I mean, when diagnosing you should check everything but it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to swap both. Clearly it wasn’t your PSU. And if it just fried the cable you could’ve bought aftermarket cables ( good ones as you can’t swap cables between PSUs, NEVER DO THAT ) and just swapped the GPU

  • @joeythefoxxo

It’s something with power delivery, whether it’s the card itself or the power supply, the PC is shutting down either to lack of enough power or it’s unable to send power.

The PC itself didn't look like it was shutting down but the GPU was shorted out. The repairman even pointed out how the rig was still on when the display went out. So it can be one of three things. A bad cable, a bad psu or worse a bad gpu.

There’s a butt load of comments going around saying “I had this exact issue and fixed it easily this way.” Even switching the gpu might’ve not been the issue. The thing is a game or a computer crash can occur for many different reasons and just because something solved it for you doesn’t mean it’ll always work, hence why the comments have mixed answers, there’s no right or wrong. The absolute best way to figure out the reason for a game or system crash is to go through the logs because of how generic of an issue it is. Otherwise move each part into a different system to figure out what causes the issue, and it could be more than one, you never know.

The simplest solution is to replace the thermal paste, i had the exact same issue and it was caused by overheating, whenever your system shuts off like that when loading up a game it's most caused by overheating from either the cpu or the gpu, in this case was the gpu

@SniffiestHalo1 did you even read my comment? If my graphics card was on fire and exploded do you think replacing the thermal compound will magically fix it? You save yourself time in the future

I'm quite pissed off because this dude went on to replace the entire bloody graphics card which is a stupidly expensive fix. He only tested the one game, he didn't check for onboard graphics first before jamming another frickin gpu. And it could've been simply that the GPU was so low spec that it couldn't run what looked like an graphics intense triple a game so OF COURSE running a beast gpu will work. So it's quite likely that the GPU wasn't broken, but simply wasn't powerful enough

A game crash like this can even happen on a 4090 or an 7900 XTX. My guess is that it was a software issue or slight incompatibility between the gpu drivers and the game, which would make sense why changing the gpu would work. I just don't like the fact that ONE game crashing made this fuckwit swap out the whole ass gpu. He swapped a 2017 vega 56 gpu with a frickin RTX card, which costs an arm and a leg.

Im not an expert but i've experienced fixing this similiar problem several times on my friends and customers pc, so these are the common issue that can cause this problem :
-the driver, not every newest drivers are stable, better to choose the stable one (WHQL), if the problem still occured try every older version of driver. If the current driver was the older one try the newer version until newest one.
-the PSU, it might be the main problem, try to change to other healthy psu, if it works so the psu is the main problem and u need to replace it with the proper one that can supply your entire pc system
-the GPU setting, it might has been tweaked (OC/undervolt/underclock) and the bad setting can cause the GPU not have enough or the proper power to run games that need high clock. Even the integrated GPU or we can calles it APU can also have this problem, just reset it by default and try reinstall the same version of driver or the current stable version.
-RAM, if all of that i've said above are not fixing the probem, so it might be the RAM, maybe the pin on ram modules or the slot is dirty and need to be cleaned by rubber or alcohol. Or similiar with GPU, it might have been tweaked (OCed) and the setting value is not right and cause the power supplying not working properly.
Those are just the common issues, if all of those statement not working at all, so it might be any other hardware component, and u need to troubleshoot it one by one and the worst case is your GPU was broken.

Didn’t have to go that far since the card displayed but not in game. Change the games ini to a safe video mode, it’ll work. More than likely the video card has compatibility caused by what type 3d rendering it has.
A perfect example for ya which I got plenty. When diablo 3 demo and beta came out it played fine on my system. Full version didn’t, caused same problem which a lot on the q&a boards had, because blizzard made the full version fairly video card specific. All I did was edit the ini to use the game driver from my demo folder and tada worked perfect. Done this for 7days, cods, halos ect.

In this case, you’re wrong. They were providing a service to the customer. Not everyone knows the technical know how to troubleshoot. Being able to actually fix a faulty gpu is definitely out the scope of a pc builder, because if it were so simple to fix there would be no need for warranty. Also not every pc owner has extra parts lying around they can use to help troubleshoot, in which this case, he swapped ram and a gpu. Which for most people a gpu isn’t something they would necessarily have unless they were a pc enthusiast, and if they were a pc enthusiast they more then likely wouldn’t have bought a pc from someone who makes pc.

With what I think I know and that behavior I would replace the PSU first - to a bigger one.
I don't exactly know anymore from the top of my head, but I think AMD had massive spike issues on some cards and some PSU straight up shut off with even the slightest bit of power draw, because of the OCP.

    • @dra6o0n

  • @xanderveal

Check the power draw of the original gpu as I bet it’s higher than the one of the second gpu. So when you start a game the power draw spikes and is too much for the psu so it shuts off

    • @dra6o0n
      @dra6o0n ปีที่แล้ว

Loading screens hide the power ramping up and rendering in the background. It's likely trying to work and the power spiked and shut the pc down.
This is why for a 150 watt GPU you aim for 600 watt capacity , and 350 watt GPU you aim for 850 watt capacity
