Ive seen so many top hairstylists around the world working on stage and giving amazing hair cutting demonstrations and all of them Palm their scissors like Matt does. It gives more advantages than any other way. thank you Matt, this video is a must see for all the hairdressers.

Matt thanks for the video. I'm currently in school studying pivot point. They show your palming technique in the book. I use this palming technique. To me it's a lot easier to keep the scissors away from client and have control of comb.

Although it may not be that common. It's definitely impressive. I was wondering how u did that. It just shows how comfortable you are with your shears. Clients love to see something different! 👍👍 thanks for the education!

Hi Matt and thanks for the reply. I was trained in the west end of London and all the main stylists of my generation don't hold their scissors that way. Most if not all Stylists from a Sassoon background don't. TH-cam is a great place to showcase work and opinions and I enjoy watching good work. Nick Berardi is very good and he holds scissors in the old way.
The comments I made are not negative and I enjoy watching your channel, it's good to see a young guy putting himself out there. I will make comments on your channel when relevant, but will never be negative.
Best wishes Matt and good luck with the channel.

The shop owner gives me shit for palming like that haha but I like it better. More out of the way, pointed down and away, and I have more control over my comb as well.

Matt, I'm not convinced about palming scissors for many reasons. I was never thought to hold scissors this way and never saw anyone doing it either. I don't think it's very safe when using long scissors, 7" and above. Look at all the top end stylists that have been in the trade for 20 years plus and you won't see them doing it. Maybe it's a young hip thing, but juggling should be left at the circus, anyway think of dropping your 1000 dollar scissors on their points, not good.
In answer to Jose, it's probably down to experience and preference, but I prefer to use clippers on dry hair. Magnetic clippers tend to jam with wet hair, but mechanical clippers made by ANDIS and Oster to name two work ok, but it mostly comes down to choice.
Keep posting the vids Matt, they promote interest and discussion for our craft.

Thanks for the comment John. I'm not sure what top industry hairdressers you have been watching but almost all that I have seen over the last 10 years Palm their scissors. This video is definitely not a must do for salon professionals it's completely up to personal preference. Also I have never dropped my scissors because of this technique. Thanks for posting and watching the video.

I disagree I think this is better for longer shears because it gets the sharp end away from their face especially when cutting the top of their hair but I only cut men and boys hair and I've only been doing it for 11 years so 🤷🏻‍♀️
