IU shared a letter that Tang Wei wrote to her after filming talking about her experience, and everything mentioned in the letter makes it very blatant that the relationship in the MV is about a mother and daughter (Tang Wei mentions key memories of her childhood and her relationship with her own mother, for instance). But I will say that the story in the MV is more than just mother-daughter, since there are two sides to the story and that part is only from Tang Wei's POV. IU's POV in the second verse is about a 'friendship'. And in that case, a GL angle is very plausible. Theory: In the PAST, She placed those she loved in there (so they can be with her forever) - her mother and her friend. In the PRESENT, she spots IU, who looks very much like her mother, when she was younger. Before seeing IU, she had early spotted someone who looked like her friend, whom she (assumed that she knocked out) placed in the boot. She would have place IU in the boot too except IU boldly approached her first. It can be assumed the woman in the boot will be placed down there too. But IU will be her mother figure in the present and most probably live together, with IU keeping her secret...Shh A dark theme indeed. Love the story line. Want a darker theme: Consider she has been driving around looking out for people that resembles her mother and her friend. If this isn't her first drive, then how many people has she "collected" in there? IU delivers another MV movie!❤ IU has really gone all out for her fans: 4 MVs from 5 songs - 1 Fantasy, 1 Fun, 1 Dark and 1 Apocalyptic. Uniquely IU indeed. Respect much! .👍🏻❤👏👏
if we linked it to iu's personal story, how she raised by granma in poor condition at early age bc financial issue i assume at that time how she feels abandoned, feel rage & hatred as portrayed by tangwei but in the end she acknowledge her mom did try her best. At the end of the mv we return to the past of IU's mother and grandmother, since the relationships of mothers and daughters are a historically repeated loop.
indicated at their resemblance, not only physically but also mental state. how the mother saw the daughter and could tell she was feeling exactly like she were feeling towards her mother, the intense emotion that full of various emotions. its a loop

Tang wei :playing as the daughter shows how we can carry painful words/experiences caused by our moms until we're older. Later on in life,esp when we became mothers ourselves, realizing that they only did or said those just out of love .
#IU"Shh..." is about relationships between women, between mothers and daughters. Women who remain enigmas. A mother was also once a daughter. A cycle that continues around the world. Her name is "Shh.." since we can replace it with any woman's name. "Shh..." is poetry ❤️
In Tang Wei's letter to IU, it was said that through the making of this music video and the line from the song, she wondered if her eyes were really like her mother's and she really wanted to check it out. She also said that she thought about how she imagined her mom in her younger years. And she realized that this image is not clear, because she was not part of her life then and she only knows it from her father's words and photos. On the set she imagined that she met her in her younger years and suddenly realized that her mother was just like her - young, beautiful and shining on stage. I think both the song and the video express that the relationship between mom and daughter is a special bond. Something beyond friendship and beyond love. Something special. One thing continues the other. When you're a kid you're sometimes unable to understand why mom acts a certain way. You know and see mom from one side. But when you grow up, you understand her better. Because you start to see the world from her perspective. And this story repeats itself again only with another child and another mom. A amazing song and music film on the theme of the connection of women in the family and their sometimes difficult relationships on the way to understanding each other.
The song and the MV are connected with IU's personal story about her relationship with her mother. There was a time when IU held resentment toward her mother because of a misunderstanding

I think the shop sign is the clue that its an ongoing loop. Anything hidden is a memory/subconscious but always leaves a clue (dress tail caught outside trap door and car boot)
S is IU as the mother of Tang Wei (H).
H is Tang wei as the daughter who has hidden memories of the mother but finds that IU (S) looks like the mum.
Next scene, H looks like the friend ( another H because they look alike) of IU (S) who has hidden memories of her friend.
So SHH.. is the song title because on going loop as seen from the end when cycle starts again with ladies in blue.
IU had 4 generations of good korean singers into the MV. I think it rep that one generation make the way for the generation that comes, like mother/women make the way for daughters/women and they are all connected in a loop, generation after generation.
I think at first it was about the very first relationship we have, with mothers but later lyrics change because it could also be about friendships and love. IU's definition of Love is always very wide. I think she is too deep a thinker to see one perspective only.
Just sharing my thots. Love an IU MV, reads like a good detective story.

Reminiscent of the central theme of the EEAAO, a movie that IU had praised before, and I'm sure she at least partly got the inspiration from.

Being a parents/guardian is not easy. We care, love and worry about our children so much. We want to know everything about them but also have limitations.
My understanding to the MV.
The end part of the mv there are two female characters which is unknown to me but I believe that they are actually the main character in the story and Tang Wei and IU are only representation of characters.
The beginning of the MV Tang Wei (represent's the mother) is sitting on the driver seat waiting for her daughter ( while waiting she is having a self reflection time). As a mother she is thinking of many things about her child it could be about future and worries since she cannot be on her side all the time).
Then she saw her daughter (IU) standing on the street maybe also waiting for her to pick her up. As she (IU) starts walking towards the car Tang Wei looking at her daughter could possibly having an illusion of her own mother.
Maybe in her mind Tang Wei is worrying to much and she is asking herself does her mother went through the same thing as she is having right now in the stage of motherhood?
Then later on she went back to the old house to recall the beautiful memories she had back then with her mom.
(I believe the door/opening on the floor represent the memories and secrets that they share together when was just a little girl)
The nearest end of the MV we could see IU (she is now in representation of the mother) sitting in the driver seat waiting for her daughter Tang Wei. It could be Tang Wei's flashback memory when she was at the same age as her daughter. Where her mother pick her up from night out or party.
😅: I cry while watching the MV. Sometimes its hard to understand our mother but when we became a mother we finally understand why they act the way they did. Sometimes they even wanted to help in making decisions because they are afraid that we might repeat the same mistakes they had when they are at our age.

It was confusing to watch the MV for the first time but quickly I became overcome by the film noir atmosphere and IU's captivating voice. This MV/song requires repeated experiencing and each time it become more engrossing. Without a doubt this is my favorite track of this IU's comeback. Your analysis of the complication in a mother/daughter relationship is so bewitching, and touching. Now it makes me re-examine my own relationship with my mother.

i was also so confused when i first watched the mv so i waited for theories in twt. then i think there's a consensus about it being mother-daughter conflict(?) / relationship. and then i saw someone use that tiktok "as a woman i have so much empathy for my mother, but as a daughter i have so much anger"

안녕하세요!! I said "I'm feeling some sapphic tension here." Sapphic means "attraction or relationships between women." The word comes from the Greek poet Sappho, who wrote poems about her love for women. But after watching the whole music video I think there was no sapphic tension between the characters 🤣 I hope this helps!

I thought this was another one of IU's 'girl love' songs like 'Secret' and 'Peach'. Ignore the MV. In the lyrics IU is trying to reconcile her romantic attachment to another woman. Its not about (F)ing, its not about (L)esbianism, its something else she tells herself. In the end, though, she reconciles herself to the truth of the past relationship. The relationship 'everyone knows but nobody knows', she says, The word 'mobius strip' in the mv brings the song back to Eight, which makes the subject Sulli.
Based on IU conversation wth suga for her upcoming songs it wouldnt be too personal too deep like previous albums (her diary) but more general. It seems many still trying to relate it to her friends who suicidal.. Just follow what being told its generations of mother daughter relationship....its nothing about rainbow. Personally i think IU is someone who her friends can rely on since she have strong character and own way of thinking...I noted this from remarks made by her old friends in IU's palette whom said she never change and have tht warm feeling to be around. Her friend even cry talking about it since they are close as 2nd generation idol..that say a lot bout her as reliable friend. Bff doesnt means rainbow i m frustrated to see the recent way of thinking...God give us relationship guidance for a purpose. ..my view
