- After our old miter saw broke on us we had to replace it in a hurry. We did that with the DeWalt DWS779 & a miter saw stand. In this video we do and unboxing, overview, setup, complete run down, and even set it up on the Chicago Electric rolling miter saw stand. Time stamps below.

This is a the 3rd generation type 22 779. They removed the slide lock lever on the side and the preset bevel stops at back. Only the 780 now has those features. I assume Dewalt did this to upsell the 780. The original 779 was identical minus the xps light. Still a great saw👍
Thanks for the info!! I agree it’s a great saw, a little heavy to be toting to and from job sites. It has a huge footprint, but overall it’s a great saw!

Any idea what the screw that is hidden by your left thumb at 8:32 is for? Black screw, screws into nothing. I have the same saw and I can't figure it out.
Well after further inspection I have no idea what it’s there for. My best guess is it’s either from a feature that was removed on the updated model or it’s for another model that uses this same part, but has an added feature.

I’ve had this saw for a couple years now and the extra slide lock isn’t necessary. Unless you’re taking it on job sites all the time, it’s a good safeguard whilst carrying but that’s it. Very odd that it’s missing though.
That's the thing, we do take it on about 8 out of every 10 jobs we go on. so far so good though! thanks for the comment and watching.
I quite like the side lock. When I don't want to use the slide on the saw the lock gives me a quick and accurate way to set it for non sliding use.
Does the current 779 version have blade depth stop that allows dado cuts
The DWS779 does have the blade depth stop yes.
I am looking to replace ssame harbor freight saw. I only got 2 years out it fence cracked blade will not stay true. I am looking at this saw also
Yeah, the HF saw is a great started but not a real workhouse. This saw does what it’s supposed to and it does it well!! Let us know what you end up getting. We were also looking at the 12” Delta cruzer.

Try putting a little downward pressure on the saws handle and pulling the pin with your other hand? Hope that works. Thanks for watching!
Is yours a type 21 or 22. According to another youtube video, "th-cam.com/video/cAPV27vnDas/w-d-xo.html", the type 22 dropped a few features including the lock your are referring to. .
Thanks for the info and video link. It make sense now. Wish Dewalt would have been that forthcoming with the info. Regardless it’s still a great saw that gets almost daily use.
