I already had a Bergara B-14 Timber 308 (which has an amazing trigger, by the way), so I wasn’t at all in the market for another bolt-action 308 rifle, but when I saw the wood grain on this one particular Stevens 334 308 at my local Bass Pro Shop, I scrambled to pull together $530 on a moments notice and bought it. It has those pronounced walnut tiger stripes all the way up and down the entirety of the stock and on all sides. They had two other walnut stock Stevens 334s beside it with plain Jane walnut stocks.
Thanks for sharing 👍 You will find out very quickly that the Savage Stevens 334 does not have an amazing trigger. Accuracy was great tiny little groups and then they started to string which was one of the screws for the rail had worked itself loose. Jay I love this 334. I picked up mine on New Years Day from Academy for $279! I prefer the heavier weight and thicker barrel than others in its class. The Axis has a very “jiggly” bolt with its two piece design. The 334 goes into battery with purpose and doesn’t make any noise. Can’t wait to sight it in and get some groups!

Hey Jay, I have one, take a closer look at the trigger assembly. I hunted with mine this season and will only chamber a round when I intend to pull the trigger now.

@@JayLewisFarmStyle Very simply, not wanting a featherweight trigger, I removed the stock, accessed the trigger spring tension screw or bolt, backed it off to the hilt, dry tested it, replaced the stock, and tightened all relevant fittings. From an appearance standpoint it looks way better than most all of the US made budget friendly rifles. Nobody wants to carry around an ugly rifle. Savage is one of the worst in my opinion. Their bolt being bobbed off on the rear looks really weird and I never liked it. I like the way the Stevens bolt is done at the back. The wood on that example is also awesome looking. I can't imagine all of them will look as good as that one. That being said if the accuracy turns out to be reasonably accurate I would buy the Stevens over any of the other budget brands.
Agreed indeed. Savage has long been known for utilitarian looking rifles. This one is a move in the right direction. While I haven't seen any others up close I doubt the wood on the average example looks this good. Thanks again for sharing 👍

Great review, and video quality! Earned a sub 👍🏻I picked one of these up the other day in 6.5 with the synthetic stock. Haven’t got to shoot it yet but it’s pretty damn heavy duty compared to others in its price point. The stock is a lot more ridged than the others I looked at (even more expensive ones). I’ve read the procedures from ata, cleaned the goop of the adjustment screw. Might try messing with it once scale is available.
In Germany we get this rifle branded as a ,,Brenner". We get two magazines included ( three shoot and five), a threaded muzzle and a rifle suitcase. The Trigger is AJUSTIBLE!! So are the reviews show that this does have an adjustable trigger with a hole in the bottom of the trigger guard for a screwdriver. Could you attempt to adjust the trigger and then do another video?
ATA Turqua rifles do have an adjustable trigger (accessible through the hole in the trigger guard). Savage for whatever reason ordered these rifle with the adjustment screw ground off and glued in place with epoxy. We did a trigger "fix" video on this rifle. It is on our Rumble channel as YT doesn't allow modification videos. Here's the link to that: rumble.com/v49ysq6-making-the-stevens-334-better-with-a-free-diy-trigger-job.html In a nutshell it's not the preferred method but it works and appears safe so long as you don't overdo it.
Trigger pull aside, it's probably the nicest rifle in terms of pretty in the past few years. I hope the aftermarket will develop a good trigger option. We did a "trigger job" on this one and documented it here and on Rumble. I don't recommend the process we used to anyone that isn't extremely committed to safety and testing. We've done a few videos on this rifle since this production, and have obtained .3" groups with premium factory ammo. I hope you get one and keep watching our nonsense! Thanks for watching 👍
For what it's worth, I picked up mine 1/8/ 2024 and promptly got to the trigger. I think they have gotten wise to the mod because the adj screw on mine was locked in with something tough (Epoxy I think). Even with the perfect fitting screwdriver tip it is going to break one side if the screw top. I even tried heat from 45w soldering iron and no go.
So you are not wrong. I actually did a Rumble video last week on the trigger adjustment which I "successfully completed" based on what some other folks on the internet had done. While the trigger pull now is very light and crisp it came at the cost of the reliable function of the 3 position safety. Until I can revise that video and at least put a disclaimer in it I took it down. While I am personally content with the rifle functioning without a manual safety as I seldom ever use one to begin with, I want to mess around with it a little more and see if I can get it tuned without compromising the safety. It was the wood stock that first got my attention. Mine looks great, but I have to admit, yours has mine beat. I wanted 6.5, but .308 is all that's carried at Academy and I didn't want to take a chance on bad looking wood. Not too bad, I must say. I love that the shooting tables on our rifle range are concrete.
Thanks, I think I got pretty lucky on the wood. Who_Tee_Who got ahold of a 6.5 with decent wood that printed a .03" group the other day. This one hasn't done that well yet. I'm going to be putting out a follow-up range review video after doing the trigger tune. That will be out in a day or two. I hope you'll stay tuned. Thanks for sharing 👍
Scope height preference is generally pretty subjective, and as such ultimately depends on end user preference. As a matter of fact we covered scope height in the separate scope reviews that we for the optics on this rifle on the channel this past week. Here's the link to that: th-cam.com/video/ARKnrsLmVjg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xtsk2mzwiGzV5CPd the comment about scope height is at the 6 minute 45 second mark of that video. Both optics tested on this rifle were mounted in medium rings which are pretty much industry standard for a 40mm scope, particularly on rifles with heavier barrels. www.weaveroptics.com/weaveroptics-learn/top-mount-height-guide.html www.midwayusa.com/how-to-guides/ring-height Thanks for watching 👍
Yes. It is personal preference, but it may be something to consider with this model because if the comb is too low, you may need a cheek riser and that would take away from that beautiful wood stock.
ATA does make 5 round magazine which I've seen on the foreign market, but I haven't seen any here yet. That will probably eventually change. While I haven't tried it, I don't think an AICS magazine will fit, but it would be cool if they did.
These are medium and work well. I "personally" think medium are ideal for a 40-44mm objective lens. With a rail mount like this you could get away with low but it would be awfully low. By contrast high for this setup would be too high. Thanks for watching 👍
At present Savage is only importing these in .308, .243 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Also not options like threaded Muzzle etc as of yet. Hopefully their popularity will drive increased availabilities.
It's beautiful and you shot sub moa groups. Abd you got it for $399 Miricle.. Onlt one pounf heavier than the Waypoint And $2000 less. Anf the Waypoint could only get 2,0 moa groups, just watched it.
Take a look at this and see if we used the same method. It's a Rumble video because TH-cam hates mods. rumble.com/v44k856-making-the-stevens-334-better-with-a-free-diy-trigger-job.html
Agreed, he's a great guy! That being said, I did a bunch of research on this rifle before filming the review, and saw 4 videos that were nothing more than "Hey look at the pretty box it comes in!" that were between 10-20 minutes long (To his credit Adam's was only 10 minutes). I'm talking about introductory videos with no shooting data whatsoever. It's one thing to run a 2 minutes sneak peak, but 20 minutes talking about specifications is a bit much. Thanks for watching 👍
I would have already bought one if I could have got my mitts on it. I have not seen any in my local area as of yet, and after perusing the urine scented back alleys that are gunbroker I decided I was not willing to pay a premium just to be the first kid on the block to review one.
@@JayLewisFarmStyle I saw a 223 at academy here in Louisiana but I want a 7mm-08 or .308 in the gen 2 standard and either 6.5cm or 6mm ARC in the gen 2 ranch
I was after a 243 for the kids for Christmas. That was what the Crimson Trace Brushline BDC was supposed to go on. Plans changed but I'm still looking for that 243 gen 2.
He was shooting a 7" AR with a muzzle brake! The blast was rattling the whole bench. I bet he ran through 250-300 rounds. He's bound to have hit something! I was trying to time my shots in between his but that only partially worked. Thanks for watching 👍
@@JayLewisFarmStyle They should only allow those guys a minimum of 1 empty bench away from everyone else. Theyre simply obnoxious to shoot next to. The blast from the muzzle breaks is terrible even when you put on double hearing protection

I agree, the trigger is horrible and even after taking it down to 4.5lbs and making sure the safety works, it is still bad. Triggers should break at a crisp 3lbs for hunting. We need an after market trigger for this gem of a rifle.
There are more than 1.3 million people living in modern slavery in Turkey, which ranks fifth among 151 countries in which modern slavery is the most prevalent, according to the results of the 2023 Global Slavery Index. The study, which concerns data in 2021, was produced by the Australian-based human rights organization Walk Free and released on Wednesday. In the index modern slavery is described as covering “a set of specific legal concepts including forced labor, debt bondage, forced marriage, slavery and slavery-like practices, and human trafficking.”
I don't doubt it. Crazy part is that doesn't even begin to cover the mistreatment of religious minorities that occurs in Turkey. Amnesty International gave China the lowest possible rating for human rights violations over their persecution of the Uyghurs, Kazakhs and other minority groups. Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, (Insert random central American country) all over the globe to include the US of A injustice is a very real deal. How is this relevant to the discussion of a Turkish made rifle you might ask? I am admitting dinosaur era. However this looks to my eyes, a 1970s era a sporter Wichita 1250 or 1375 repeater, but a detachable magazine. This Steven's rifle will wipe out the Savage Axis. And rightly so.
@JayLewisFarmStyle So true. I think it did the 308 an injustice. Not like there is a whole lot of options available for a lighter bullet, which I believe would improve the accuracy of a 1/11 twist. Reminds me of Remington s mistake with 1/12 for the 244.
I don't know if you've seen it but we've got a video on Remington's (too little too late) 6mm. The 244/6mm was ballistically superior to the 243, but the 1:12 on the original 244 killed it for popularity.

@@JayLewisFarmStyle.. thats why we get this rifle only in .308 in Germany ! 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers an greetings from the black forest region (southern germany)👋🏻🌿 and waidmannsheil🌿
Same to you sir! 🍻
Here's the link to that: rumble.com/v49ysq6-making-the-stevens-334-better-with-a-free-diy-trigger-job.html
In a nutshell it's not the preferred method but it works and appears safe so long as you don't overdo it.
Lol, dude i have got to get rid of my savage. Thanks for the mention. I have already found a new .308, i will get it for my birthday in March.
We got to meet up someday I'll take that 110 off your hands
Is that what my Savage is? I don't even know, LOL.@@JayLewisFarmStyle
@@gunman-6646 I'm pretty sure it is.
Nice looking stock on that baby.
Ain't she pretty 😍
Just picked mine up in 6.5 my first hunting rifle
Good choice! Hopefully it'll be the first of many.
From what I’m seeing, that is a pretty nice rifle! I would like one!❤

Scope is mounted higher than most would recommend.

Yes. It is personal preference, but it may be something to consider with this model because if the comb is too low, you may need a cheek riser and that would take away from that beautiful wood stock.
Any idea if other manufacturers magazines are compatible? Having a hard time finding spare magazines.
ATA does make 5 round magazine which I've seen on the foreign market, but I haven't seen any here yet. That will probably eventually change. While I haven't tried it, I don't think an AICS magazine will fit, but it would be cool if they did.
Trigger adjusting screw is there. Get the glue out, trigger goes down to 2.5 lbs.

What is your local shooting range?
It changes from time to time, but the one used in this clip is Trinity Armory in Cleveland Texas.
Got one otw in black synthetic and 243..
Thanks for sharing 👍
Is it available in a left hand version?
No such luck.

Good thing cause that non-typical is great ammo. I think you let me know earlier that they were the same just a different box.
Good stuff either way!
med or high rings?
These are medium and work well. I "personally" think medium are ideal for a 40-44mm objective lens. With a rail mount like this you could get away with low but it would be awfully low. By contrast high for this setup would be too high.
Thanks for watching 👍
Do they come in 450bushmaster
At present Savage is only importing these in .308, .243 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Also not options like threaded Muzzle etc as of yet. Hopefully their popularity will drive increased availabilities.
It's beautiful and you shot sub moa groups.
Abd you got it for $399
Miricle..
Onlt one pounf heavier than the Waypoint And $2000 less.
Anf the Waypoint could only get 2,0 moa groups, just watched it.
yea my trigger was way too heavy, adjusted down too 3 1/2
Take a look at this and see if we used the same method. It's a Rumble video because TH-cam hates mods.

Sounds like a shot at Adam from who tee who, he’s such a nice dude
Agreed, he's a great guy!
That being said, I did a bunch of research on this rifle before filming the review, and saw 4 videos that were nothing more than "Hey look at the pretty box it comes in!" that were between 10-20 minutes long (To his credit Adam's was only 10 minutes).
I'm talking about introductory videos with no shooting data whatsoever.
It's one thing to run a 2 minutes sneak peak, but 20 minutes talking about specifications is a bit much.

@@JayLewisFarmStyle I hear ya, any plans on reviewing a ruger American gen 2?
I wonder if that guy next to was even hitting anything
He was shooting a 7" AR with a muzzle brake! The blast was rattling the whole bench. I bet he ran through 250-300 rounds. He's bound to have hit something!
I was trying to time my shots in between his but that only partially worked.
Thanks for watching 👍
@@JayLewisFarmStyle They should only allow those guys a minimum of 1 empty bench away from everyone else. Theyre simply obnoxious to shoot next to. The blast from the muzzle breaks is terrible even when you put on double hearing protection
@@JayLewisFarmStyle I didn’t have a blast diverted so I threw a brake on a 10.5 pistol. That came off after 5 rounds and the headache it gave me. Almost had to leave the range that day. And I was the one shooting
The fact he shot that much with a 7. I can only imagine
These stocks remind me of the Hatfield shotguns that came from Turkey. Good wood work come from the turkish

There's a lot of people that like watching unboxing videos. Me included.

I just took the Chinese made Otterbox cover off of my Vietnamese made Samsung Galaxy to check the country of origin while replying to your message.
Where was the device you used produced? What crimes against humanity is that country known for?
The moral high road is often a slippery slope.

rate of twist is 1/10 though
You would think however Savage's website lists it as a 1:11 in the specs. savagearms.com/content?p=firearms&a=product_summary&s=18838
@@JayLewisFarmStyle yea if u look it up on sportmans warehouse where i bought mine and scroll down it says 1/10 i could be wrong but most 30 cal guns are 1/10 so idk why savage says 1/11 thats just weird
I will check the twist rate in the near future and post it in a viewer feedback segment.
If you are thinking about buying one of these 334s, try to get an extra mag, good luck, I have the 308, NO ONE has an extra mag. Not even Savage.
I would hope that once the new wears off replacement/ extra mags will be available. In the meantime don't lose the one it came with.

I am admitting dinosaur era. However this looks to my eyes, a 1970s era a sporter Wichita 1250 or 1375 repeater, but a detachable magazine. This Steven's rifle will wipe out the Savage Axis. And rightly so.
It's a beautiful rifle and has an appeal to the traditionalist that the Axis will never draw.
wow, I feel cheated my Stevens 334 isn't as pretty
Thanks, it's a really pretty stock. I kinda feel like I got lucky with this one.
Scratching my head as to why they chose 1/11 twist. Makes no sense.
I have no idea. They went with conventional twist rates for the 243 (1:10) and 6.5 Creedmoor (1:8)
@JayLewisFarmStyle
So true.
Trigger sucks, gets .75 group😅.
Imagine what it could do if the trigger didn't suck!
We just did some hackery on it yesterday. Due to TH-cam's rules on mods we only posted it on Rumble.
