, R Valory ) perform such a blast of energy and incredible talents each one of the musicians delivered that night !! The raspiness of AP's voice showed more of his mesmerizing tenor pitch-perfect vocals especially when he sings ballads, full of soul and emotions! And when he sings rock songs-- the whole crowd rocks with him-it's just incredible-- AP captured the stage with his powerful performances !! .... Congratulations to AP for his 15th year as frontman for Journey, this year of 2022 !!! Can't wait to see their LIVE Concert again, SOON !!! Journey rocks !!

I happen to think that Arnel is a fantastic singer, and took an amazing opportunity with Journey. I grew up with Steve singing, and love his voice differently. Steve had some kind of magical power and gift that isn’t always explainable. Arnel was picked out for his incredible and awesome vocal ability, but was different than Steve’s very special voice. Love them both, but always pick Steve’s singing, back in the day. I’ve seen them both in concert, and both rocked me. Steve in the early days seemed to take me to another plane of existence.
This live concert is the best performance of journey ever.. Powerful voice of Arnel and the strumming of guitar is extremely beautiful!!!

It’s not gonna get any better than this. This is perfect. They took an epic song with the original, made it even better with the Revelation version, then took that and put it on steroids to make this. The instruments sound perfect, Arnel sounds authentic and legitimate (Not saying Perry didn’t or the album releases didn’t either), the hype from the crowd, everyone’s enthusiasm, all of that comes together to make this the best version of the song, my favorite version of it, and overall my favorite song of all time.

I saw Journey in 2014 and again in 2017 and I was blown away both times by Arnel's voice and his energy! He was born to sing!

A lot of bands end up tragic shamble yet I'm really pleased to see the "old" original members smiling. This Philippine man from apparently out of thin air has rejuvenated their tired bodies and souls. God bless them all! I thoroughly enjoy this band both Perry and Pineda versions. I think its kind of cool like Fleetwood Mac or something. I wish them all the best and I am happy to hear a singer truly belt and use his range and pipes for once and not mumble or whisper or whatever they call it nowadays!

If you listen to them side by side Arnel does not sound like Steve Perry, but he does sound like Journey. He was the perfect addition to the band.

Amel Pineda was barely getting by singing in sketchy dive bars etc and then the band contacted him and offered him an audition after Steve left...this is literally a dream come true for Amel and I think it's awesome how he has brought the band back

they got so lucky to find Arnel ! everybody wants to hear the Journey songs sung as close to the way Steve sang them if Steve is no longer going to be in the band and they found him ! this is what i want if i pay my hard earned money to see them and i have seen them in recent years and Arnel was great !!

Like what ross valory said in their docu/film, they never had so much successive tours before(Perry's time). So yeah aside from arnel's age, I'd say they mis managed his voice
E Jean Arnel has a backup lead singer helping him out with the vocals - Deen Castronovo did it until he was let go. He hasn’t toured anywhere nearly as much as Steve Perry who’s still done the most shows out of all the lead singers to this day. Ross Valory is a total ditz.
