  • Making more progress on the YJ! This video was shot on one of my last weeks in quarantine and it was a perfect way to finish out my few weeks off of work. Getting the new tires and seeing the Jeep sit on its own weight is a massive motivator and makes me want to keep plugging away at this project. There is still so much to do and i have to strip it all the way back to the frame but being able to mock everything up is reassuring. Thank you all for watching and following along with this build. Going back to work is going to slow progress on the Jeep a little but i will keep checking things off the list as i get time. Hope you all are staying safe, see you next time!

      Thank you very much 🤙🏻. I’ve heard mixed reviews on them but everything I’ve heard on the black labels have been more positive. Did you use yours strictly offroad or more on road? For now the price range of the tires for 40’s and then being a softer compound it was hard to beat to get the rig up and running. Do the tires hit the leaf springs at full turn? I have waggy axles on my yj with 38's and they hit the springs at 3/4 turn. Trying to figure how narrow I can go and clear the springs with 40's. Thinking 67 to 68 wms.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At full turn the tires do kiss the springs just a bit. My full hydro ram has built in stops so I’m not sure if once I have that system installed if I’ll still touch or not. I may need to eventually go with a different wheel with a larger back spacing to push the tire just a bit further out.

      @@altered_life What is your backspacing on the wheels?

    • @altered_life

      @@altered_life I could only imagine how much stuff is available for them. We built d44s from jk Rubicon with g2 35 spline rears, ox lockers and gears. They held up no problem on long travel TJ build. I'm really digging your flat belly too, such a clean outcome. Once I finally figure out what the final build on my jeep will be I'll definitely go that route. Cheers!

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Disabled2Able that’s good to know! There are a bunch of JLs running 40’s with some upgrades and the axles are holding up well so I’m crossing my fingers that the lighter weight of the YJ will make it that much better. Everyone I talked to before I started this build recommended if I had the chance to go flat belly to do it so I’m excited to see how it works out when all said and done. I measured and I have 26”s of clearance to the bottom of the frame so I’m pretty happy with that. I say go for it if you can.

    Awesome jeep. Congratulations... I'ma recently retired Aircraft mechanic from AA. I have a 1991 Yj beater. With a 4.3 Chevy V6. Am 420 transmission .3.5 inch lift. 8.8 Ford rear. 35 in tires. The Dana 30 up frnot with a Spartan locker. I broke the first 2 piece passenger side axle shafts. I replaced them with a Cherokee one pieceshaft. I hated it. Because it feels always locked up.Until I broke it last week. Dana 30 is a joke. What front. Junkyard axle (not big bucks ) would you recommend ?. I have the 411 gears. Thank you.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Juan Barturen thank you very much! Your Jeep sounds like an awesome/solid build. I agree the Dana 30 is definitely not suitable if you plan to use and wheel the Jeep off road. I don’t have much experience with different axles as this is my first time doing a swap in any vehicle. Originally my plan was to do an 8.8 in the rear and find a Wagoneer Dana 44. I heard they are one of the best front axles you can get out of a junk yard without going 1 tons. If I’m not mistaken they have selectable hubs but I’m unsure what gears are in them so you may have to upgrade them to match the 8.8 and you could always upgrade to RCV shafts to really beef it up. I hope that helped a little and hopefully if anyone else on here knows more, they can chime in with more info. I appreciate the kind words and I appreciate you watching!

      Juan Barturen in my opinion I would be looking to replace the Dana 30 as a whole, but if you can’t find a viable replacement I would consider at least buying chrome Molly axle shafts to help prevent the breaking.
