      I'm not defending KD but we have to be fair. Nr1 it was reported that KD didn't want James Harden to be traded for Simmons. He preferred Beal but Sean Marsk believed in Ben Simmons.
      Nr2. Ky spoke with Lebron weeks ago about a reunion and KD knew it. When Ky opted in it was clear that the Nets had no choice but going for a trade for Ky and the Lakers are the only willing taker in return for Westbrook and picks. Now KD doesn't want to reunite with Russ so I can understand why he requested a trade 7h b4 the free agent

  • @gabriel-uc1uz
    @gabriel-uc1uz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +216

    Lets say the trade demand was motivated by the Warriors win, Why wouldn't KD then go into next season and ball out and win? Instead he wants to get traded to the first seed in either conference to make the trip to the finals as easy as possible.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv ปีที่แล้ว

      @throbbinhood1670 Obviously in normal life you’d expect the vast majority of people to take the easier route to accomplish an end goal. But the rationale for why a player wouldn’t jump to the easy way out is in a situation like KD where he cares about legacy and how he’s remembered. He took the easiest road to get rings and have the “he’s never won a ring” monkey off his back when he jumped over to GS and won a couple rings. But as we’ve seen those rings are largely not respected and brushed aside because of how he took the easiest route to get them rather than leading a team past adversity to win rings. There’s a reason why he’s spoken about how empty he felt when he won in GS and that’s because he took the easy route to get his rings and it did nothing to quiet the critics. If a player cares about legacy building then they don’t jump to the easy road - KD is a great player and probably one of the top players to ever play the game. But he probably will not be remembered favorably because at every turn in his career whenever adversity struck he abandoned ship as soon as he could. That’s not the things that people remember somebody as a great does.

    You make your bed, you lay in it. The legacy move would have been to stay in OKC and right the wrong of blowing the 3-1 to Golden State. If he genuinely wanted, they would have chosen him over Westbrook. They chose Westbrook, because Durant wouldn't give them a straight answer. He took the easy route to go to Golden State and was rightfully flamed for it. Went there talking about their beautiful team basketball, and then started talking about needing to play more Iso. That team did everything to accommodate him, but he realized that they were never going to see that as his team. It was always going to be Steph's team. Steph led the very building of that team and culture. Before long, he ran into more issues, because he wouldn't give them a straight answer. They all knew he was plotting to leave and team up with Kyrie, but he wouldn't give them a straight answer. He then left to lead his own team to a title, because contrary to what he claims, he actually cares very much about the criticism. He then somehow believed that he could make it work with Kyrie- wrong, had Nash brought in- wrong, had Harden brought in- wrong and it has been a disaster. So now, the team that paid him max dollars in a year they knew he wouldn't play, at a time when there was uncertainty over whether he would return to his old form, and now he wants out. But any team that wants him would have to significantly weaken their team, just to acquire him. You can't tell the media "You know who I am", and demand max money, but then expect a team to trade you for lower value. So, no matter how he slices it, he'll be stuck. Either he'll be stuck in Brooklyn with Kyrie and Ben Simmons, or he'll be on an island somewhere else.

      I don't disagree that OKC would've kept KD over Russ, but the difference is Russ WANTED to be there. KD NEVER wanted to be there. Russ is OKC's first pick (technically) , OKC is and was his NBA home from day one. KD was drafted by Seattle and liked it there and didn't want the team to leave there. The team left and went to OKC which is very different from Seattle and he didn't really like it there. If I'm on the fence about being on a team and I don't even like the location, I wouldn't stay either. With all of that said though, his next move should've been a permanent move and not a team that just came back from 3-1 on him.

      Excuses for Steph? Steph stayed on one team and his teammates stats go up around him. He a four time champion and only unanimous mvp. Kd won two chips, lead in scoring during those but Steph was being doubled teamed and Kd was shooting a lot of mostly wide open shots.

    People who moved a lot during childhood typically have troubles connecting to others and a need to change environments every 2-3 years. I'm surprised that KD was able to stay with Seattle/OKC as long as he did. KD was ready to bolt the Warriors months before the Draymond Green situation, but made it 3 years. Its now been 3 years with the Nets. It will likely be 3 years with his next team.
