  • I wanted to make a video showing some YJ progress for all of you interested in this build. In this video i install my new motor mounts, tear down my LS a bit, and strip all the brackets off the front and rear axles. Nothing very exciting but I'm plugging away bit by bit to get this thing back together. I plan on uploading more videos like this, so if you want to follow along and keep up with the build make sure to go subscribe. Thanks for watching!!

      Jon G. Much appreciated! I’m plugging away with this project during the quarantine period so I’ve been filming as much as I can. More YJ content is on the way hahah thanks for watching! -Cody

    Being tore down that much I wouldn’t went with coil Springs all the way around much better suspension system

      Yeah I ultimately didn’t plan for it to go this far 😂 but I already invested into the leaf springs components so I figured I’d see how she does. If I was to switch out the leafs I’d go straight to ORI Struts but one day in the future it’ll happen

    Looking good man. What are your plans for dealing with axle wrap? What type of springs are you using also? Loving this so far!

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adventure Every Mile thank you! I plan on doing an anti-wrap bar and I’ll be hopefully running OEM YJ springs but I’ll have to see once all the weight from everything is on the suspension. Appreciate you watching!!

    Awesome project! Subbed! You should go 1 tons vs. the JL gear.

      @altered_life  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unpopular Patriot thank you for the Sub and thank you for the kind words. I will probably swap to 1 tons in the future but while it’s still on leaf springs I’m going to see how these beefed up 44’s hold up. Since I already have the money invested into them it’ll allow me to wheel and enjoy the Jeep and build the tons at the same time haha. Thanks again for watching 👍🏻

      @@altered_life tons won't be needed those axles are beef for a light yj like you have !

      @@ericmuhlbeier8023 I’m hoping so haha, I really think they will do especially if I do the necessary strength upgrades. I’m really excited to put them to the test 🤙🏻

    Love the build. Looks great. I know you said stock yj springs upfront, but what springs in the rear? XJ?

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Kennedy for the rear I’m running the same OEM YJ springs. The kit is designed to work with XJ springs but I moved the frame side spring hanger back so I could keep YJ length springs. I’m hoping to do a full walk around here very soon to update all the details on the Jeep so far before I dig back into it. Thank you for watching!

    What are your plans for the front axle disconnect? Are you going to re-tube that side of the axle or is there a way to strengthen that area aside from simply trussing it?

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cordy Brassfield for the disconnect I plan on doing a one piece RCV shaft and a delete plate for where the electric motor is. As for strengthening it I’m hoping to weld all the cast areas to the tube, trussing everything, gusseting the C’s, and I plan on running full hydro steering so maybe an additional front skid to protect the ram which will also add front rigidity. I haven’t seen anyone else swap these axles yet so I’m in uncharted territory haha. Thanks for watching!

    Did you post the part number for these? I have a 94 that I want to swap a v8 in. Planning on doing the 5.3 like you. Haven't figured out what transmission I'm going with. I want to do the 8.8 rear to replace the Dana 35 before doing the v8.
    My 94 YJ is a 2.5 auto. I basically daily drive it, at least around town. It's horrible on the interstate so I drive the other car in that case lol. You know how slow the 2.5 is? Now imagine it also having a auto which means it has 3.37 gears instead of 4.10s
    I just found your videos today so not sure what all your projects is all about other then the 5.3
    I'm going to stay EFI with my 94 and it's 5.3 since I'm not a fan of carbs. Hopefully you do EFI so I can learn a thing or 2 about doing mine.
    I have a good millermatic mig welder to do this project.

      Justin Elliott Awesome! I’m glad you found the channel, thanks for watching and Subscribing. The part number for the motor mounts on Novak Conversions website are MMYJ-G3. My original plan for mine was to go with a 8.8 but then I ended up with the JL axles. I do plan on running EFI with my build but I’m not sure on what engine wiring harness I’ll be going with yet. I don’t really know what I’m doing but I’m trying to document my experience learning so others can learn as well. If you haven’t already check out my other videos on the YJ and my most recent walk around so you can catch up on the build. Thanks again for joining the fun!

      @@altered_life Thanks for the reply bud. I'm watching all of the videos you have. Just got to the 2nd one where you made the crossmember. I really like how the videos are like 30 mins long. It's like watching a show on TV but you are able to put more details on how you done them vs what's on TV.
      In fact I'm streaming them to my TV so I can watch them.
      Anyways keep up the good work bud. I appreciate them.

      Justin Elliott no problem man! I am really glad that you enjoy them. That makes me want to keep doing it knowing people actually like seeing what I put out. I try to keep them between 20-30 for that exact reason unless it’s something super detailed it will be longer or unless it’s something quick we need to show then it will be shorter. I stream a lot of TH-cam on my TV as well haha much better way to watch vs the tiny phone.

      Cajun YJ I 100% agree lol, I had two but they are cheaper and don’t work the best, I actually just picked up a six pack of different size and shapes the other day. Excited to give them a shot
